    Two of my PCs are based around Haswell Xeons, E3-1265L v3 (with a GTX 1660 Super) and E3-1285L v3 (with RTX 2060 Super). They work well with 1080p monitors. I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 5 5600 as my main rig, with marginal uplift in performance. These are the CPU-Z reports:
    R5-5600 - 610.7 / 4845.4

      @@SeeJayPlayGames 🙂 Hi Jay, from other benchmarks it looks like it runs close to first gen i7-870, its definitely better than a Core2Quad cause Core2Quad is missing alot of cpu instruction sets. I7-870 is a bit cheaper tho cause theres just more of them plus u have X3470 Xeon which is the server variety, whereas on FX u dont have as many options so you have to pay more, the market punishes you for old school AMD ☺ its kinda like your itching to buy an old school porsche 911 or Ferari Testarosa

      @@MrSamadolfo That's not awful. I do have a reference point for that kind of performance.
      I built (well, refurb'ed) my roomie a PC that I got for basically free in a trade deal, a Dell Precision T3500. It had a Windows 10 on a 320GB HDD, 4GB of RAM (2x2GB) and a Xeon W3503 (2C/2T 2.4GHz). It had some horrible Fermi Quadro I think for display.
      Switched the Quadro out with my old Radeon HD7770 GHz, upgraded it to 12GB RAM (3x4GB), and Xeon X5650 (6C/12T 2.66-3.06GHz). Asked him why he didn't use it... he said it lacked wireless peripherals, so I got him all the wireless peripherals (intel WiFi/BT card, mouse, kb, gamepad) and in exchange I'd get his guitar and amp because I had to go out of pocket for new gear... and he DOESN'T EVEN USE IT. I'm kind of offended, TBH. Was thinking at one point of giving him an SSD upgrade but WHY?

  • @Guts3570
    @Guts3570 4 місяці тому +1

    I've been using this for almost 11 years and simply upgraded my graphics card over time when needed. It still runs everything at playable framerates. Some cpu intensive games might be as low as 30 fps, but in general cpu intensive games aren't usually fast paced and it hasn't been an issue. Hearts of iron 4 after 1945 is pretty unplayable, but that's true for most computers.
    I did finally order an upgrade though. it's going to feel good to finally get rid of the cpu bottleneck.

      4th gen is amazing for budget PC performance! I would probably avoid 6th gen and jump to AM4. You can get a 2600 for the same price as an i7 6700. In the UK at least.

      I'm still rocking a 5ghz i7 7700k and rx 6600. Not really all that different. CPU is a little long in the tooth. But at least I'll get my money's worth when I upgrade it. That's how I see it, at least. Ryzen 1 dropped a few months after I got my 7700k I think. We've come a long way since then. If we jumped to even a budget Ryzen 5500 we'd see pretty decent gains.

      🙂 i have a Core 2 Quad Zero Gen Rig, a first gen i7, and fourth gen i7, a sixth gen i7, an 11th gen i7, and a 12th gen i7, right now for price and performance Im seeing the Fourth Gen 4core 8thread is sweet spot those chips are 30 bucks, First Gen is a bit cheaper on the chips but First Gen Asus Motherboard can be as high as 75 to 120 bucks. I also recommend checking out X79 and X99 if u like to tinker and experiment. Also if u see some of the older FX Chips on a nice Retail Motherboard pick them up if they are cheap.

      give 6th (and 7th) gen a miss, they're only a marginal improvement over 4th... but AM4 is very viable as well as 8th gen intel (which was really the next "jump" because they went to 6-core i5 and 8-core i7)

    Something to note for viewers that maybe dont know about nvidia driver cpu overhead.
    The 4770 or 4790 paired with an AMD gpu will perform much better than with similar range nvidia one.
    It aint gonna compete with Ryzen 3 3300X or i3 12100f, the more modern 4 c 8t cpus, but when paired with an RX6600 or 5600XT you arent gonna miss out on much performance, as you would with a 3050 8GB or a 2060 6GB.
    And never overpay for the quad cores. If its not real cheap jsut get a R5 3600 and a b450 mobo and ddr4 ram thats diret cheap now.

    This CPU has been with me for over a decade.
    I'm still gaming on an ancient i7 4770 + GTX 1070 and even though it still does pretty well with old games and recent low demanding games, it can't handle games like Squad, Ready Or Not, and Warzone on the lowest settings.
    I've been postponing buying a new gaming PC for at least 4 years despite being very limited on the amount of games I could run on this build... But now that I want to get into PVE games this tech is just too old for new games. Plus GTA 6 it's comming out next year and sht...
    IMO you should just save more money and buy a better CPU.

    This is the wrong video. You don't need to waste time with all this data. Anyone watching this stuff knows the chip is fine. The question is what it should cost. There are no bad parts, only had prices. I picked up a 4790(non-k) on an asus Z97, 16Gigs Ram and a GTX 980 for $110 shipped off ebay, of coarse that was a good option. Bazzite is the newest Linux console-like experience that I've heard of. Also I understand that Batocera 40 just released. You hardly need 16GB of RAM; 8GB or even 4GB should be sufficient for pure emulation. But for running Windows titles, of course you're going to want 16. Besides, RAM is pretty cheap now, especially DDR3, although it may be going up? IDK.
      If you're not trying to emulate heavily 3D accelerated consoles (like PS2/GameCube/Dreamcast and later) but rather stick with the classics, then you can probably get away WITHOUT a video card. iGPU might be good enough for N64 and earlier?

    • @SeeJayPlayGames
      @SeeJayPlayGames 2 місяці тому

      @@Fufu0478 yes, getting away from the asymmetrical dual channel setup you got there should improve things a little. You should try to have 2 8GB sticks at 1600MT/s (PC3-12800 unbuffered). I say that without knowing what exactly you have right now (other than 10GB - and there's a couple of different ways to get there).
      But the GPU is going to make the biggest difference. RX 590 is about the same as a GTX 1060, which is a nice (~60%) improvement over a GTX 770. I'd actually go higher like an RX 5700XT or a GTX 1080, or maybe a 1660 Super or RTX 2060, if you want to feel a bigger difference. And honestly, anything higher than that will be bottlenecked by the CPU, so no point going faster than those.

  • @chillinlee
    @chillinlee 6 місяців тому +3

    The vast majority of gamers will not notice much improvement once you get past 60 FPS. This is especially true in one player games. As some point, additional FPS is just a flex and nothing more. Presenter is spot on when it comes to budget GPUs: RX 580 8gb or the GTX 1660 super are both excellent choices, but the 1660 is better.

      tell me you've never used a high refresh monitor for e-sports titles without telling me. A framerate of 60fps comes to an update every 16.66ms, whereas 144Hz is 6.944 ms. A nearly 10ms difference, a hundredth of a second. That doesn't sound like much but when split seconds count for competitive gaming, then yeah, there's a difference. Not that my old ass is a competitive gamer, but I understand the need. Warning, though - I've heard that you can't go back. Once you upgrade, you're spoiled for 60Hz anymore. I have a 75Hz panel, so I'm not there really... but that's 13.33ms. Not a huge difference.
      That being said, for single-player and/or slower-paced games, you are absolutely correct. In fact, if you're using a gamepad, you can probably be happy at 30fps, as long as the frame pacing is rock solid and not jumping around. Mouselook at 30fps feels horrible, 60 is better for that, and the higher the better, really.

      My E5-2650v4 paired with a RX 480 works wonders on RPCS3 hammering on only 15% usage on the CPU
      Given that the broadwell architecture that the V4 Xeons are based on is just a MARGINALLY improved Haswell architecture (4th Gen)
      I reckon it'll work just fine so long as you manage your expectations, you've only got 4 cores so when emulating your multi-tasking needs to be kept to a minimum (if at all) even my 12 Core sees high usage when im talking with the guys on discord whilst having a few tabs and a emulator open

      not bad, but NVIDIA discontinued driver support for the GTX 700 series a while ago so you'll have to get an older driver and that's it, that's all you get. Still should run games but there may be weird glitches in the newest titles (newer than driver). 16GB of 1600MT/s RAM is ideal for that processor but 1333 should *work*. Is that 2x4GB modules so it's at least dual channel? Or is it 1x8GB? If so I'd get another module because dual channel will help your framerate a bit; definitely want to have more than 8GB for best results, and so you don't have to shut things down to play a game.
