I'm old school. I went with yellow bulbs for my fog lamps (E46). I wanted legit fog lamps, not just accessory driving lights. I definitely need to upgrade the headlights though. Good stuff here, and the new shop is looking fantastic!
Hi Nathan, keep the E39 its gonna be worth it some years down the track, just don't molester it, keep it original but the LED upgrades are worth it. Many thanks Felix.
Hey Nathan, if you really plan I’m keeping the e39, the best option would be to get oem HID headlights with new projectors from the retrofit source. I just recently did that to mine and it’s night and day difference! I feel safe driving at night lol. I also put and hid kit in the high beams. The biggest difference that I made, was installing projectors in the fog lights! I have a 2011 328i with Bi-xenon headlights, and these are by far the best headlights I have ever had! Keep up the great videos man, and lovin the new garage! You actually have some elbow space now!
I drive an E39 530d in the UK, like the police and have some Hikari Ultra LED on order from USA to put in the projector main beam. Hope these work as it so pitiful the light I would be better off using a torch ! Will keep you updated.
Mate police do not drive E39 530D 🤣🤣🤣🤣 They drive the new technology not E39 you lost the plot mate which police in the U.K drive E39 please state ??? They drive the new X5 F10 and X1 Your talking about the bill mate The program many many years ago in the 90s nobody drives that crap now
Had the car since new. The police at the time drove the 2.5diesel in SE trim, mine is a sport touring. Least I can work on the car without being a computer engineer like the newer models. Standard lights still crap though.
@@BMWDoctor Not currently perhaps, but e39 definitely was in use by a number of terratorial police forces in the UK. Giveway for an ex police is orange indicator on facelift headlights. Seen some of your videos, always good value! I'm quite surprised you weren't aware.
Hello guys i'm a big fan of the BMW 5er e39 and now i decided to buy one from this model but i want to ask you for help :) Which mod, which year, which engine and diesel or gasoline and manual gearbox or automatic transmission ??? thanks
A couple of days ago I found out why my e39 halogen headlights were so dim. The problem is the reflective mirror like coating inside the projector housing. Mine is falling apart. Have to replace both headlights.
I have a 2002 525i that I bought a few months ago . The original owner installed some horrible aftermarker headlights. What is the best option for me. Look for used factory ones, or go with the Hella new made ones?
Thank you. The more I watch the more I would like to see you pick up a 1999 E38 740il ton repair and sell. I am sure you have many fans who have this vehicle and are in need of you knowledge. Please consider, or run a poll to see if its viable for you and your fans.. Cheers john.m
Hey Nathan, sorry to bother but I was wondering if you could send me a link to the angel eyes you fitted on your 530. I have an e46 and have been looking for angel eyes that match the original halogen light color. Thank you for your time Luca
I have zenon lights on my e46 but I noticed the bowls are burnt so the light output is weak. Not sure how to replace them without spending 5k on new headlights.
jsloden1 no I do not recommend this this is why all your cars overheat in the USA doing this do not do this trust me you think bmw put that there for nothing if they believed it does nothing if your PWM fan fails what fan is going to cool the engine ???
Throw that fan away it does nothing but ruin the bearing in your water pump and break and dent your hood , but you have to make 100% sure the electric fan is working correctly , on a hot had idling with the clutch fan working the engine will overheat in 15 min of idling without the electric fan
I’ve got a 2001 X5 E53. I’d like to convert my hid low beams to led. Do you need an adapter? Will they set off an error on the dash? I’d also like to do High beams and fog lights. What do you recommend? I put led taillights and it set off error code on the dash that indicates my tail lights are out also. Any idea how to get that to turn off? Do I have to get a inline resistor?
We in the EU are lucky as the European lighting regulations are far better than the US ones. There is not a single BMW produced for Europe since the 80s that needs a lighting upgrade to be safe on the road at night. Even our pre facelift E38 and E39 have projector lights and they have a dashboard control to level the lights (as do most Euro spec cars without auto levelling). The only problem is you have to have the lights adjusted fairly high and then use the control to lower them depending on the load in the car. Most people do not understand how to use these controls and end up pointing the lights at the road or dazzling others so they are unsafe. True you can upgrade to brighter bulbs but then you need to adjust the lights lower down so you end up worse off. In my opinion in most Euro spec cars of any make do not modify you lights. Spend the effort cleaning the housings and projector lenses, keeping good connections on the wiring and finally adjusting the units perfectly. Anyway in most parts of Europe is illegal to modify them.
I've got LED's as low beam headlights in my E39 in facelift headlights . I used Philips LED's without a fan but with the copper cooling . I used the HID adapters to lock them . I glued those adapters to the back of the LED's .
@@NathansBMWWorkshop I had the xenon Hid 's before , they were indeed a little bit brighter . Been to a garage to adjust them and everything is fine when they tested them . The light amount is good and I've got no issues . Been on holiday with the car and i'm driving it to work every evening . No problem at all with those . You can adjust the bulbs with a little screw in a direction towards the reflector so the light output is good .
Nathan, do you think you can make a video about installing stock HID headlights and wiring instead of halogen headlights? Guys, please help me with likes if you would like to see video like that

Hey, got an e39 m5. Got my headlights apart for winter to fix broken adjusters. Just wondering what kinda projector you went with
Yellow = original = beautiful.
”If you drive with halogen lights, you are going to Die.” Epic 😂
Can you take a pic of the wiring for the halos. The black and white wires. I can't get it to work. Thanks

The bowls look burnt. It’s actually the chrome paint fading off.
you talked price. that's a give away. I just bought a 2002 530i with only 11500 miles that's right better than new, not even broken in.
Noticed the car is missing the mechanical fan. Heard of other people doing this. Do you recommend this?
