- There was one person who discovered how springs behave, how cables are analogous to arches, and, from his work with microscopes, saw and defined the word "cell". That was Robert Hooke. In this video, I tell you a bit about his amazing life, how we went to the same high school (albeit at very different times) and, I suggest we'd all do better if we looked at the world with the inquisitive nature and perceptive thought of Robert Hooke.
I'm Paul Kassabian. I'm a structural engineer and I am a Principal at a firm in Boston, MA. I taught graduate students at MIT for nine years and currently teach on/off at Harvard's Graduate School of Design (GSD). These are videos based on my years of teaching structures to students. Enjoy!
I love how happily you teach the topics.
Thanks!
hi Paul, just wanted to say that i'm enjoying your videos immensely, it's all new ground for me and i find your explanations super clear and informative, they are adding some new colours to my appreciation of the world, thank you so much!
Studying for my arch licensing exam here in Canada. Really enjoying these videos.
Paul, you could be the heir of the late, great J.E. Gordon. Really enjoying your videos and hope it catches on.
I loved his books and still refer to them from time to time...thanks!
Great and informative about mr “Rubber” Hooke :-)
Excellent! Thanks for sharing and best of luck.
Many thanks!
Paul would you do an analysis of the St.Louis arch.
I thought Newton despised Hooke.... 🤔
Loving yer vids.... I'm not a "maths" person but I absorb content like this as if I were a sponge.... 🙄😂
Yup - and that would have been a fascinating reality show on tv...
