Well said for the reason of wine. To share, to drink and to enjoy. An expression of art, experienced in a moment of time.. And as always:Enjoy the sunshine held together by water. And may 2025 bring happiness and joy to all.🍷
My goals that I can think of are just two. Finding bottles I like for a great price without having to wait two years to get them. The second is to quit procrastinating and finally picking up a bottle of Chateau La Tour so I have at least one of all five first growths. I don’t have a big collection but a few more never hurt just in case because you never know.
@ I will get started after the holidays. I’ll also make sure my iPad doesn’t autocorrect Latour. Or maybe I just forgot how to spell. Happy holidays to you.
I laughed at the “I know that’s not going to happen” re: setting a wine budget. Researching and finding/buying wine is as satisfying to me as the rest of the wine experience. It’s so tough to set a limit on that. What is real for us is we have about 100 bottles with of space left in our locker. Something’s gotta give!
Thank you! Yes it is so difficult to cap spending. You never know when a golden opportunity will present itself! Space is definitely my biggest issue. I’m about 50 over!
In 2025, I'd like to get out of my Italian comfort zone and drink more red and white wines from Chile, Argentina, and Portugal. I'm overdue! Happy Holidays!
Yep, reducing the overall number is a priority for me. For those of us in the UK who can store in bond and avoid paying alcohol duty and sales taxes until withdrawn for drinking that's all great. And then you ge your annual storage bill. This year, ouch.
Excellent goals Mr, Jackson. Some of my goals are similar to yours. I need to drink down my collection to make room for Bordeaux futures purchased. I hope to add a few bucket list wines to my collection. A different goal that I have would be to attempt to standardize and focus on the wines and wine regions that I like. Diversification is a noble goal, but the space available is limited. i also hope to attend more wine tastings and I hope to visit a wine region this year.
That all sounds terrific! Thank you for sharing your goals! Hopefully you will be able to visit a wine region! It is always such a rewarding experience. Happy holidays!
@@LewGoldman Thank you! I’d like to do one but my collection is currently spread out among 5-6 solutions, none of which are very photogenic at the moment.
I think that makes you relatable… The guy from “Wine, Money & Song” had sorta the same thing on his cellar tour but was still fantastic… Anyways, great job, love the content
Happy to have not bought a large quantity of wine since July. I've got my collection down to 258 and aim to reduce it further over 2024 and 2025. I think around 150-200 wines at any given time is all I need. I'm also planning on going for underrated collectable wines and increasing the average price per bottle in my cellar from its current $20.38 as I get rid of cheap wine and if I buy I'll buy higher quality and varied wines.
If you plan on exploring South Africa anytime soon Stellenbosch and Constantia are two incredible regions. Beautiful landscapes, incredible food, and simply amazing wines for a bargain!
Sounds like a great plan for 2025! In addition to trading or donating your overweight section of wines, you could include them in a prize drawing/contest for your devoted Subscribers! ;-)
While the entire concept of goals may or may not be a factor when opening “that bottle” with friends and certainly could seem more truly American in its teleological, if not puritanical, character than the provenience of one’s wine collection, it certainly makes sense in the context of your ongoing systematic quest to become a more knowledgable consumer, as well as internet wine personality/authority. Your focussed thirst for experience and your excellent level of analysis make your videos very enjoyable. My ongoing goal has been to become much more confident in anticipating good/interesting wine and food pairings as most of the time over here it is about dinners rather than private wine tastings. If you felt competent to speak to that subject, your opinion would be of great interest, especially given that you are clearly a regular consumer of premier wines. In any case, happy holidays and many thanks already for your upcoming videos.
Thanks very much! Appreciate the kind words and the inquiry. My personal approach is to use cuisine to elevate lower or more common wines. When we taste the very special wines we tend to do so without food so we can focus on the wines.
@ thank you for taking the time to reply. I see that you focus really on the pure experience of a great wine, which certainly is legitimate, if not superior for tasting. I remember drinking a 2014 Secret de Sabon in May with steamed artichokes with a home made aioli and it being complete magic. Great wine and food pairings in outstanding restaurants have always been a thrill to me. They make for so to say transcendental experiences, especially with the right company.
@ Thank you! Definitely agree with you. I do enjoy that as well but in the US markups and wine at restaurants is so expensive that I rarely get truly special wines there. I do that more often when traveling.
One goal is paramount to me every year…..try a wine made from a variety I have never had before. So many varieties out, vinifera and hybrid alike. One really cheats themselves of possibly having the best wine they’ve ever had, simply because they’ve never heard of it before?!
That is an excellent goal! Pretty sure I do that every year even without trying as I definitely agree with you! I try to taste new wines and varieties whenever possible!
@ We’ll come to the Midwest sometime and try our hybrid wines……you just might be pleasantly surprised. I can personally attest we make some pretty good wines……and yes, we make more than sweet, soda pop wines! 😂
My goal is also to expand in regions I'm light on. More California, more Burgundy, more Bordeaux and more German wines. I'll only buy Guigal La Las if I can find them, no more Rhône this year.
@@FridayFishFacts Great question! Definitely a region I hope to visit as I’m a big fan of Syrah. It is not one in the works yet, but I’m only booked thru February for wine trips.
I love the fact that people are waking up and realizing aging wines so they taste like a syrup is not relevant anymore, for many reason but mostly because culture that drinks tea with milk is not dominating the wine ideas😅
My wine goal for 2025 will be to watch every video released on your channel!
Excellent goal! Truly appreciate it! Thank you! Happy holidays!
