Just a few comments/corrections. The 555 Transaxle is not a limited slip, unless someone slipped a Quife unit in there, which is unlikely. Also, in '89, the Fox Body Mustang had 225hp, the CSX had 175. It felt very quick because it is a lighter vehicle. The hood, it's not aftermarket, it's a stock Shadow turbo hood, the stock '89 CSX hood was flat. They are a blast to drive. I have a Lebaron GTC/VNT, of which 123 coupes were made and 132 convertibles. If I was to nit pick, they made 498 CSX-VNTs for 89, and took 2 offline to prototype the 1990 CSX which never materialized. It's a nice looking car too, good luck with the sale!
Thanks Bruce! We appreciate the feedback.
You know your Shelby’s!
And if you were really trying extra hard to nitpick, 2:18 it’s not Ferrari vs. Ford, it’s Ford vs. Ferrari.
Good stuff. They also offered the VNT in the non-Shelby Shadows. My Father ordered a Competition Package Shadow for Direct Connection as a department car in 1990. Neat car and rare as hen's teeth.
InstaBlaster...
My friend had an ‘89 CSX VNT (#007) back in the day. We had some FUN in that car!!! We would race folks (most people thought it was just a Dodge Shadow ES), and when we beat them they’d flag us down to see what was under the hood....good times in the early 90’s!!!
Shelby didn't move to Mopar to just sell cars. His old long time friend Lee Iacocca (you may have heard of him) moved from Ford to Chrylser and needed some help. Shelby helped immediately to help revive the sluggish company.
I know a lot about late 80 early 90 sleepers and I never knew about this one. Thanks hoss.
There are 3 models of this car. 1987 CSX Black with blue pinstripes, 1988 CSX-T white with blue pinstripes, and this 1989 CSX-VNT. The 87 and 89 were sold to the public the 88 was a Thrifty rental car. I've owned one of each.
Just to be clear; that's not a 1989 Dodge Shadow. It's a 1989 Shelby CSX VNT. While the Dodge Shadow was the basis for the vehicle, the fact that it was modified by Shelby at their facility and rebranded by them means that it's an actual Shelby manufactured vehicle, similar to the early GT350 and GT500 cars. The later GT350 and GT500 cars made by Ford would be akin to the thousands of "Dodge Shelby" cars like the Charger Shelby and Daytona C/S and even the GLH cars...but not the GLHS cars. Those were actually Shelby-produced cars, too.
The Shelby-produced vehicles during the Dodge era were the 2 and 4-door GLHS, '87 CSX, '88 CSX-T, '89 CSX VNT, Shelby Dakota, Shelby Lancer.
It's too bad the Cali DMV will not issue the proper "Shelby" on the titles at transfer time. I tried this for my '87 GLHS and '89 CSX. The DMV inspectors I encountered would not look things up to see that "Shelby Automobiles" was indeed a registered manufacturer in the late 80's.
@@warrentom6537 When I bought mine, I brought in the Certificate of Origin and they tried to register it (and title it) as a Dodge Shadow because that's what the VIN came up as. It took quite a bit of work (and someone in the IT department to bypass the system that propagated the fields based on the VIN) but I was able to secure a title that had the manufacturer as Shelby and he model as CSX. I doubt subsequent owners were as concerned as I was.
On a good note, my insurance company just saw it as a Dodge Shadow which made insurance a bargain!!
I miss my 89 csx. Blast to drive. If you left foot brake and send it into a corner you could actually power slide this thing smoothly (in the rain). The suspension was bar none the best I've ever felt. The only gripe I have of this car is that the stick linkage is a braided steel that isn't very good. Mine was tight on the 89 but I had an 87 as well and had the cable snap in 4th gear and didnt notice until I tried to pull away from a red light and also the power steering is a little too powerful. I'm keeping my eyes on these as I want one again. Beautiful piece of history that needs to be remembered but not until i get one again so people dont hog them ;). Also I cant tell you how many times I had people ask me what kind of mustang it was at gas stations lmao one guy actually thought it was a fox body that had been rear ended hahaha 95% of people dont even know these exist only true enthusiasts know and drink it in with their eyes like a fine boxed wine. Cheers!
One year later and your mustache joke still gets me 😂
Always liked the Boost Gauge in my
1988 Shadow ES .
The Reagan Hat is cool .
I remember these on the showroom and wanting it so bad!! Dodge made their own version that was pretty sad but this CSX looked so fun!!
It definitely didn't fail to impress us!
I regret to this day and probably will for the rest of my life, trading mine. I had a 89 Shelby CSX and it was mint. I was able to buy it off of a neighbor of mine who I would help wrench at his shop and the car had less than 1,500 miles. I was a Sophomore in HS when I first owned it and damn was it fun. I held onto it until about 2010 when I needed some room in my garage/home shop and I hated to part with it, but I did. I sold it to another young kid like I was and he received a hell of a deal from me. At the time I sold the car to him, it still only had a little over 27,000 miles. The car was still mint with everything original and I kept track on him as he knew I would to make sure he was keeping up with it. After he went to college, he sold it to a car collector somewhere in NE and it has been put into storage and is still suppose to be all original with less than 50,000 miles. Someday I hope to possibly find the same #'d car from my glory days and repurchase it. I would love to have this car back. The only thing that I always wish was different was the front wheel drive, but she sure was a fun car to have.
I had the 4 cylinder model back in 95. It was my first car and it was slow as hell.
Lol I kno
You didn't have a csx, you had a shadow
I'd love to have one of these, along with a Spirit R/T. They are sleepers and rare.
Awesome car. I work not far from where you are. Other side of Griffin on Ravenswood.
I have a 88 shelby csxt. Thrifty rental car. Love it
It's a beautiful car, but as you mentioned, the hood was replaced, the side body moldings are missing, but what is also missing are all the labels around the car. These cars had gold vinyl insignias, on the front of the hood, there should be a small CSX logo, there should be a SHELBY logo on the top of the windshield, on both sides there should be a large CSX logo, and on the hatch, on the left there should be a SHELBY and on the right should be a CSX logo.
The wheels aren't actually plastic, they are fiberglass. They are lighter then aluminum but can be damaged if not treated right. They are very hard to come by now so it's great to see a complete set in good condition.
Shelby wanted this car to be FAST so it was offered with no comfort options. The only comfort item was A/C which was standard. No cruise, power widows, etc, were offered. There were only two options, the Recaro seats (which this car has) and larger tires.
For purists, these cars were actually not called Dodge Shadows. They were bought and modified by Shelby Automobiles in Whittier California. The original certificate of origin was from Shelby Automobiles so if the car was titled correctly, it should be titled as a Shelby CSX (Shelby being the manufacturer and CSX being the model) but many DMVs just go by the VIN so I know for me, it was a battle to get my title right and it was only possible because I bought the car new and had the original certificate of origin. Sadly, most of these are just titled as a Dodge Shadow.
You will also notice that Shelby actually removed as much "Dodge" badging as they possibly could. The hood original hood was actually a Plymouth hood because Dodge hoods had holes drilled for the pentastar logo. He also removed all the other dodge logos when possible. The only places that are easily visible with any indication this was a Dodge are the radio, the glass, and the key.
Good luck with this. Someone is going to get a fun car!
Sticker delete was an option. The stickers are yours to put on but they get damaged and lost with time. My insurance company insures an SRT4 as a Neon sport.
If I had this car I would have removed them just because that car is a little sleeper
Very Nice car!!!! I have a Dodge shadow es turbo 89 and a Chrysler shadow GTS 89 . I love old mopar turbo cars
Daniel LopezNava
I had a Dodge Shadow ES 1988 .
Great looking car for it’s time but a what a piece of shit mechanically. Transmission went up at 3000 miles. Had to rebuild the motor at 20,000 miles. I took good care of the car using the proper turbo oil. 1980’s cars were poor quality.
Love the way they look
Sweet Car! Just wanted to correct you on a couple things and mention a couple more. 1st. None of the old school Turbo Dodge cars came with Limited Slip. 2. That's a Chrysler 2.2L Turbo IV, they had 174hp and 205 torque from the factory obviously different from the 89 Mustang GT. I also noticed your vacuum was only at -15. It should be around -20 or better in a low mileage car. You may have a vacuum leak or timing issue. Some of the CSX's had 225/50 tires on them, which hooked up and handled a lot better than the 195/60's.
The hood was on the two previous models. The 1987 csx, and the 1988 csx-t which was a 87 csx built only for Thrifty and not to the market. The 87 only came in black with blue pinstripes and the 88 came only in white with blue pinstripes other than that and a thrifty plaque they are identical. I've owned all three the 89 by far was the coolest car I've ever owned/drivin and I've driven 1000s of cars
The black with gold trim door/side mouldings are gone. The windshield is also missing the Shelby banner at the top portion of the glass.
I miss mine. Exact same car. Don't know the number I had. If I could find this car in it's condition similar to this is buy it instantly. This was my first car in high school
looks like a really nice unit though. way cool
My first car was a dodge shadow es 2.2L 3 speed auto. I tried to make it look like a csx, but it had terrible brakes (overheated super easy) slow as molasses and the trans eugh. I wanted a duster or a csx
How about a Dodge Conquest?
Marko Polo
That was a cool 😎 car back in the 1980’s .
More reliable than the Dodge shadow because the engines were Mitsubishi.
You can look online and there still some available. Dodge shadows are few and far between.
The hood is not an aftermarket, is original.
very rare cars there was a white car with shelby next to the car looks so good
I had a Plymouth sundance turbo in HS loved that car..this is a P series not K series
Same. I miss that car... Had great turbo whine when the boost kicked in and a Getrag 5spd.
Pretty sure the hood is from a later model year Dodge Shadow/Plymouth Sundance Duster. (My first car was a ‘92 Duster V6 and it had that same hood.)
Same. Time flies
I owned a 1988 Dodge Daytona Shelby z electric blue with the and engine 174hp. It had a turbo lag But it was quick.
I miss mine. I had one in highschool
I want this to be my first car so bad!
My dad has one that he used to race. How do you find what car it was?
Bull diesel has been using vnt turbo technology for a long time
Which state are you located? Looks beautiful!
It's not a K body..it's a modified L..called the P body. It's not a K car..it shares nothing but drivetrain..nothing K bolts up
False. Its modified k platform. P,J,K,H,A,G bodies all interchangeable. Ls (Omnis and chargers) are the different ones.
Its almost the identical length of the K car, these replaced the L-body but its very similar to a K car under the skin.
Shadow CSX and CSX Train!
You would think that with all the elbow grease that went into cleaning and detailing this car which presents very nice someone would have thought to put a couple of new headlights in it.Also the inside hood insulation blanket is missing.Nice car though but the faded yellow headlights suck.
I know this is old, and pre pandemic BUT... What did this end up going for back in 2019?
I like the Dodge Omni GLH.
Hermoso auto
Im sure that will be trouble free😬
My first car was a red 93
I have a 1992 Plymouth sundance duster 3.0 v6
These are Not the original tires correct ?
U still have this?
How much ill buy it and build a huge boost motor
Plastic rims? Impressive.
Neato !
Rare stuff is COOL !
that grill doesnt look factory. looks like some ebay special
I owned one of these car before wow.have to say shit it frigging fast wish i have never sold it
There not a K car actually its a P body car there shorter wheelbase but made to appear larger than a K car
Trans is not limited slip
I had #360 and She kicked ass and ate Mustangs for Breakfast. Peace all.
Purist: I can't believe you changed the oil. Your value just dropped.
Collector dodge shadow, LOL
That is not the correct hood for an 89 CSX
omni glh is og
0-60 mph in 7.4 seconds is NOT quick
175 HP
My dodge daytona turbo z in 1986 was quicker with only 146 HP
Used the Shelby name to rip people off...thats all
How old is this video? Whats with the hat?
The L body is the Omni chassis..came from Europe in 78. The K was our homegrown crap. The P was a better version of the L...do research first..please
All American cars are crap.
