Class... everything about this track was what Brit jazz funk was all about, I have to doff my hat to the musicians who performed on this fabulous track. Thank you 🎷
Jean Palmer, Chris' mum owned Groove Records, 52 Greek St., W1. She was on Nationwide once, showing off her encyclopaedic knowledge of jazz-funk back then. Greg used to buy his records from Groove.
I tell you what those folks 'across the pond' got the funk down as surely as we do here Stateside. I love this selection. It would be good for me to find out more about this group.
Gosh, Nick, are you my twin?? Yes, yes, yes. All that - Greg Edwards, Robbie Vincent, JFM, Invicta & LWR. The Royalty Southgate, Bird's Nest Muswell Hill, Bumbles Wood Green. Where did you used to go? Wonderful WONDERFUL years !! I used to buy my records from the little record shop at Bounds Green Station, or Dereks Records Turnpike Lane - they did well out of me ! Still got over 1000 12" vinyls. (Groove records was later for me - like 1986 for House stuff)
Still got all my white labels and Groove label vinyl (just started digitizing my collection - might take me a few years!). Those definitely were the days. Thanks Jean for your cutting edge outlet (R.I.P.)
Try Soul Brother Records, Putney in London, England. They usually have a good stock old old jazz-funk classics. If they can't help you get back to me and I'll track down a shop that's got a copy for you. Ironically the label this is on ran a record shop. I even went in there but failed to get a copy of this for myself back in the day. I even spoke to the owner, Chris Palmer.
As I recall, every discerning DJ or collector made a beeline for Groove Records in Soho on a Saturday morning when all the import 12"/LPs arrived. Jean Palmer spun what she could but it was only a small shop...it was something of a scrum...Nicely sealed items...always went away pleased and loaded with some top tunes.
We #WarmRecords released this as a single in 1982 or 1981, I can-t precise, with i ts own colour sleeve designed by #Your-Lisbon-Guide Mary Goudie #YourLisbonGuide
Have started to cover this tune in my band , one of my all time fav.brit jazz funk bands back in the day
