I right away HARD disagree. Forward unto dawn is easily S tier and the best halo film like media produced. Just because it doesn't focus on action 24/7 doesn't make it slow and boring.
YOOO FUD fans? I honestly remember renting this on Redbox because my mom knew I liked Halo, and THIS made her like the Halo universe. We both loved the characters throughout, and ESPECIALLY that final act. To say it was boring most of the way through just doesnt make sense to me. Really hoped RS would enjoy that one :(
Yeah landfall was made by the same person that made district 9 and they used the some of the same assets. District 9 budget was $30M so that’s why it look so much better! 👏 Watch district 9 if you haven’t and you’ll see the similarities
What about mona Lisa? It was technically an animated voice acted comic book, movie thing. And I think that one can 100% take up an S tier. Super underrated and I encourage any halo fan to watch it to put the fear of the flood back into them. Also forward unto dawn and the duel are at least A tier for me.
Personally I think the version from the book was better. On its own the Mona Lisa animation would be an S or A but with the added context of the book I'd push it down to an A or B.
I loved Forward Unto Dawn because you get a really interesting background of Laskey. I always liked Laskey and it was really cool to see how he grew into the great Captain of the Infinity from basic training. Laskey doing the staring in the movie are the moments when you really see the change in his attitude and see what he’s going through as a young cadet. He’s an underrated character.
WHAT ABOUT HEADHUNTERS AND THE MONA LISA FROM HALO WAYPOINT!?! I know they were based on graphic novels but it is insane that they weren't even brought up here.
11:15 Honestly the Arbiter episode is one of the most important and beautiful ones in my opinion. This episode explains how the "Arbiter" Class was diminished to a shameful one, an expendable class of Elites only held at crisis times by the best Elite available (as explained in Halo 2).You're right about the low budget on that one, but the filter/artstyle they put on top of it gives it a samurai vibe that I've rarely ever seen in other animations. That battle of the Arbiter against the Covenant stands as one of the most amazing battles in Halo history in my opinion.
I had a visceral reaction to their placing of The Duel, I didn't realize how much I loved it until this video. It's so good, so moving. I never really feel that elsewhere in the franchise tbh
I honestly don't understand how they missed the quality of this one. Specifically, how is it hard to follow? I'm just so confused, it's like they watched it high or something
My favorite thing about Halo legends is that someone suggested that every part is being told from a characters perspective. Like in Babysitter its the ODST guys memory of how things went and how overpowering the Spartan was and how beautiful she was (since how the hell would you fit that much hair in a helmet like that?) But the funniest one to me is the Package being told by the Elite Commander. It explains like 90% of everything about it. Why is Halsey so young? Because Elites age much slower then humans so he just was like "She was a teenager some shit, idk what a 30 year old human looks like". Why did Halsey and Chief seem flirty? Because he had no idea what their relationship was. This even goes into the fight through the ship because the Spartans only encounter Brutes, Grunts and Jackals because the Elite Commander obviously think that they're crap and was like "Yeah, those wastes of skin couldn't stop them, but me and my Elites were able to slow them down"
Forward unto dawn was amazing to me and so far the only halo film that is actually set up like a full movie and not a miniseries or episodic like the animated halo series. Forward unto dawn isn't just about showing stuff from halo but also about making a cohesive story that actually has an arc and development. If you watch any drama movie you could say those are boring but many people see those as excellent movies. So just because it's not as fasted paced as the games doesn't make it a bad movie. In my opinion I would put Forward unto Dawn, into s tier for me along with the deliver hope trailer for Halo Reach and the We are ODST trailer for Halo 3 ODST
Could not agree more! I've watched Forward Unto Dawn several times over the years and always enjoyed it. For example, I like the fact that different characters react differently to the death of loved ones at the hands of the "enemy". Spoiler alert: Chyler lost her parents to an Insurrectionist attack. She hates the "Innies" and can't wait to become an ODST and fight against them. In contrast, Thomas lost his ODST brother in action against a different group of Insurrectionists, but his response is to grow skeptical of the war effort and the apparent need of the human leadership to settle differences with violence. Both characters can learn from one another.
Yup, saying its boring because you can't appreciate build-up or character building is a pretty low level critique, if you would even call it that. Not a very objective opinion from RocketSloth on this one. Forward Unto Dawn isn't perfect, but it does what it set out to accomplish and many of the early themes explored early on have pay-off. Sometimes it's all about pay-off, just look at Breaking Bad.
@@IcyPitz yeah definitely not perfect when compared to the rest of film as a whole but as a Halo movie it's definitely the best we've gotten when compared against the other Halo media out there! Forward unto Dawn was the first halo media I could recommend to people that like Sifi but didn't really want to play the games. All the other halo media out there was far to meta or required prerequisite knowledge to enjoy.
I know right? I hated that movie ever since I first watched it, the movie direction might be top-notch, but the script is absolutely terrible with some horrible characters.
Missed Halo media Halo Evolutions: Mona Lisa Halo: The Return Halo: Headhunters All media found on the Halo Waypoint and were some pretty good Halo stories. The Mona Lisa is about 1h long and has some very good Dead Space horror vibes. The Return has a ship master think upon his actions after everything he has done. Headhunters showed us deep operations and actually expanded the lore of what the UNSC did.
While Forward Unto Dawn may drag some, I think it deserves more recognition for it's particularly thoughtful ponderance of militarism and the UNSC. So many of those scenes of Lasky staring are placed contextually next to statues, training fields, etc, to show Lasky questioning the moral legitimacy of the UNSC and their war. Then the Covenant attacks, and suddenly there's a real reason for him to fight, and he shows he's not a coward for not wanting to fight humans. I think this more explicitly nails Bungie's vision for the UNSC than most Halo media so far. So for me it has to be at least B tier.
Forward Unto Dawn is no masterpiece, but I can not fathom it being being ranked below Nightfall, which is one of the most bland, frustrating pieces of Halo media I’ve ever watched
Personally, I love The Duel and oddly enough it is my favorite out of Legends, it shows the origin of the first Arbiter that was branded a heretic for telling the Prophet to his face that it was a lie. The Prototype was my second, The Babysitter was my third, and The Package tied with that. I loved everything from Legends, and I agree with Origins II being pretty boring.
Forward unto dawn should not have gone below B. The story it tells shows what its like for cadets like him, and for it to be Lasky of all people makes it even better, developing a background for him and his relationship with chief. It may be slow but that doesn't make it bad
@@RosheenQuynh it’s not an official halo show but it has halo involvements. Master chief exists in the world as shown by the first episode and the unsc is mentioned a lot. So it’s just non canon like the 1337 one.
How I would have done it: S tier - babysitter - believe - hunt the truth season 1 A tier - UNSC archives - hunt the truth season 2 - homecoming - the duel - forward unto dawn - we are ODST B tier - I love bees - remember reach - landfall - origins 1 - nightfall - prototype - odd one out C tier - origins 2 - the package D tier F tier - the fall of reach (I respect your opinions too, mine are simply different) (I also included a few things that weren't on your list but felt that they deserved a spot)
Package is S tier in my opinion i really liked the kind of mood of chief having to sacrifice the closest people to him and complete the mission gives his words in halo 4 more weight "as soldiers our duty is to protect humanity whatever the cost" and duel is straight A tier
@@RosheenQuynh dude it pissed me off that they put it so low cause of animation but fall of reach got a bump for no reason like the kids in fall of reach look so bad that it’s what I immediately think of when someone brings up fall of reach
Halo legends the package Chief just looks a lot more wide than halo 1-infinite and just kinda makes him look like a robot. Edit: *oh god his voice. Why not just pay Steve Downes to voice chief*
Okay, no disrespect, I really enjoy this channel, and this is the first time I've felt this visceral about anything said in a video from you guys... But seriously, wtf. The Duel is at LEAST A tier (personally, for me, it's S tier). It's absolutely not trash, which is what F tier is. This is the first time I've heard someone say it was hard to follow along with... How, if I may ask (I am tired so maybe I missed something during the segment about it)? I honestly cannot think of a better way to tell that story, it was so moving. Like, I'm really sorry, I know it's your guy's opinion, BUT DID YOU FEEL NOTHING WHEN FAL DESTROYED AN ENTIRE ARMY BY HIMSELF?! OR WHEN HE MOURNED HIS WIFE?! *_OR WHEN HE DIED?!_* You probably didn't have time to touch up on that (which I get, you spend only so much time per segment), but there was so much epicness in The Duel!!! How did ALL of that just slip passed y'all?! It's like Arbiter's side of Halo 2 on steroids - and that's why I prefer it over all the other Halo Legends stories (Origins was very cool too though, love to hear my favorite gal Cortana)! Now I never considered the artistic style thing, that's interesting. And I can see it, but I didn't think anything of it until now.
Did you even watch forward unto dawn? It really seems like you were on your phone's for the runtime. The last 20 mins are phenomenal and the build up really makes you care. The fight with the music, how they well they did the 117, the soundtrack, the warthog chase... So much to love. What a shitty ranking.
"Phenomenal" Yeah, MC babysitting some shouty teens, killing a MILITARY JEEP'S engine on a jackal corpse and shooting some jackal snipers in slow motion in the only one rubble filled corridor they made was surely SO PHENOMENAL. I loved seeing how crap MC performed, compared to the books and games.
I gotta give props to FUD for having a little bit of mystery as to what "Spartans" are to normal humans or to cadets not knowing their existence and what purpose are they for. Another thing is that the film made the Covenant terrifying, which I heard from a lot of people say that is what was being depicted in the books.
Some God damn hard core heresy here. Discounting that y'all say the world building in FUD is boring and underpaced ODD ONE OUT AT B TIER? REALLY? You give Fall of Reach a bonus for a terrible throw away joke but you dont boost Odd One Out for "Well I'm something of a MAMA MYSELF!" line? SMH
For me, Prototype was my standout favourite piece from Legends. The music, mood and sombre tone it sets depicting the dire struggle humanity was facing at the time and only buying time through pyrrhic victories and great sacrifices was the unfortunate norm for so many nameless heroes in the war. The one ray of hope was Ghost's last moments where he finally redeemed himself in his own eyes and his fallen squad mates. Bones animating it was another huge win too!
I think the impact that Halo 3 landfall had at the time for hyping up the release of Halo 3 and setting up the beginning of the game, on top of the amazing live action sequences at the time deserves an S tier lol
I was very confused about that too, honestly. I would love a follow-up as to why that was the case. Just to satisfy my curiosity haha They won't do it and that's okay!
@@RosheenQuynh They never do. They got bitch smacked into irrelevancy with the criticism over their shit Infinite takes, then made light of their audience. They'll do the same with this
This ranking is a hard disagree. I would put everything in legends above forward unto dawn and nightfall and definitely would rate forward unto dawn better than nightfall. The storytelling was much better and lasky as a character was way better than locke. Fall of reach had some decent points but the low budget of the animation makes it a really dull watch. S tier for me would definitely be origins and the blomkamp short, then the rest of legends in A and B tier with forward unto dawn C and fall of reach D. Hard F for nightfall.
Tier List: Halo "Films": S: Odd One Out (Comedic, heart warming, quality animation and sound effects, terrific voice acting, memorable moments and quotes, and some questionable canon, OOO is among one of the few pieces of Halo media that is sure to entertain anyone. There is a heavy reuse of past motifs, but outside of that the general atmosphere of this episode, and triumphant nature of the short story stands out above anything Halo Legends has to offer. If not for the incredible fun, OOO would be in C Tier.) S: Halo Landfall (Is there anything else to say? Grounded, gritty, action packed, stand out effects for the time, amazing set design from the costumes and weapons to the vehicles. It's great, and amazing at hyping up an audience. The setting is a bit dry, and it lacks an actual story. But as a short film, centered on the war between humanity and the Covenant, it's stands out above any other live action interpretation of Halo action. It set a bar of expectation, only surpassed by every live action commercial, and one that was barely met near the end of Forward Unto Dawn.) A: Evolutions 1&2 (World building, beautiful animation, sweeping score, all beautifully narrated by Jen Taylor. Like a Halo documentary.) A: The Babysitter (A beautifully acted, beautifully scored, beautifully animated short that focuses heavily on the character dynamics between ODST brethren, and Spartan celebrities, mostly between the hot headed O'brian, to the tender and destructive Kal. With an intriguing very linear story of trying to assassinate a Prophet, evade Covenant forces, fend off a Brute Captain, learning to work together as a team, and some heart warming if not expected character arcs, The Babysitter walks away being very memorable.) B: The Package (The Package delivers on a great piece of lore in a short story format, connecting the dots between written stories. The voice acting is good, the effects and music are amazing, the action is intense, the animation is beautiful and still stands up today against modern 3D animation shows/films, and the final sword clash memorable. Most of the animation is terrific. It's visually comparable to the acclaimed Final Fantasy films of the time. 3D Model work on human faces had hit a peak, and it definitely shows here. The only downside to the animation is a few jarring moments in visual continuity to the games, character model movements like some of the clunkiness that hinders Spartans/humans more fluid motion, and of course the odd sexualization of Dr. Halsey's animation model, one that doesn't visual match to her canon appearances at all. Outside of the few minor glaring issues, The Package is a solid entry in the Halo universe.) [I respect the X Tier] B: The Duel (An emotionally heavy story of loss and honor, beautifully written, beautifully scored, mostly decent voice acting, awesome action set pieces, good lore, well paced, and every frame a "literal" painting [Yes, it's a filter but cool non the less]. It's beautiful to look at, beautiful to listen to, and tells a story of the downfall of the name Arbiter. With Japanese cinema influence, it feels like a classic.) B: Prototype (Another somber tale in the Halo universe, Prototype delivers on high strung action, high stakes storytelling both situationally and characteristically, has one of the best character arcs in the anthology, amazing voice acting, beautiful animation, beautiful score, and delivers a sad but hopeful feeling to the universe as a whole.) C: Homecoming (A well paced, intriguing story that unravels as it plays out. Utilizing high tension and non-linear story telling very well, telling the story of a Spartan-II as we follow her last days. The impact of her loss is felt by the end, as well as the impact of losing a Spartan during the Human-Covenant War up to that point. The acting is passable, as well as very nice animation. The animation does flow, but in certain frames and certain angles things don't look right. The music is soft and somber, taking the audience along on this episode of discovery.) C: Forward unto Dawn (Quality set design, camera work, music composition, and acting. Actual characters who are built up with natural interactions, and feel real. It also feels like it's actually in the Halo universe, even before Chief arrives. It is a slower burn, with heavy emphasis on the character of Thomas Lasky, but when the action gets going, it goes hard. From a story standpoint, it doesn't connect very well with the rest of established canon in the Halo universe. The Lasky we see in the beginning and end is not the same Lasky we see in Halo 4, both visually and in terms of rank. As well as the fact that in canon, Lasky never met Chief before Halo 4. So it's an okay story, and feels like a high budget fan film, but Forward Unto Dawn deserves gentle praise.) D: Nightfall (Bland characters, bland writing, bland score, bland set design and color pallet after the opening, bland "characters", B-Movie camera work, made for TV presentation, and little to nothing to do with the Halo universe. Also, poor acting by a majority of the cast, and poor pacing that makes the film drag on. F: Fall of Reach (Incredibly god awful poor acting, poor art work [yes, I know the style was meant to be reminiscent of the in game terminals, but it limited so much visually throughout the whole thing that every set piece felt empty], limited score, and a story that disjointedly jumped all over the place with no pacing, swapping narrators every few "chapters", and failing to actually tell the store of the Fall of Reach. There were also a plethora of inconsistencies from book to screen; incorrect visual representations, dialogue, motivations, time stamps. And again, the biggest failure is the god awful voice acting from every character, even Steve Downes and Jen Taylor sounded like they phoned in their performances. No comment on Apartment 117.
What do you mean that Forward Unto Dawn isn’t canon? Lastly says in Halo 4 that he “never thought I’d ever see you again”, referring to John. Also the attack on Corbulo Academy is mentioned in some of the Halo books.
JooT Doctor I didn't say it wasn't canon, just that it didn't fit well into the overall canon. Like I said, the Lasky we see in the beginning and end of the film isn't the same rank (or look) as the Lasky we meet in Halo 4 for the first time. 343 has since rectified that original error, turning him from Captain to Commander (his proper rank at the time), but the blunder still stands on most dvd copies. Also, yes, we know Lasky trained at Corbulo, he mentions as much at the end of Halo 4, but he never mentions anything about a covenant attack OR that the Master Chief had saved him. And the line of "Never thought I'd see you again" isn't inherently in reference to their "original" meeting in the film. It's a line just about anyone would say seeing the legendary 117 after four years of being MIA. Everyone started to think Chief died, so of course Lasky, and the other marines, were shocked to see him alive. The issue isn't that Forward Unto Dawn isn't canon, it is. The issue is that it's messy, and it's connection to Halo 4 and official canon is muddied. Things don't line up perfectly, i.e. Lasky's appearance and rank in the film, his meeting Chief in 4 felt like the first time not like a reunion, and the lack of recognition for this kid Chief saved years ago from a planet wide invasion. The creative decisions in the films creation with what knowledge of Halo 4's story they had up to that point, all prior to Halo 4's official release, meant there were going to be some snags as the game finished development, and the story of the game stopped changing. The film is still good, and very enjoyable. But not every second of it can be considered canon. Much like how (regrettably) not every page in The Fall of Reach is canon as it conflicts with Halo: Reach's story.
Immediately disagree on Odd One Out being S Tier or even high tier at all. Easy F Tier just based on how hard it tries to be funny and the overall lack of general plot or storyline. It's definitely the weakest of the Legends episodes.
I watched Apartment 117 for the first time a few months back, divorced from it's context. It's not X tier or F tier, it's Z Tier. It's fucking abysmal and not goddamn funny in the slightest. It's like if you locked an animation team in a room and forced them at gun point to make a "comedy" adaptation of Halo; but all you gave them access to was Halo 3 Mythic and Penny Arcade.
The worst thing is that it put some of the films below Department 117 because according to him they were boring, they had bad animation or because they didn't make sense in halo Department 117 should be in the lowest place
I wish we got to see the Keyes Loop at some point in The Fall Of Reach though, it would’ve been good to since it’s only really mentioned in its origin, the book the movie was based on, The Package is so horrible it’s great
@@ghislain110 I loved Alien. Masterpiece. And so was James Cameron's aliens. But Prometheus and Covenant didn't make sense with the canon Scott himself established. And it ruined the mystery of the space jockey when David is the creator of the xenos. And bad acting, etc
Love your content, but when it comes to ranking, you guys miss the context. Halo forward into dawn when given its budget and purpose was well done, I guess it was a bit boring in the beginning, but the ending was just superb. Yeah, its not a great movie, but as only 1 of 2 actual Halo liveaction movies, its definitely S tier when it comes to Halo.
The Duel short in Legends tells the story of the first disgraced Arbiter in the Covenant, since it used to be a title to be respected until that Arbiter went against the prophets, so i do find it interesting in that regard but the art style i did find a bit jarring at times
Putting Odd One Out above The Duel is heresy. Odd One Out tried way too hard to be funny and just seemed like a lame anime episode that happened to have a Spartan in it, whereas at least with The Duel you can see why the title of Arbiter is as disgraced as it is during the modern Halo timeline.
I watched Forward Unto Dawn in middle/high school and I remember "liking" it (?). I just remember the last episode happened and I was so excited for the next one, then realized that was it. Also, I'm actually surprised Red Vs. Blue was not mentioned here. I know it was a UA-cam series, but it was on Netflix for awhile.
I feel like I am one of the rare cases that dislikes Legends. So here go with the controversial hot takes that. And before you all freak out, I do actually like anime, mostly older school stuff like pre 2000s, but I'm not one of those "ALL ANIME IS BAD" people, I just prefer older stuff over the new age stuff. Also Star Wars Visions was great fun, so it's not like I hate anime adaptation anthologies. Anyways, hot af take; Imho (most of) Halo Legends kinda sucks Origins is okay, giving long awaited background to what happened with the Forerunners and flood was nice, but some of it is obviously outdated/ changed by now and I personally prefer the new in depth lore. The Duel has a neat art style, but that's about it. The plot and outcome was fairly standard anime shenanigans. Also the humanized female elite was also very bizarre. I understand why they did it, but it was bizarre regardless. Homecoming was kinda boring and tries to pull hesrt strings by being dramatic when it isn't really. It's basically an episode of Naruto where a character is about to die so we get to see their life flash before their eyes and totally take awake from the moment at hand. Odd One Out, while hilarious and fun, is exactly as the title says; it is an odd one out. I'll give it a pass simply because it isn't meant to be serious or canon in any way. Also I believe Toei animated it which is neat. Prototype is the most generic, over the top, overdramatic, wannabe mech anime with a Halo paint job I've ever seen. "But omg guys it's so sad because the marine man's friend is dying get it guys it's so sad and now he's flying around in a Gundam fighting the Covenant and sacrifices himself to save his friends it's so sad!!!!" I had zero reaction or care about this one's outcome. The Babysitter was the only one I truly enjoyed. Great art style and animation, some fun action, and something a lot of anime greatly lack; some fucking subtlety. The reveal of the Spartan being a woman and yelling to take the shot was a bit overdone, but aside that this one takes the cake as the best of the shorts. I don't even want to talk about "The Package" because of how much I absolutely despise it. This truly might just be the worst piece of Halo media out there. I usually don't like to bash the animation because of how difficult it is to do, but good lord the character designs especially the Elites are so bizarre. Folks wanna bash the 343 elites all day and then praise Legends and ignore the absolutely horrifying look the Elites have in this short. And yea yea I get it's supposed to be stylized and maybe not 100% canon yadda yadda but it basically breaks canon completely. Ridiculously silly action sequences and dialogue coupled with a bizarre 3d srt style makes seriously dislike this one. So yea, there's my Halo Legends review that nobody asked for but needed to get it off my chest because I genuinely don't see the appeal for it aside from "haha Halo anime gud", and that's coming from the person who stands by the phrase "HALO IS HALO, IT'S ALL GOOD". Edited: words
Rocket Sloth: puts The Dual in F tier Me: "this is the true face of heresy. Ones who would subvert our faith, and incite rebellion against the fan base."
Man, i really want another Halo Legends, these anthology movies/series like Animatrix, Batman Gotham Knight and now Star Wars Visions are great, Japan knows what the ladies like. Also, young Halsey is the best and at the same time the worst aspect of The Package.
i understand this is mostly an opinion, but the arguments you used for some were awful. It felt like you did not understand the point, or even plot of some of these.
Pretty sure the duel is based off an old Anime style? I assume so since Star Wars Origins has an episode in a very similar style. I get its not for everyone, but I think its fuckin cool
Our movie tastes are dramatically different, I hated the nightfall movie and absolutely loved Forward Unto Dawn. Seeing Capt Lasky grow as he was being trained to be an officer, and the reason he personally respected Chief was cool. Where nightfall felt like a generic SyFy channel movie, with awful CGI.
I swear he only liked the stuff that was very much like the games, I don't think he's willing to experiment with stuff. I don't think he would like many of the books.
Peter Jackson at one point actually agreed to direct a Halo movie and even hired a writer whom, according to Staten after he read the screenplay, said was beyond perfect and was amazing. It went so far in pre-production that a year was announced upon when the movie would be released which was 2008. Both Universal Studios and 20th Century Fox agreed to distribute the movie. But then Bungie backed out due to a disagreement between the two distributors (Bungie wanted a $10 million but both distributors agreed on $5 million + 20% gross).
with Forward unto Dawn I strongly disagree that should be much higher. And I'm confused about Fall of Reach. I haven't seen it yet but everything I had heard about it said it's trash and should never be seen.
Bro I can’t stand this channel. They put something that got IMMEDIATELY canceled in B tier while stuff that’s actually good gets F, D, C tier. Y’all can have your own opinion but hot damn is it wack
I right away HARD disagree. Forward unto dawn is easily S tier and the best halo film like media produced. Just because it doesn't focus on action 24/7 doesn't make it slow and boring.
Sorry but there was no FOV slider in the DVD’s settings. That’s absolutely unacceptable
EXACTLY! And that opening scene of Cortana is a 10/10. That movie definitely does a great job of improving the messiness of Halo 4's campaign.
YES! I'm glad this comment was at the top. It seems like I'm not alone in my reaction to "F-Tier".
Agreed

Honestly the Arbiter episode is one of the most important and beautiful ones in my opinion.
A thing to add(in my opinion) it humanizes the Elites and show how they're not much different from humans
@@Grimli-hu3ls Absolutely!

My favorite thing about Halo legends is that someone suggested that every part is being told from a characters perspective.
Like in Babysitter its the ODST guys memory of how things went and how overpowering the Spartan was and how beautiful she was (since how the hell would you fit that much hair in a helmet like that?)
But the funniest one to me is the Package being told by the Elite Commander. It explains like 90% of everything about it. Why is Halsey so young? Because Elites age much slower then humans so he just was like "She was a teenager some shit, idk what a 30 year old human looks like". Why did Halsey and Chief seem flirty? Because he had no idea what their relationship was. This even goes into the fight through the ship because the Spartans only encounter Brutes, Grunts and Jackals because the Elite Commander obviously think that they're crap and was like "Yeah, those wastes of skin couldn't stop them, but me and my Elites were able to slow them down"
As hilarious of an explanation that is for The Package, that doesn't deter my distaste for it.

Duel in F tier????
"This is the true face of heresy" you guys are JOKING lol
Had me reacting viscerally too haha
Probably just because of the visuals
Well said, I feel the same.
Agreed
Could not agree more! I've watched Forward Unto Dawn several times over the years and always enjoyed it. For example, I like the fact that different characters react differently to the death of loved ones at the hands of the "enemy".
Spoiler alert:
Chyler lost her parents to an Insurrectionist attack.
How do you put the Duel in F tier but have nightfall in C tier

Well you just saved me from wasting my time on this video. Thanks.

Personally, I'd put Nightfall in F tier. Couldn't get invested in even a single character and they just kept making the worst decisions over and over.
I know right? I hated that movie ever since I first watched it, the movie direction might be top-notch, but the script is absolutely terrible with some horrible characters.
A Tier stop the nos... cap.
And it also never gets relevant much in H5: Guardians and Infinite...
Missed Halo media
Halo Evolutions: Mona Lisa
Halo: The Return
Halo: Headhunters
All media found on the Halo Waypoint and were some pretty good Halo stories. The Mona Lisa is about 1h long and has some very good Dead Space horror vibes. The Return has a ship master think upon his actions after everything he has done. Headhunters showed us deep operations and actually expanded the lore of what the UNSC did.
They're all from Evolutions. All have written form originals. Don't think they count, just like Fall of Reach shouldn't count.
Red vs Blue: you challenge me mortal
You know they left out half of the Halo: Evolutions stuff? Mona Lisa and Headhunters were on the other half of the set for it.
Mona Lisa would be S Tier!
bro not the trash shit bro
I know this is a subjective list but man putting The Duel in F tier is true heresy.
Agreed, and putting Odd One Out above it just made it worse
It’s a terrible list
Prototype didn't get an S?! A thousand hells await you...
Can we get a Halo tree tier list??
yo palm trees in Reach Reflection gang
Forward unto dawn should not have gone below B. The story it tells shows what its like for cadets like him, and for it to be Lasky of all people makes it even better, developing a background for him and his relationship with chief. It may be slow but that doesn't make it bad
I know it isn’t official but I think red vs blue should’ve been on here. That is an SS tier show
Would that count though? 🤔
@@RosheenQuynh it’s not an official halo show but it has halo involvements. Master chief exists in the world as shown by the first episode and the unsc is mentioned a lot. So it’s just non canon like the 1337 one.

D tier
F tier
- the fall of reach
(I respect your opinions too, mine are simply different)
(I also included a few things that weren't on your list but felt that they deserved a spot)
Better than the actual list TBH
Package is S tier in my opinion i really liked the kind of mood of chief having to sacrifice the closest people to him and complete the mission gives his words in halo 4 more weight "as soldiers our duty is to protect humanity whatever the cost" and duel is straight A tier
Halo show actually got some really big actors from movies like 13 hours which is a goated movie.
"But you know what...I'm one heck of a mama myself!"
how did you guys not put it in S tier immediately afterward
Starts the Duel right away with “now this may be a controversy”
Duel is an Easy A or even S
Exactly! I'm wondering if maybe they just prefer stories closer to home (barring Forward Unto Dawn and such)
@@RosheenQuynh dude it pissed me off that they put it so low cause of animation but fall of reach got a bump for no reason like the kids in fall of reach look so bad that it’s what I immediately think of when someone brings up fall of reach
Babysitter is one of my favorites. I loved The Package. Like yeah, Halsey looked younger than I imagined, but I love it.
I’m late but Halo Landfall takes place hours before Halo 3 tracking the Master Chief falling from the Dreadnaught
Halo legends the package Chief just looks a lot more wide than halo 1-infinite and just kinda makes him look like a robot.

Uhhhh The Duel was the best one. No other answer is acceptable. Sorry not sorry
"Phenomenal"
Yeah, MC babysitting some shouty teens, killing a MILITARY JEEP'S engine on a jackal corpse and shooting some jackal snipers in slow motion in the only one rubble filled corridor they made was surely SO PHENOMENAL.
SMH
How was Nightfall anything but F tier
For me, Prototype was my standout favourite piece from Legends. The music, mood and sombre tone it sets depicting the dire struggle humanity was facing at the time and only buying time through pyrrhic victories and great sacrifices was the unfortunate norm for so many nameless heroes in the war. The one ray of hope was Ghost's last moments where he finally redeemed himself in his own eyes and his fallen squad mates. Bones animating it was another huge win too!
“The Duel” honestly deserves F-tier just for making the only onscreen female Elite look like a human woman. Seriously, what the hell was that design?
Legends has to be S tier
No.
In terms of the anime art style it should be the lowest tier ever. Anime is trash
I think the impact that Halo 3 landfall had at the time for hyping up the release of Halo 3 and setting up the beginning of the game, on top of the amazing live action sequences at the time deserves an S tier lol
What about the Mona Lisa? I kept expecting that to come in and hit A or S tier and it never showed up!
The Duel was hard to follow? Jesus.

Forward Unto Dawn did not deserve to be put in D Tier, that is ridiculous
This ranking is a hard disagree. I would put everything in legends above forward unto dawn and nightfall and definitely would rate forward unto dawn better than nightfall. The storytelling was much better and lasky as a character was way better than locke. Fall of reach had some decent points but the low budget of the animation makes it a really dull watch. S tier for me would definitely be origins and the blomkamp short, then the rest of legends in A and B tier with forward unto dawn C and fall of reach D. Hard F for nightfall.
Tier List: Halo "Films":
S: Odd One Out (Comedic, heart warming, quality animation and sound effects, terrific voice acting, memorable moments and quotes, and some questionable canon, OOO is among one of the few pieces of Halo media that is sure to entertain anyone. There is a heavy reuse of past motifs, but outside of that the general atmosphere of this episode, and triumphant nature of the short story stands out above anything Halo Legends has to offer. If not for the incredible fun, OOO would be in C Tier.)
S: Halo Landfall (Is there anything else to say? Grounded, gritty, action packed, stand out effects for the time, amazing set design from the costumes and weapons to the vehicles. It's great, and amazing at hyping up an audience. The setting is a bit dry, and it lacks an actual story. But as a short film, centered on the war between humanity and the Covenant, it's stands out above any other live action interpretation of Halo action. It set a bar of expectation, only surpassed by every live action commercial, and one that was barely met near the end of Forward Unto Dawn.)
A: Evolutions 1&2 (World building, beautiful animation, sweeping score, all beautifully narrated by Jen Taylor. Like a Halo documentary.)
A: The Babysitter (A beautifully acted, beautifully scored, beautifully animated short that focuses heavily on the character dynamics between ODST brethren, and Spartan celebrities, mostly between the hot headed O'brian, to the tender and destructive Kal. With an intriguing very linear story of trying to assassinate a Prophet, evade Covenant forces, fend off a Brute Captain, learning to work together as a team, and some heart warming if not expected character arcs, The Babysitter walks away being very memorable.)
B: The Package (The Package delivers on a great piece of lore in a short story format, connecting the dots between written stories. Outside of the few minor glaring issues, The Package is a solid entry in the Halo universe.) [I respect the X Tier]
B: The Duel (An emotionally heavy story of loss and honor, beautifully written, beautifully scored, mostly decent voice acting, awesome action set pieces, good lore, well paced, and every frame a "literal" painting [Yes, it's a filter but cool non the less]. It's beautiful to look at, beautiful to listen to, and tells a story of the downfall of the name Arbiter. With Japanese cinema influence, it feels like a classic.)
B: Prototype (Another somber tale in the Halo universe, Prototype delivers on high strung action, high stakes storytelling both situationally and characteristically, has one of the best character arcs in the anthology, amazing voice acting, beautiful animation, beautiful score, and delivers a sad but hopeful feeling to the universe as a whole.)
C: Homecoming (A well paced, intriguing story that unravels as it plays out. The music is soft and somber, taking the audience along on this episode of discovery.)
C: Forward unto Dawn (Quality set design, camera work, music composition, and acting. So it's an okay story, and feels like a high budget fan film, but Forward Unto Dawn deserves gentle praise.)
D: Nightfall (Bland characters, bland writing, bland score, bland set design and color pallet after the opening, bland "characters", B-Movie camera work, made for TV presentation, and little to nothing to do with the Halo universe.
Great summaries man, my thoughts exactly. You should have made this tier list fr fr😂
A much better tier list than the one in the video itself.
The worst thing is that it put some of the films below Department 117 because according to him they were boring, they had bad animation or because they didn't make sense in halo
Department 117 should be in the lowest place
after watching the new show it makes me appreciate forward unto dawn so much more

How is every one
Good
Great mate
Anyways, hot af take; Imho (most of) Halo Legends kinda sucks
Origins is okay, giving long awaited background to what happened with the Forerunners and flood was nice, but some of it is obviously outdated/ changed by now and I personally prefer the new in depth lore.
