Like the sound of that Ibanez. What strings are you using?
I’m going to the Marcustico site next up and will get back to you.

The problem is....they are soooooooooooooo expensive that they are really beyond reach unless you gig routinely and make money at jazz

Ok, I see the problem. The Marcustico sounds very believable. However (I use a Warwick Alien with Labella flats) I find that an acoustic instrument with a pickup rarely works on stage. As soon as the drummer kicks in your too quiet. Turn up the volume and all the subtleties are lost and feedback rears it’s ugly head. I have returned to an Ibanez Mikro pj bass. All the guys in the band love it and remark on how good it sounds. I don’t bother with the acoustic now unless it’s a drummerless trio!

yes, you've intuited the real issue; to upright bass or not to upright bass? It's become the symbol of jazz for whatever reason so while everyone else on the band stand is carrying modern portable stuff only the drummer and bassist are hauling difficult gear to use, set-up, and hear over everything else. And if the drummer brings loud cymbals and has a forceful touch ? Oye e vay! I love the upright sound but honestly, using my old 65 precision w/ flats I get better results in almost every aspect of performance.

@@jazzman1954 as did many before us. Monk Montgomery, Bob Cranshaw, and Steve Swallow come to mind immediately.
