- Hunting $1 Dollar Coins - "Gold Dollars" and Susan B Anthony Dollars
I've been asked to do some dollar coin hunts, so I figured... why not? I picked up an unopened and unsearched $1,000 box of the small "gold" dollar coins hoping to find some errors, some NIFCs, some proof coins, or maybe even something cool... I'll also be filling out some books with the best finds from today's hunt. Let's see how we do!
A few key Dollar Coins to look for:

Hey Rob is there any chance to get large dollar coin boxes?
hi rob
It’s funny, I was just wondering this morning when rob would make another dollar hunt. Lol, thanks for reading my mind rob.
I hunt a box of dollars per month. My bank orders a box each month for me.Been very fortunate in finding many of the presidential NIFCs as well as a few innovations.Hope you continue to search dollars.
Right on Rob! Just last week a friend of mine said she had some old gold coins her grandfather gave her that she wanted to sell. I said I was interested and to send me pics. It was modern presidential dollars- 😵💫
Glad to see a dollar hunt 🔥
Really enjoyed the hunt! Thanks and I love you mats!
Glad you enjoyed and thank you for purchasing the mats!
Hey Rob we like hearing you talk, otherwise we wouldn't be here😅
Good stuff, Rob
Interesting hunt, Rob! Keep up the good work!
I've only gone through maybe $125 or $150 of dollars total, but I've found a 2016-D Reagan, 2002-P Sacagawea, 2015-D Mohawk Ironworkers, and 2018-P New York Innovation Dollar for NIFCs. They're fun to hunt, though. Filled out most of the non-NIFCs for SBA, Sacagawea, and the Presidents. Surprisingly haven't found any 1999 SBAs though.
Love it
Cool seeing you share a different denomination box hunt with us brother, thanks Rob 👍
Thanks for the video!
Interesting stuff... thanks Rob!
Love me a good dollar hunt!
great hunt!
Awesome video good dollar coin hunt thanks for sharing Rob
Super cool. Instant collection. 🏁
I loved this video
Nice "change of pace" hunt❗️👍
Awesome brother. !!! Dollars !! Good luck guys.
What an epic and "golden" hunt
That helped me understand these coins better. Thank you!
Very welcome!
Nice hunt rob hope you have a wonderful holiday thank you for sharing 👍👍❤️
Very nice video.
I love hunting $1 coins. This year (2023), I've found a lot of NIFCs lately. I'm missing Lyndon B. Johnson. Nonetheless, good finds.
Pretty crazy no wounded eagles but still an enjoyable hunt and video thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼
Interesting hunt Rob. Enjoyed the viewing... Happy Hunting, Stephen
You are loved ❤️
Nice switch up. I enjoy your videos.
I appreciate that!
I'd figure I'd let you in on this, but "inverted edge" Presidential dollars are not errors.
The edge lettering on the coins is applied before the dies are stamped, so the lettering can face either way depending on the position of the coin. Ideally half of the coins would have a normal edge and the other half a so-called "inverted edge". This is a normal part of the production of these coins and does not carry any additional value, unlike missing or doubled edge lettering, which are actual errors in the production of the coins.
There is a variety of the John Adams dollar that is sometimes called "inverted edge lettering", but it really has the edge lettering stamped twice, one normal and one inverted.
I know - it's why I didn't keep tabs on them even though I saw a good 70-30 mix at least. Some collectors do collect both types though.
love the vids! Always learn something from ya Rob!
Woo hoo!! 🎉🎉
I also asked Rob to have a small dollar hunt. Thanks for this video
I live in canada, and while receiving change from a purchase. I ended up finding a 2007 d James Madison coin! It's really cool to find it in all of my loonies 😂
Hi, Rob
Sacagawea dollar is one of the most underrated coin. Too bad the dollar coin never caught on like other countries. I usually get a roll now and then.
I've been waiting so long for this video. Love Dollar Coins!
Did find one American Innovations late last year or early this year, the Max Baer one with Pong on it.
Great video
what did i win
This was a fun hunt.
WOO HOO!!!!! A dollar coin hunt. Yes, I was one of the folks asking for this for a while. Too bad they aren't rolling Ike's and circulating them as well......
I found 5 Ike’s at my local bank a couple of days ago. I bought 20 lose coins and surprisingly there were the Ike’s.
Pretty early today, hope some good finds show up!
The dollar hunt was fun although not that productive I still like the video and hope you do more dollar hunts
Awsome
I just snagged a 1960 silver Rosie from my favorite Coinstar honey hole today.
Nice..I found a way to "hack" the machine so I can score rejection coins all day
I also want to mention, the most likely reason you did not find any 1981 Susan B. Anthony dollars is because that year, they were NIFCs and sold only in mint sets (just like the 1970 and 1987 halves were!)
Also, the 2002 through 2008 Sacagawea dollars are NIFCs (of the type sold in bags)
I know, but figured I'd might spy one in the box.
My first RFT $ hunt…cool!
First time to see you hunt dollar😂
not my favorite but happy to see another RFT hunt
Thanks!
Awesome Dollar hunt Rob😊
Thank you!!!!
That was an interesting hunt. I haven't hunted any dollar coins yet - but my bank is always asking me if I want to buy a box. Maybe I need to give it a try. Another great video!
Go for it!
Hey Rob, that roll of $1 coins you're holding at 4:08 only has 24 coins in it!
Yep, short on several rolls but over on others.
"No 1981's surprisingly" - This makes sense; as the 1981 Susan B. Anthony dollars were only issued in mint sets and not issued for regular circulation. These are NIFC.
True but I had other NIFCs in the box so figured I’d see one.
I almost never see any nowadays! I used to get them on purpose but now I don’t bother.
Dollar coins...... how odd....... ✌️
Those plated Susan B's should be in holders
Sorry you didn’t get any great finds, Rob. There was only one coin in the coin star reject bin tonight……. But it was a 1954P silver dime!!!!!!!!!
And tonight there was a whole pile of coins in the Coinstar but none of them were any good.
Banks where I am never carry the small dollar coins. I would have to order a box to come so I can pick it up.
wow
Yesterday, I got a 1928 wheat penny
The first ten roll wrap up made me think of Scrooge McDuck with all the golden coins stacked up! 😂
Hi
I hunt dollar coins from the train ticket machines and soda machine. The train ticket machines I get a single fair for $2.60 and pay with a twenty. I’ve gotten so far several NIFC Presidential, Native American and Innovation dollars. Since these NIFCs are circulated, their condition is some times questionable to keep or not.
Looks like small dollers are a tuff hunt. Almost as bad as quarters.
I have some Eisenhower dollars - what should know about them? Which ones are silver, what other things? Appreciate it.
These clads currently have a base metals value of $0.07…!!
Our money is trash.
👍
What is the best book to buy for the presidential dollar coin collection?
Looks like Rob got robbed while he was trying to find some treasure. But it was a nice box.
I really enjoyed this hunt rob you need to do more of these rob
I think there was a George HW Bush Presidential Dollar that came out in 2020
I just love looking for something old money I have a big jar of dollars coins! Could you please let me know where to check out??these money?? I would like to find out more about this project !! Thanks
Was there $1,000 in actual coinage in it or were you over or short because of the size of the rolls?
I had 5 over rolls and 5 under rolls, surprisingly even for the box.
Rob--I have enjoyed watching all of your box hunts, regardless of the denomination. As you most likely know, on the $1 edge-lettered coins there are 2 varieties of each of the P & D mints. They are collected as A & B types, based on the position of the lettering in relation to the obverse heads up. One is right-reading on the edge with the obverse up, and the other is up-side down type in relation to the obverse being heads up. Myself and many other collectors seek these varieties, in addition to the "No type edge-lettering" error, which you mentioned.
As an added suggestion, I am sure I am not alone in wondering this, so how about stating at the end of the video, just how many coins of each box you had to replace to make it a full box again, or stating the amount that it cost for you to keep the coins that you decided to save? Just saying.
I hear you. And I'd say on average, there was a mix of 70-30 for the different lettering positioning. I just didn't care to keep the different ones for now. That being said, a good reminder for sure. I will try to keep track of what I had to "add" back to the boxes.
@@RobFindsTreasure Yeah, I figured you knew, but it seems like a lot of collectors consider this nit-picking, but somewhere down the road, some of the positions may be determined to be rare and worthwhile. Just saying.
The dollars all look like tokens to me
Sweet
Any good coins worth hunting for in those?
I've got 2 $1 coins no mint mark 1865. Any thoughts?
Hey Rob, the SBA has a special spot for me bc of her original year of 1979, best year ever! Yes Rob that's when I was born. Now you know. Lol. It's a shame these never took off, actually a very good design. Loved seeing all the "gold", I was like 'yeah Rob moving on up!' Keep it up brother!
Why do you weigh the copper in your penny hunt?
I wonder if boxes of Ike dollars are available? I wonder if silver might be lurking in them??
Everything I've heard is Ike dollars are no longer available anywhere except through the numismatic community. The banks stopped giving them out years ago and probably returned all of them to the Treasury Dept.
I wish. I have tried to order them for years.
Can you tell me the name of makers of that folder?
Funny, but I always thought that the dollar coins were cool to own. Don't have many.
They looked cool stacked up like gold LOL!
Ever find a Cheerios Sacajawea?
I have never. Wished I would have kept them back in the day!
Did u check for the cheerio dallar
Every one, every time.
I haven't seen a hunt like this yet! I love the gold colored coins in great condition, but im always confused as to why normal people think they are valuable.
True. People are so stupid.
Because dollar coins just aren't commonly seen. Same reason people think $2 bills are rare.
@@RevanFan Yeah. I've had colleagues at work tell me how they collect silver dollars, and it's just Eisenhower and SBA dollars. They seem to think they are worth more than face.
@@brendanschuett I mean, they can be if they're varieties, 40% silver Ikes, or NIFCs. But normally they're not haha.
@@RevanFan It appears to be a common misconception that dollar coins in general are valuable, and I think the common name "silver dollar" might be helping that. My colleagues think their coins are made of silver. Yes they could be the valuable varieties, but I have not seen a single one that is uncommon. It is true that they don't really show up in change nowadays. I suppose finding a coin as big as an Eisenhower in your change can be quite eye-catching, and be a cool keepsake.
I don't think dollar coins are worth the time searching them. But as long as you're having fun!
Me either, but I've been asked for a few years so figured I'd FINALLY do a box.
I like and dislike the dollar coins, mainly due the the edge lettering, as they are time consuming to read.
I AGREE - it drove me MAD trying to find the mint marks on each coin LOL!
I'm also a bit concerned they will wear away quickly in circulation. so I'm for sure trying to complete my coin folders of them soon.
different hunt I got a presidential dollar in my change from a retailer here in Halifax and that person actually called the cops because she thought it was counterfeit I told her it was deffinately real and happily paid 1 dollar Canadian for it the cop agreed with me
I’m the first today!
First
Hi
BOOM! 💥
I cannot stand the fact that they chose to put the date and midmark on the edge of the coin. That is gonna get worn off so quickly it's a total stupid idiotic idea I see no point in it.
I AGREE - my eyes were begginf for no more! Worse than dimes!
👍
