    Your video is distasteful to say the least. You are supposed to be reviewing a song, yet you spend much more time on attacking the artists. Judging peoples careers, mocking non-native English speakers, downright xenophobic remarks on artists' ethnicity and right to compete. This does not make you funny, it only exposes you as the simple-minded person you are. I see you look up to Nigel Farage, you love using his manner of derailing from subjects by resorting to superficial insults. I've got news for you! He is not funny and neither are you. I have reported your video, I hope more people follow.

    First - "If love WAS a crime" is correct. "WERE" is correct by older grammatical rules - because of something hypothetical. By new grammatical rules - WAS and WERE are both correct. This is written in the Cambridge English Textbook. Yes... check for yourself. Your grammar is outdated and your thoughts as well. About the rest... nobody cares about this nonsense. The song is pretty good and that's all.

    Eurovision has been using artists outsourced from other countries since close to the very beginning. Luxembourg and Monaco often employs artists from France (and many of the winners that represented those countries are from France).

    Overthinking of BONES and EQUINOX... Thank you! Let me help you with some more info, so you can overthink again. Not only the song, but the whole project is full of symbols that show the victory of good and light, over evil and darkness. It's a feast of Love over Death and much much more... The presence of the two Americans in the group shows that humanity is late in overcoming national borders and human differences.Their presence demonstrates that we must love beyond the bones, beyond the flesh, beyond the external traits such as color, religion ... The Eurovision logo also calls for the reunification of people. Every time I listen to this song I notice something new... Have you seen the logo of Equinox - it's designed so that it reads the same upside down as well - the metaphor of seeing beyond the letters and into the meaning; beyond the bones and into the soul! Everything in this song and project is smart and well thought through - from the meaning of the lyrics, through the voices that come from different nationalities and go from low to higher (darkness gives way to light), up to the smallest detail like the logo. Also the real message of that song comes, if you replaced the word "love" with the words ''live'' and "life" in the lyrics. Brilliant! The whole meaning of our existence explained in just three minutes. Whole universe gathered in only five vocals! Genius! Just a phenomenal song! Why Equinox? Where did the name come from? And here's some interesting information about the band's name from the producer : “That wasn’t the first idea for the name - it was something connected to the Fifth Element. There are four elements on the planet - fire, water, Earth and air. The Fifth missing element for life is SHE. My idea was to gather together all five elements with Zhana as the Fifth Element in the middle. In Equinox there is ‘equal’, i.e. ‘equality’, and ‘nox’ is night.The Equinox is the moment on which the night and day are equal. There is peace between the dark and the light, between Good and Evil. And after this day of Equinox, the days get longer. In other words this is the victory over the evil. And many of my friends professing other faiths, told me that the Vernal Equinox is a very important day in their cultures as well. And that was the moment when I realised that this is a day which unites the whole planet, all peoples and cultures. At the Equinox something happens in all of us and that's why for me is a highly powerful symbolism.“ ... This song is beyond this world. This is the only Eurovision song that can go through your flesh and bones and contact to your soul, and not just with your eyes and ears. To deny this song means to deny existence of life. MEGA BRUTAL SONG!

      I was surprised he paid more air time to San Marino's song than to the Bulgarian one in THE Bulgarian review. Confusion, much? Overthinking it, if you're not prepared and have nothing to say about a song, just don't upload a bad quality video about it!!!! Or first collect ENOUGH information for a full review. We know Israel is your favourite but please try to keep the quality of your videos consistent. ;) No hate, just a benevolent remark. :)

      We really wanted to do an entire video about San Marino. San Marino fascinates us! Why does it exist? Why do they bother to compete? Is Dan Marino, who played for the Miami Dolphins for 17 seasons, from there?

    Overthink, it seems you are not aware with the logo of Eurovision this year «All aboard», which is integrating and not dividing! The BG producer of the song knows all the singers from before and means that they, as a group, have the best combination of beautiful voices and it is their time to shine! Eurovision has no laws excluding the possibility to sing for another country as long as you burn for it. So enjoy the masterpiece and comment on the song if you are qualified for it😊Cheers!

    Nice video! Btw i have nothing against Americans representing Bulgaria as long as the song itself is Bulgarian. And it is - it's ethnic, full of folklore and Orthodox symbolism and yet it's modern. I'm not sure what's Belgian in the Belgian song apart from the nationality of the singer (same goes for the British,the German, the Estonian, the Finnish songs etc). I think the song is a stronger messenger than the nationality of the singers - they were obviously selected based on their talent and they are there for a reason.

      Teodora Trendafilova
      I agree 100%

    • @mirakjemo1768
      @mirakjemo1768 6 років тому +3

      Bulgarias song is crafted by:
      Borislav Milanov (Bulgaria)
      Trey Campbell (USA)
      Joacim Persson (Sweden)
      Dag Lundberg (Sweden)
      Belgiums song is crafted by:
      Laura Groeseneken (Belgium)
      Alex Callier (Belgium)
      Maxime Tribeche (France)
      I'm not picking sides here, but let's not kid ourselves. ESC is about teamwork beyond borders, it can be seen in choreographers, artists dancers, backing vocalists and so on. No need to try and lift one above the other.

    • @teodoratrendafilova7632
      @teodoratrendafilova7632 6 років тому +7

      If we are talking about who crafted the Bulgarian song - it's Borislav Milanov's 'brain child' as everyone calls it and it is produced by a company, that's based in Austria but is founded by him.
      However, I was trying to make a point against concentrating on the nationalities of the performers, which is kind of what you are saying as well. I didn't mean to lift one song above another, I really like the Belgian song! I was just illustrating my point - why do we think that the nationality of the team that's created and performing a song is what identifies it as Bulgarian, Belgian, German, Estonian, Spanish etc? What about the content of the song itself?

    • @mirakjemo1768
      @mirakjemo1768 6 років тому

      Teodora Trendafilova As music from around the world is easier to access and musicians take influences over the borders I really hope the specific sound of a country would be of less importance. It's fine if it's there but I don't have a problem with it if it's not.

    • @teodoratrendafilova7632
      @teodoratrendafilova7632 6 років тому +15

      My point is about the importance of the content. A simple example is - this song can be performed by 5 German people and it will still sound Bulgarian and they will still need to train to sing Bulgarian folklore before they can achieve the effects of this song. This song will always be Bulgarian and that's what makes me feel represented.
      Do we need ethnic songs in Eurovision? That's a question of personal taste. But are people right when he say that the song is not Bulgarian because there are two Americans singing it - no, definitely not. The song is Bulgarian, the effort is international, the message says it 'we love beyond our Bulgarian, American, Belgian etc bones'.
      Best wishes :))))

    The grammar remark- in songs it is common that the grammar can be wrong - there are several songs ( american) that have that "wrong" grammar . One of them is Metallica.... That's a common thing in poetry as well. Sorry for my grammar / spelling :)

    • @leniprof
      @leniprof 6 років тому +9

      I was a little girl when my English teacher told me, to not learn language from the songs because they are often grammatically incorrect. This is well-known, because the syllables of the words must match the melody of the song.

    • @matheya
      @matheya 6 років тому +3

      Lenny, true. In this case of Poly's song if she sings " if love were a crime" I think the "r" are too close together and it doesn't sound crisp. If you repeat it several times you will see it sounds ...mumbled.

    • @boyanpetrov5007
      @boyanpetrov5007 6 років тому +2

      True that. I remember a lesson in my Brtish English textbook back in the days, explicitly expaining that the song lyrics are allowed to deviate from the grammar for "artistic" reasons. So you are not quite right here, I am afraid my dear Overthinking it (said in lousy English accent)

  • @ludoedica

    Review was fun but I think you should rename your channel to "subjectively overthinking it". :D It's true the Bulgarian team are quite mysterious.... I'm skeptical if the supergroup definition but it shows how biased wikipedia editors are. They don't verify facts cause I've seen it too many times. Just don't trust wikipedia. It changes content based on "political" mood. Otoh, I have no doubt about Bulgarians' performance. Its gonna be high class. Everything else is a matter of taste. Concerning the song itself: it's influenced by orthodox singing, bulgarian folklore and I hear a pinch of alternative rock (maybe) in the acoustic version. The instrumental is amazing. It's a separate musical piece with its own universe. I listen to it very often like that. I disagree it's a dance track. The sound design is very interesting. I hear strange percussions, gentle guitar notes and many other interesting sounds. It seems to be synthetic but it's not if you listen carefully. The beat is 88 bpm which is deliberate. Symbolises double infinity. The video also shows pretty heavy symbolism in almost every shot. Not to mention the last few shots, OMG!!!! In conclusion, it's a very interesting musical piece. It sounds easy to listen to but it's hard to sing. The way they sing the last refrain for example - it's overwhelming emotion. That note, omg!!!! I don't know why it sounds like that. I guess it's the voice blending and emotion they give, but it does give me shivers. I hope they do well. They deserve it.

    • @ludoedica
      @ludoedica 6 років тому +11

      Whoah, forgot to mention that we' ve got more stuff in the instrumental. First, we have a snippet ot instrumental version of the Bulgarian folk song Devoiko Mari Hubava right at the start of the instrumental. This motif keeps repeating itself throughout the instrumental. I think it's played by a kaval - a Bulgarian flute. The folk notes at the end symbolise another legendary Bulgarian folk song - Izlel e Delio Haidutin, which was personally handpicked by Carl Sagan and specially recorded for Voyager 5 mission that was supposed to carry records of all human cultures (it was sent to space in the 1970s to "travel" and contact alien life). You NEED to check this story. It's super interesting!!!!

    oh, San Marino is not the only xase where the singer is foreigner. Norway's Alexander Rybak is actually from Belarus (although he has lived in Norway for most of his life, so he could be considered norwegian). Going to a Eurovision history class you will know that Johnny Logan, the only singer to win twice, is not from the country he represented, Ireland, and half of the participants of the country he's born at, Australia, are foreigners as well (Guy Sebastian is Malaysian while Dami Im is South Korean)

      Hold up Cristian. It's true that all those people are immigrants, but they become citizens and grew up in their adopted countries. Contrast that with the two Americans in Equinox who have no Bulgarian roots, have never been to Bulgaria, and may not be able to find Bulgaria on a map. This isn't about place of birth, it's about whether the singer is just a hired gun or has real love for the country he or she is representing.

    When somebody comments on a song even if it is not his taste, even if he wants to make a joke, he can’t analyze it in a biased way! Especially if he expects his audience to respect and trust him! Let’s check all the grammar mistakes BG has done so far, the singers are not so popular, two of the singers are x factors but why are they participating in more than one x factor, why Eurovision allows some foreigners to represent a country, lets check now Wikipedia and search there for some innacuracies??!! If this is not a biased attitude, then what it is? Just a retoric question😊

    Whats with all the hate? The idea that Eurovision is about the talent in the countries that compete and thus shouldn't deviate much from the talent within the country isn't an unpopular opinion, even if I don't necessarily totally agree myself. It's not even hate! Hate is "These singers suck and their faces suck and they should jump off a cliff" not "we have some minor criticisms of the way delegations go about choosing their artists". They DO talk about the song for the last three minutes and praise it and the talent of the singers. They even acknowledge with the cut to Celine Dion that approaching talent from outside the country has been a Thing for a while.
    Lots of commenters either didn't watch the whole video ("you never talked about the song") or misunderstood it entirely ("hate towards the artists! They have the incorrect opinion!"). Good god.

      Been hoping for them to do so. I guess it's not enough of a bookies favourite to have something tackled about it? Hopefully it's not because of it. Maybe it's the inability to understand the song? Even the translation of this song is wildly variable from a local authority to a local authority.

    Hello,
    Can you please explain why your video for Netta , Toy is so positive and you speak very nice about her project ( love the song) and this for Bulgaria is quite negative?
    I don't understand why???
    Please watch both videos and see the different.
    Is very upsetting...😔😔😔😔 for Bulgarians.
    Thank you!

    • @overthinkingit
      @overthinkingit  6 років тому

      We don't consider this a negative review. We said it's a unique song and speculated that these powerhouse singers could dominate the jury vote the way Dami Im did a couple years back. We said "Bones" has a good chance of winning. The closest we come to negative is when we talked about the Americans being brought in to sing, and that's our two cents you are welcome to disagree with. We like "Bones" and we're sorry that people perceive this video as an attack.
      And sure, Israel is one of our favorite songs this year which makes us pretty vanilla, actually.
      Thanks for watching, and good luck to Bulgaria!

      If you can "go deep inside your soul" and imagine how we all are children of the earth, we are composed of the same material, you may understand the meaning of these two people being there. The one is almost Bulgarian already, as he often writes songs for Bulgarian singers. Regarding these things we don't suffer of prejudice and we see only the talent in others. In some environments in our country, people are also dissatisfied with this, but these are mostly primitive thinking people. "Equinox" sing about love in its purest sense, beyond earthly and material things..., so be above these things. Sorry for my English :)

    The Bulgarian fans need to take a chill pill. I like most of their entries, Voda was my personal favourite in 2007, 2008 & 2011 & 2013 were among my favourites of those years despite not qualifying. Poli Genova is one of the best artists ever in Eurovision and I was over the moon when she finished 4th, I was not the biggest fan of the song in 2017 but I dig why it finished above 2016. But some of the most extreme fans were so bitter with just missing on the victory that their comments on anything to do with Salvador were really nasty. Even almost 1 year on their still direct their bitterness towards the organizers of the 2018 contest. This year the Bulgarian have a good song but I have the feeling that they are trying too hard, a bit like Russia 2016.

      Lenny Vassileva I agree with you, it seems like Eurovision can bring the worst of people, totally missing the point why Eurovision was created in the first place. But the criticism of this year organization has really annoyed me. It has been almost a year let it go and enjoy this year, Portugal waited half a century to win, no doubt almost every country competing will have a chance to win it a some point. ☮

    • @leniprof
      @leniprof 6 років тому +2

      Let me admit you honestly, and I'm a little bit of the critics ... I'm a little bit annoyed by this deification of Sobral, as he is alive Glory to God. Salvador said "music is a feeling, not LED screens and pyroeffects", and you keep lights and fires, but the LED isn't there because of "Salvador said". I'm not hater, I am only person who like good music, no matter from where is it. Cheers :)

      Imo the most hillarious thing was that the Bulgarian voting jury didn't give a single pt to the other two main competitors in 2017- Portugal and Italy. So much about being an art song contest. Pathetic. But I think Portugal also did the same. Only Italians were generous enough to give pts to their competitors...and they paid the price.

    • @leniprof
      @leniprof 6 років тому

  • @pedroberrios440

    i think that the singers must be from the country of origin they represent because that gives more weight to their participation since looking for the other foreign countries takes away a bit of value from that countries and lack of respect for their artists and the people represented or that they are residents of that country and live there

    • @aliciabudal1359
      @aliciabudal1359 6 років тому +5

      This is long ago not an issue for Eurovision as long as you burn for some idea. The idea of the song is to love each other no matter whom you are and were do you come from and this group conveys the message in a beautiful way💕All aboard- the logo of this year😊

    • @leniprof
      @leniprof 6 років тому +5

      This competition is trying to unite people, different countries and cultures, but unfortunately this isn't understood by many people. When Celine Dion sings for Switzerland, that's good, but when Bulgaria does the same thing /and that's according to the rules BTW/ - that's not good. When Poli Genova sings in Bulgarian - nothing understands, but when Bulgarian song is in English - why is it in English instead of Bulgarian. It looks like what we do, you will never be happy.
