Maaan. My physio told me to start doing pilates and it was killing me being the only guy. Then I was sitting in bjj and noticed there was one woman and I instantly had a million times more respect for her showing up.
Currently training to be a pilates teacher. This has been brilliant insight to seeing men doing the class. I've gone to classes for years and only seen 1 man. Thanks James and Dirren
Your response to the genocide of the Palestinians was really disappointing, lazy, and apathetic. It’s EVERYONE’S responsibility to educate themselves and speak up for the oppressed. This affects ALL OF US.
Pilates is brilliant, when I was training as a ballet dancer it was a compulsory class to help protect against injury especially for the men. It's pretty good for helping with a bad back too
Another banger. Back 2 back awesome content. Last couple videos had like a kinda men’s magazine vibe. Not like men’s health but something more real. Wicked entertainment! 🙌🏾
I teach pilates 6 days a week. An 89 year joined beginning of 2023 and he can now plank for three minutes. He does do pilates religiously four times a week and works really hard.
Great to see you bringing this to the awareness of more men J! As a former prop forward in rugby, I wish I had courage to get into pilates sooner. Have been doing pilates for the past 12 months and it's been game changing for my strength and conditioning training. The improvements in my core and stability are so underrated and my overall health both physical and mental has been incredible. Right now we're in the middle of this massive trend of 'hybrid' training and I expect to see pilates become a bigger focus for a well rounded athletes program. As Lisa said, all you need to do is twice a week
From Minute 18:00 Spitting pure wisdom in a very entertaining way, thank you! Beautiful rhythm in how each of you said one verse while up on the machine, building on the former verse. This made me actually laugh out and clip it and share it around 🎉
I´m a PT and I teach classic Mat Pilates. I always tough it would be stretching and easy. But oh boyy was I wrong!! I love the method and im going to learn the reformer in the future. Pilates is a great complement for banging the weights at the gym
I am an active guy, training for triathlon, I've done some strength training too. Currently I'm struggling with my lower back pain after working 8 hour shifts in a coffee shop it F'ed me up. Those exercises look like an absolute magic cure to what I'm suffering with now 🙌🙌
Do it! I teach mat Pilates and am currently teaching a healthy backs course. My classes are reporting they feel much stronger in their backs and some have improved on previous discomfort and pain they were experiencing.
I've trained Muay Thai for a bit and I will tell you truly from my heart, Pilates is the hardest thing I've done but boy did it help me with the gym and core strength
Added some Pilates sessions on top of weight training a few years ago. What it immediately highlighted was all the strength imbalances in muscle groups not properly utilised in your standard weight routine. The classes themselves are no joke and super humbling when done correctly. Outside of a full length class if you've access to a Pilates bed they're excellent tools for warmup and activation.
Really interesting James 👍 As a 50+ young lad I've started to struggle more with movement and this looks great to help with mobility while working core strength and posture 🙌
Pilates for me is the perfect workout if you do exercises for maintenance.Pilates is about carrying that big sofa together with your mates up three flights of stairs without throwing out your back and without getting out of breath. Your muscles will get strong, your posture will become amazing fast and stiff shoulders are something you are less likely to get if at all. Also, getting the exercises exactly right (very important) will keep your brain occupied so things don't become boring. Plus it's low impact so if you don't feel like total crap during and after it. This makes keeping up a routine easier. Oh, and you can do it at home on a mat.
Integrating pilates into my workout routine twice a week created a massive reduction in my back and hip soreness post jiu-jitsu. A testament to the core stability value
I've been a Barre & Pilates instructor for 3 yrs. I'm currently getting my Reformer certification. I also get men in class whose physical therapist told them to join my class.
I've been doing pilates for a couple of months now because my physio told me so, and it's definitely helped me with my middle and lower back pain - can recommend.
Id recommend either or and not both in addition to strength training, at least light weights if you cant due to injuries as it works very differently on muscle groups. Yoga is not my thing, not saying its easy, its not, but its very static compared to Pilates and i cant enjoy it as much because of the static nature of it.
@itzikca thanks. I only have time for one or the other. I will probably try one for a while and then try the other to see which gives me better results.
@@elelonger4409 that's what I'm intending to try. I've been averaging 5x a week lifting for the last 2½ months, but that doesn't work for me long-term, builds up too much systemic fatigue.
In my old gym we had Pilates classes, and the majority was actually guys, its difficult and very beneficial, you can actually get sore from high intensity Pilates too.
Have come off IG for a few weeks & have missed your posts (but still get your daily emails 👍)! A great view as so funny! Your banter with each other is so funny 🤣
I’ve been doing Mat Pilates for 12 months now and it’s been an absolute game changer for me. Better mobility, posture, core strength and awareness of how I’m moving.
Always wanted to try pilates for a long time now.. espacially for flexibility and recovery days.. only thing that held me back was the fees and yeah its filled with mostly girls so kinda got intimidated by that
I do 2 Pilates classes a week mixed in with 3 gym weights sessions. It’s absolutely complementary. And you can load up some VERY serious resistance on a Reformer Bed!!
I did Pilates years ago. I should try it again, great for mobility training. Osteoporosis prevention needs impact exercises but this would be good in supporting good form.
made by a man who did jujitsu for rehabing war veterans gawdamm, that's a good history. if that is used as a selling point you'll get a lot of guys signing up
Yoga Pilates they are all actually great for the body I’ve been doing it for the last year now. I feel much better and recover faster from exercise because of it I think. It’s a great body and stress reset once a week to pushing in the gym.
I've been using these machines since my gym got them at the start of this month. I enjoy it but it's more difficult than it looks. Glad some lads in much better shape than myself are having similar issues I have had since starting on them.
The reformer is brilliant. I started watching weight training videos to see how I could use the reformer better to build muscle. There is so much in weight training that is transferrable to reformer training....The only problem is that now I've added weight training to my already hectic pilates schedule 😉
We've got one of those machines at home, it just sits there unused. Now I've seen what's possible I'm going to use it. Why haven't I used it before? You know when something just becomes part of the furniture and you get used to seeing it and not questioning it? Socks are even capable of living beside the wall on the floor over there, until one day someone says, who's sock is that?
@discosue I think I'll give it a 6 month trial and see if my body is improved. I already train everything in the gym, 4 days a week, so it'll be interesting to see if I can add extra conditioning.
I started doing clinical Pilates years ago. My strength at a core level went through the roof. Can’t speak highly enough of it. It’s a different sort of workout but can still absolutely destroy you.
"For anyone wondering, no, you cannot be too big to do pilates" As a fat man who is only a few months into my new health-focused lifestyle, that quote was both spit my water out funny and also warming to know even I, a fat uncoordinated brute, can try pilates and reap the benefits.
Well he was joking talking about muscles, you being a big guy obviously are going to find pilates very challenging but you can apply yourself to anything you want and will surely reap the benefits, keep going big fella do yourself proud
I think Pilates became popular among women because of Joe Pilates' work with injured dancers, most of whom were women and many of whom went on to start their own Pilates studios, which naturally catered to women. Meanwhile, Joe Pilates was a boxer...
I always strongly recommend yoga to everyone who's into fitness or anyone in general. Especially as we get older, we need to incorporate stretching even more into our routine. It's literally a life saver and game changer.
Man, thanks for making this video😂 It can be much more simple even than reformer and using the equipment. The funny thing is, it was created by a sports man to aid all the things you mention about 100 years ago then went mental amongst the women in society, seemingly forgetting its roots. Looking forward to doing this type of exercise when I'm 80. Sorry for women that are kept down by low expectations. By the way, you don't need this kind of machinery to do any of these movements.
Haha I've done diren's online group before but wanted to do my reformer instead of the programs exercises, recall being told pilates wouldn't be that great haha I didn't listen btw ;)
Oh, side lying hip work on the Reformer, how I love and hate you. She mentioned she has students that come 5 days a week. Wish I could have about 3 months of that!
Goofs non stop laughing, joking, giggling, snickering and talking over the instructor’s directions for proper safety and form. These boys made a mockery of an amazing practice, in the name of content. “I love scissoring” 🤦🏻♀️

Honestly this has convinced me to give it a try. Completely different modality than big compound barbell lifts. Thanks James "Quadzilla" Smith!
Loved this! I implement a couple of reformer classes each week in between my lifting days. It's done wonders for my knee pain.

Strength imbalances are good. If your quads weren't any stronger than your eyelids, you'd have a problem.

I think I need to start Pilates or Yoga once a week. Lots of old sports injuries and my hips are always tight from sitting at a desk.

Pilates is an awesome addition to your training program. Who won’t benefit from a strong and stable core ?
If you can squat or deadlift heavy weight you will already have a strong core and this will not have a huge impact on your core strength.

Pilates looks great for everyone sitting at desks, those hip stretches would always be great

Aerobics
Yoga
MMA/BJJ
CrossFit
....and Pilates.

Pilates started out to train dacers, male n female dancers... to be strong.
Makes ballet dance are so strong they can lift up females dancers.
