One day, it suddenly hit me: This song was MADE for Maleficent. When you consider her harsh childhood from the novel, "Mistress of all Evil", her being betrayed by love in the live action remake, and her death at the hands of Prince Phillip in the original film, Maleficent's hate, sorrow, and despair for the world that ridiculed her makes sense. The world made the fairy a monster, why should she apologize for behaving for what they saw, and turned her into? I could easily see the dark fairy singing this to Aurora before she pricks her finger, and Philip, caged at her command. The most powerful and cruel curse of all wasn't her deathly sleep, it was love. It gave her hope, light, joy, and ripped it all away. Now she sees the world in faded light.
@ It actually fits her and Maleficent well. Both had so much color in their lives, love failed them, and all that life and color faded. Tempest and Maleficent’s origins, their stories of how they fell, aren’t too dissimilar actually. Even to the point of getting scarred by those they trusted and feeling betrayed.
