Samantak Sinha, an independent singer-songwriter from Kolkata has studied Music and Sound Production in London as a Charles Wallace India Trust Arts Scholar. Being on the introverted side of things, Samantak has been consistently writing, performing and publishing music independently and collaborating with musicians in the UK and in India. His musical inclination essentially veers towards Indie Music, Indie Folk, Alt Rock, South Asian Folk Music and the Bengali musical culture and these influences could be clearly felt and heard in his music. He recently joined Fiddler's Green.
Fiddler’s Green talks about folklore of the world through songs of the South Asian subcontinent, sonically connecting them with humane stories: of shires in Middle Earth, of deserts in West Africa, merging with the streets of Havana and Puerto Rico or the wild trekking trails of Nepal or even, the Appalachian mountains. Pan Asian folk forms like Bhatiyali, Baul, Fakiri, Bhadu, Tushu, Bihu, Goalpariya, Murshidi, Nepali Gandharva tunes, Sindhi Fakiri Qalams, Goan folk etc. freely mix with Celtic traditional tunes, Bluegrass standards, Jewish folk tunes, Afro-Cuban guaguancos and rumbas or manouche melodies from France… in an acoustic unplugged sound of the mandolin, nylon string guitar, ukulele, kazoo, tenor guitar and world percussions. A unique blend of different folk sub-genres… A very gentle and intelligent blend of Fakiri music from Bengal and Sindh with Bill Monroe and WB Yates. Songs close to a music lover’s heart, songs of the wild, songs of love…

The essentially pluralist, non-regionalist ethos that comes out in choosing, reconstructing and reconfiguring of the songs, breaking away from an insular Bengali cultural identity, is what every performer, in my limited understanding as a practitioner, should attempt to achieve. There is an organic purity that transpires throughout the production, without borrowed and replicated over-the-top embellishments. Pure joy of listening, this! Looking forward to more! ❤️
Sahana Bajpaie The very comment shows the depth of your feelings regarding music. A big shoutout from a Bangladeshi fan! What a great, great articulation!
This is what great bands are about - reinventing themselves every time someone new steps in. This is so mellifluous, Samantak. Wish you and Fiddler’s Green all the very best!
I wish Arko was there, but Samantak rocks too had a different flavour... Much love to everyone in the band

Where is Arko Mukherjee?
Where is arko ??
Nice..but missing Arko!!!
The greenery that fiddler's green evokes through this production, has reached even the last station of my heart . But still ,the essence that Arko Mukhearejee used to deliver, has been somewhere missed . Being an old school fan of this band I always look forward with them, but Arko da is really a major missing.
First view. But won't hit the thumbs up tab. Missing Arko here. ..
The authenticity is gone.
Arko Mukherjee was a far versatile vocalist for Friddler's Green. I am not saying Mr Sinha is somehow a poor vocalist n all,but his voice is quite softcore, doesn't suit with the basic folk essence the band Friddlers Green usually pertains. And to Mr Sinha,U performed far well before, the genre is not suiting you.
U mean Fiddler’s Green
