It's important to remember that the Tomb Raider remasters are remasters, not remakes, so I don't understand criticizing the outdated controls or mechanics. The thing is exactly what it said it was going to be on the box. That being said, I really enjoyed playing through those games again and I think Aspyr did a great job making those old games as good as they possibly could be without remaking them.
@@ooferrell yup. I play with the old controls, because the entire world is built around her original stiff tank controlled movements. I think nothing else plays like old Tomb Raiders, so they have their charm. Not disappointing at all. Especially considering 3 games for $30 is a better deal than you get with almost all other remasters.
I agree its for fans of the classic so we expect it to play how it did rather then like a remake. so it was not a flop to me and other fans waiting for this we are just glad we get to play this on moden consoles and the lick of paint is just a bonus. So to us it's not a flop not everything has to be modern. ✌🏻👍🏻
I was just saying myself how long time fans were over the moon with the remasters, critics don't seem to get that however and Triple Jump mostly use critic response so I understand it being here
The microstransations for Dragon's Dogma 2 were made because the corporation told the developer to add something for people to spend money on even though they didn't agree, so they added stuff that no one would buy to shut their bosses up and not waste people's money
I actually liked Alone In The Dark despite how a bit janky and dull the gameplay felt. And the near ending scene that led up to the final boss had me so shocked that it made it all worth it. 7/10
That’s how I feel about Concorde. That whole subgenre of shooters doesn’t appeal to me, so my only real expectation for new ones that come along is “it won’t be as big as Overwatch.”
Tomb raider 1-3 was one of the best games I played this year and on a steam deck it feels the right way to play. The success of the trilogy bringing us 4-6 remaster
I actually loved the Tomb Raider trilogy. I still need to play the third one, but I’m having a blast each time I play. I can’t wait for the next trilogy set to come out next year
Sorry, I disagree with Tomb Raider 1-3 being on here. I had so much fun with it and enjoyed my trip down memory lane. Maybe it's because I played them back in the day (yes, I am that old).....
She mentioned the ‘outdated controls’ but that’s what we all wanted! The tank controls were part of the charm of the originals. Clearly gen Z don’t get it. Ask anyone who was there when the originals came out and we’ll all agree that the TR remasters were absolutely fantastic
Battlefront Classic Collection was definitely my most disappointing game of this year. I was a big fan of the originals so I wasn’t too put off by the lack of modernization, but I can’t abide how low-effort the entire package is. Straight ports of 20-year-old games on modern hardware shouldn’t lead to a significantly worse playing experience, the Silent Hill HD Collection comparisons are spot on.
Considering this year had some real disastets I strongly disagree with much of this list. Alone in the Dark 2024 was friggin great and the writing definitely was not dull. Dragon's Dogma 2 felt like a very logical and well thought out evolution of the original and though it's definitely a niche game I think it's exactly wath fans of the original wanted in most aspects. The Tomb Raider trilogy was pretty explicitly marketed as remasters of the original games and not remakes so if people expected full Resident Evil 2 style remakes then that's more on them than the games, and it's important to keep older games accessible. I have not played Rise of the Ronin myself yet but I've heard nothing but good things about it.
I don't honestly see how any of Dragon's Dogma 2, Tomb Raider or Rise of the Ronin qualify to be in here. I'd replace them with Dragon Age the Veilguard, Slitterhead and Life is Strange Double Exposure
This was a pretty disappointing list tbh. Rise of the Ronin and Tomb Raider rocked, and they weren't the only good games on here. I know Triple Jump has better quality than this.
I love Ben, Peter, Ashton and the gang, but they've been slacking recently. I always watch their podcast and every week Peter never has much to say about what he's been playing, they read stories and comment on them without knowing the full story, or give out wrong/incomplete information. That's fine for talking to friends, but not for a gaming centric channel. I'm not trying to be mean here, but maybe they're spreading themselves a little too thin? Ashton, if you're reading this, its all from a place of love.
As a massive DC Comics fanatic I am so sad SS KTJL turned out how it did... Though I admit it's not exactly the worst thing I've played it's definitely not that best either. It doesn't hold a candle to the Rocksteady Arkham trilogy and that stings badly...
I was thoroughly impressed with, and really enjoyed, the Tomb Raider remaster. I was especially happy to see the previously PC exclusive expansions finally brought to consoles. It's faithfulness to the originals was welcomed, and these were advertised as remasters, not remakes. Suicide Squad I understand making the list. Personally, now there's an offline mode and reductions that see it going for a fiver, it's worth a punt. It can scratch a Crackdown-like itch nicely.
Tomb Raider 1 already has a Remake. Its called Tomb Raider Anniversary. And to be honest, they were supposed to be just Remasters; not full on Resi Evil Style Remakes. Quite frankly despite the renewed graphics I'm glad it still retains the 90s charm. Not to mention, I don't get why the modern controls received criticism. I've completed 1 & 2 with modern controls and I'm half way through 3... That's more than could be ever said for how I got on with them back in PS1 days. I think if people were going into that trilogy expecting more than remasters, they were setting themselves up for failure as always. Right now, I cannot wait to see how Tomb Raider IV-V-VI Remasters come out. Obviously there's gonna be detractors but I think it's gonna be amazing.
Tomb Raider 1 - 3 remastered being on the list irritated me a bit cause despite critics reaction, long time fans of the franchise were very happy with the remasters (me included)
Honestly, how can Concord be number 1 when pretty much no one had any expectations for it to begin with? People only realized it even existed after it had already gone belly up. Can probably think of far more fitting games for the list.
I played through Rise of Ronin and can agree it was rather underwhelming, and suffered from the usual overbloated'ness of openworld games. Some of these other ones sorta surprised me but not really, like Dragons Dogma 2, Alone in the Dark, Tomb Raider.. they came out and no one talked about them after like a week (or less).
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Dragon's Dogma II Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Rise of the Ronin Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Skull & Bones Star Wars: Outlaws Alone in the Dark Life is Strange: Double Exposure Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
I'm disappointed that the Tomb Raider remasters are on here to be honest. I think perhaps whoever wrote this list (as well as the critics they quoted) had the wrong expectations of the remasters. I thought it was pretty clear from the outset that they were not trying to be remakes in any way, but simply a port of the originals to modern systems with some (optional) graphical enhancements. As that, they couldn't have been any better in my opinion. These games never had the best control scheme because Core Design were breaking new ground when it came to 3D gaming, and that's why they came up with the grid-based map system that uses fixed-size blocks and movements. The controls definitely don't hold up to modern standards, sure, but neither does that of Space Invaders or Super Mario lol.
Suicide squad is top for me. I played it with such a monotone attitude. Proper boring game. Finished and immediately couldn't remember anything lol. Some of the cutscenes were quite good. But the locations and the enemy types? No idea
People weren’t disappointed with Snow Day just because the gameplay was different, it also got a lot of crap for having a short runtime, limited content and toned-down humor compared to Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole. There’s even word Parker and Stone weren’t directly involved despite being credited as writers, supposedly all they did was come up with the basic premise then left it to their staff writers and the developers to do all the real work.
The essence of memberberries, just like Hollywood. If they made these games as a new IP, and gave them their own legs, who knows what might happen? Revitalize the indutry a bit? Maybe? Creating these remakes definitavely helps some from previous tech innovations for some great stuff, but a lot of these bastardise the old IP. Also, we will never accept microtransactions. But the new breed have grown with nothing else, just like "search." So long as the people with money a.k.a grown, dictates where the money goes so long as mum and dad don't keep their card balance behind a password. Comedy.
Mines Assassin's creed mirage. Took a punt on it for £14:99 at Smyth's Toys...... absolutely dull as dish water. Like literally playing a game made from beige paste.
I don’t know that I’d say South Park has been consistently good for the past 25 years. As Matt Stone and Trey Parker have gotten older, richer, and more out of touch with real life, they’ve developed a bad habit of being more preachy than funny. Which wouldn’t bother me if they hadn’t been preaching basically the exact same thing since 1999, and their message of cynical nihilism hasn’t really appealed to me since I was a teenager.
Stopped watching after that take on TR remaster. I understand not being happy about graphics "upscale", maybe even the controller (which I believe were swappable between old style to the new) but saying the game mechanics needed to be updated is absolute trash. Clearly your expectations of remasters are absurdly high, its honestly BS like this that steers the gaming community wrong and takes away respect from critics. I honestly havent played TR since 2001, so I wouldnt call myself a 'fanboy', but I'll call out a dumb take when I hear it. I get that its your opinion of the game, but clearly one in the minority too, when its sitting at 97% positive on steam, and a high meta critic score of 75 (critic) 7.6 (fan).
I would not call the tomb raider remasters a flop on the contrary i fact. Alot of feiend who i know who play this expected it to play the same. We are just glad we can play our old classics on a current gen the lick of paint is just a bonus it's not for critics its for fans. We would have been more upset i think if it was like a remake then a remaster as we dont want it to be changed just the new additions are nice but i like the fact fundamentally it's the same as the classics.
I haven't played it but even I'm scratching my head, didn't everybody like that one?? I guess they have to have one engagement bait pick, they've got salaries to pay after all.
@@icravedeath.1200 I don't entirely disagree with the points made, the PC version was poorly optimised and the way microtransactions were handled poorly but putting it in a list of most disappointing games is mad for a game of this quality
