The part where I would disagree is on Butcher, his character wasn't about helping innocent people, it was about revenge.
Ye he just wanted revenge against homelander
Stopping sups from hurting innocent was his core motivation. If but her is justa maddog oit for revenge why is that remotely interesting. Wasted potential
@@jedibrooks7235 it was interesting until they changed what happened to his wife. They initially kept it ambitious as to whether she was raped by Homeland or consented to hookung up with him. If she had consented that throws a monkey wrench into Butcher's whole motivation and takes his character down a rarely seen road, instead he's just made into your typical struggling hero.
@@jedibrooks7235 No it was specifically stated that Butcher wants revenge against Homelander "killing" his wife than to help the innocent
Yea I thought it was made pretty clear that butcher uses sups collateral damage & danger to innocents as an excuse & a way to recruit help for his personal vendetta against homelander & his disdain for sups
Super hearing is a very hard power to write consistently.
it should be written that the user has to concentrate on their hearing to use it
@@SMacCuUladh Agreed.
@@SMacCuUladhSuperman and Lois does it pretty well by doing exactly that
I hear you.
😀
Homelander superhearing is more op than his lazer eyes ngl
I think the point of butcher's character is that you slowly realize that he does not give a fuck about anyone but himself He was even almost willing to betray his own wife He lives for revenge and he lives to be the strongest
It's so obvious that Butcher's #1 priority is himself. You're spot on... That's why the scenes he gets soft and tries to help Hughie carry so much weight. I don't know how people don't understand this.
i agree with your assesment, but starting from season 1 episode 3ish, there is a LOT OF ROOM for where they could take him. even right upto the last episode of season 1, he had a chance of not being a worthless selfish fuckwit... but nope. that final explosion scene, and ALL OF FUCKING SEASON 2 sealed the deal. hes garbage, just as bad as the fuckwits he hates
The whole point of butcher is that he's kind of the same as homelander He's not altruistic He only goes about power and revenge
The point of Butcher is that he's selfish. His #1 priority is himself. That's why the scenes where he gets soft and helps Hughie carry so much weight.
i think his purpose was to be the foil
lex luther vs superman, butcher vs homelander... except butcher molds over the episodes. he starts off SEEMING like he is doing something, like the boys have a purpose... but it really just melts into nothingness. he isnt a character, he isnt even really a person
@@vissermatt1058 yo that's brilliant, I never thought about it that way, butcher is kind of like lex luthor That's a really interesting take
I feel like Season 3 had the most disappointing letdowns for all the characters though. I could rant for hours on what season 3 did to them.
Oooooh boy.
@@liamphibiawait till bro sees season 4
Homelander didn’t fly the baby away, it literally just teleported, also wdym butchers character is about saving innocent people LMAO, that’s never been his motivation, he literally beat mesmoir to death a few episodes earlier
His character is not about saving innocent people its more stopping supes from doing it, and people the people he hurts are just in his way to achieving his goal is what I believe.
Mesmer was a piece of shit tho
I’m sorry, but the baby being saved by Homelander was undoubtedly retconned, so the writers could make their Trump Allegory seem more evil, and less powerful.
@@speeddemon5339 no it wasn’t, there was never any indication of Homelander saving it in the first place, all we know is the baby was found miles away
A train has heart issues when he runs not just conveniently for the plot. Everything else is spot on though

Yeah season 2 is a masterclass on inconsistency in psychology, motivation, physics and general common sense.
18:21 starlight’s powers can only be used around a active light source not electricity, and the van behind them had already been damaged so there no was no hope in turning it on
That doesnt make sense at all. Electricity is literally a light source. If her power is to use photons she would be able to just use the sun and every light that hits her proximity. Including "star light". But apparently her power revovlves around using the engery of moving electrons. A.k.a electricity.
@@nostalji75 electricity isn’t a artificially powered lightsource,
@@pilkers2 it can be excatly that if you ad a lightbulb. The emitted light is just the release of engery by electricity. As far as I understood her fictional abilities she is able to transform electric energy. (You see her creating forcefield and increasing the light intensity) So in Annies case SHE is the light bulb. She transforms electricity into light and kinetic power.
@@nostalji75 well the show established she needs a lit light source like a lamp or floodlights, whether the science disagrees with it or not, so the criticism doesn’t work
@@pilkers2 You claim they established she "needs a lit light source like a lamp or floodlight". Thats not true, is it? You see her using her powers in an underground sewer and an open field. No "light lamp or floodlight" anywhere closeby. Your making shit up, to make sense of the bs the writers are severing you...
Entertainment organisations always test out the water how smelly they can season the bs they are severing you. Mindlessly consuming npcs like you are the reason the quality of products we are severed is steadily declining. Please be more critical.

Season 2 was such a downgrade

@@tobsonasanya4765 Yes it was

You guys are acting like the first season was amazing. It wasn't as bad but it had a lot of holes and dumb moments too
If Americans saw a character whose superhero name is "Stormfront" without her having any weather related powers, and mistook her for a Good Guy, it only goes to show they need better history lessons. German viewers heard "Stormfront" and immediately said, "Oh dear, she's a Neo-Nazi isn't she?"
The show does make a lot of people look really stupid in all sorts of ways.
@@Tsyroc That's German history... That's like saying Germans need better history lessons for not knowing the people in the Black Panther.
@A_Random_Ghost stormfront isn't some obscure piece of German history its a neo nazi website that was created by an American and is pretty well known, or at least it used to be, so yes it is kinda dumb that people didn't pick up on the very obvious refrence. Also, your comparison is kinda silly. I wouldn't expect anyone to know the people in Black Panther, let alone need to be taught better history on it because they dont exist. they're fictional people, from a fictional country, with a fictional history, from a comic book.
Idk man, I would sooner assume that, like the rest of the show, there was no rhyme or reason for anything the writers do. Anyway, she literally shoots lightning out of her hands
You answer your own question at the end, the reason we can't have nice things is because there are far too many people willing and waiting to consume next product without the slightest thought to the quality of what they're consuming. Who cares if it makes sense, it's a shiny bauble and that's all that matters. The genre is dead. It's time Hollywood left its corpse alone.
This is literally happening to the gaming industry. A lot of games come out not finished or just stay broken and people buy them anyway.
The part about black noir laying on the rooftop in all black camo in broad daylight was hilarious 😂 😂 You make some good points and overall this is a great video! One thing i would suggest is maybe give us a warning before you include spoilers from the comic ( i know about black noir’s history in the comics but when you mentioned it i thought people who only follow the show wouldn’t appreciate it), just my 2 cents!
Totally forgot to add spoiler warnings!!!!! Thank you for the reminder . Hope you enjoyed it took ages to make
Turns out in season 3 the baby butcher blew up was a supe so it would have survived either way since they make supes indestructible when it’s convenient
This has been the most irritating thing for me. Even people who only have a cursory knowledge of superheroes knows they're not all invincible, and that they have established strengths and weaknesses. Making everyone invincible is just stupid.
Also they say the power manifests when entering puberty so the indestructible and lazer baby dont make sense
@@Original-Phantom they lied, the power is from the moment compound v is injected
The scene where they need the car to get to the hospital reminds me of DnD where the Player Characters get distracted with an NPC and each character wants the scene to go a certain way then one gets impatient and kills the npc because it's easy even though they are supposed to be the heroes and then after trying to justify the decision as if it was a righteous choice even though they could have just taken the ride with the npc but they wanted the vehicle and were trying desperately to take it despite the dungeon master trying to subtly let the players know that they aren't supposed to have a vehicle for the campaign.
What I am saying is that the scene seemed improvised rather than having a script and being properly directed as a lot of this show is...
'The Boys' should be titled 'The Ends justify the Means'
Homelander didn't kill the baby, you learn later in the season the baby had V and can teleport
Well butcher didn't know that back then.
why are yall suprised. this is the same guy who was about to kill ryan. the same guy who used a baby has a laser beam, and putting it directly in the aim of gunfire, not even knowing if the baby was bulletproof. this dude doesnt not care about killing kids.
Wait the fuck?? Are you serious???
Hot take:Have Homelander detonate the bomb with super speed and trick Butcher into believing He murked the baby meanwhile Homelander has fun breaking Butcher throughout the season
Season 3 was a banger and can’t wait for season 4 after that ending. Amazing character development.

Season 3 Final episode Went Full Marvel Mode
can you also do a video on s3, i feel the events in s3 do not have any repercussions and does not change the world in any way
I think the thing with A-trains heart condition is its only a problem after he uses his powers. In most scenes where he doesnt have it, he hasnt used his powers.
Season 3 Final Episode Went Full Marvel Mode
I agree BUT I did not go into this show expecting the plot to have 'sense'. The reason I had such low expectation due to hearing the show runners report that they were using this show to attack Trump Supporters. Storm Front was brought in especially so that the plot could frame Trump supporters for being racists--remember the guy who was 'indoctrinated' by watching the super popular Storm Front videos and memes. While I was an X-Man fan growing up, I lost interest in them and their convoluted storylines, so I started reading the Wild Cards series overseen by George R.R. Martin. In that storyline (across 40 books or so) the characters are most important. The authors spend a great amount of time delve into the character's motivation. Not just displaying their talents. Would this series make a good film or series? Not these days. Theses days writers (and I use that term loosely) don't have the imagination to adapt these books. Without the writing talent/skill all today's 'writers' do is self-insert stories that have little to no connection to the source--Witcher, Rings of Power and so many others--material. Still, my verdict is, IF you want good Superhero stories read Wild Cards.
They have said they want to mock Trump supporters?
@@s66s46 Yes. They said that. Indeed they point to both Homelander and Storm Front (the actual name of a NAZI news paper) are both in the show only to mock Trump and his supporters. Sorry, I thought everyone knew.
@@s66s46 Yeah, they also make it pretty obvious.
@@s66s46most modern tv shows and movies do. Even if its not meant to be political propaganda (although some Im sure are) at the end of the day, most writers and showrunners tend to be college educated left leaning people, so making "conservative" capitalist businessmen, politicians, supporters, etc the bad guys is just an easy thing for them to put in the story. Its like when you see mid tier fantasy stories in anime, games, books, etc where the church in the world is actually evil. Its just a cop out because its such an easy and safe thing to write about, and make a antagonist with.
this is all dipsht seth rogan's small brain influence on the show -- season 1 was 8 of 10 but this Stormfront character will prevent me from watching season 2 -- the mind that created this stupid character doesn't deserve my money [ fake laugh ]
The dumbest part with A-Train in Season 2 is when he’s told he’s being kicked out of the Seven, after having just had a conversation with Starlight about how he knows she leaked Compound V to the press, and for some reason doesn’t leverage that against her to maintain his position. The only information Starlight has against him is that he killed his girlfriend, which no one in the Seven gives a shit about. And all he has to do to maintain his position is say “how is Starlight able to be a member when she was the one who leaked Compound V?” I barely understand how character motivations work in media but even that was the most blatant example of the writers having no idea who these characters are or how to write them.
Honestly didn’t see what was wrong with season 2 but I see what you mean with the points you bring. It did start to become less serious than it was from the first season and started to focus more on dark political humor and trying to keep its neutrality. I think many of the characters would of worked if the other characters around them treated each other with a bit more courtesy to not make it blatantly obvious they all just wanna kill or belittle each other for pushed in humor. Season 3 manages to double down on it and blows so many expectations
They have these plot holes because the writers put so much focus on the weird disturbing sex scenes smh
It feels like everything you said about stormfront was exactly what they were going for lol when she got blasted back to speaking German was the best thing lol

You gonna do a video on Season 3? loved this one
Season 2 existed just to be a thinly veiled insult toward everyone who doesn't agree with #themessage. Season 1, even with its flaws, had me really interested to see where things went, thinking the show would actually be about the boys killing superheroes like they seemed to be going for. Season 2 left me questioning if the show has been bad from the beginning.
Very true. I'm rewarching it and I remember exactly why s2 pissed me off so much after a stellar s1.
That Will Smith clip you keep using is so funny and accurate to how I feel about inconsistent characters.
Its just perfect
I'm new here but am binge watching your videos. They're so good. Please don't switch to reviewing games or doing group chats. Your reviews rock, thanks 👍
You were absolutely on the ball about Stormfront. Horrible character.
This channel was literally created for a person like me I almost completely agree with everyone of you're videos.
Can you review season3 of the boys i want to know your thoughts
Damn, I came out of season 2 thinking it was mostly solid inspite of a few flaws. But you’re pointing out flaws I didn’t even notice.
Don't think just consume product and then get excited for next product.
I haven't seen season 2 yet. Just downloaded it. Anyways, I will say this. The only thing I have been waiting for since the first episode of season 1 is for the gruesome deaths of every member of the team. They set it up like that was the plot. Everything else is just filler, and it was already getting annoying by the end of season 1. Screw character development, at least in the heroes. They are supposed to be murdered. The only one I care about developing is the main guy who's gf was killed. I want to see him evolve into a tough killer, to develop the strength to do what needs to be done. I don't need to see a humanisaztion of the monsters he is meant to kill. A little insight into there lives is okay. Just so it makes them more human, shows what they actually have to lose, so we can enjoy it that much more when they actually die.
However, the show found a cash cow. It doesn't want to let them die. Just the fact that you are talking about these characters, and they are still alive, is annoying enough to make me not want to even bother watching season 2. How long does it take to kill a few superheroes? I bever wanted a soap opera. I wanted an action packed brutal revenge story.
What a meathead
worst of all when a bullet hits the water it will most certainty disintegrate before it comes close to hitting anything (confirmed on Mythbusters)😁. this is assuming he was even able to hit a moving target on a speeding boat.
I stopped watching after S3 E5. My sense of it is that Kripke's ideological commitment / paycheck needs indicated it likely wasn't going to get better.
I think there's a lot of power in dumb jokes. 'Wasting' time on a character just to show they don't have redemption, or setting them up for a dumb joke is funny. I feel like it's making fun of self-serious superhero 'character studies', which do not need further glorification.
I have my own gripes with the show, and I agree that there a bit too much suspension of disbelief needed to follow the writing, but I would welcome it to become dumber tbh
Thoughts on S3?
The creators have turned it all into a giant meme. I do understand where you are coming from and I also think you have too much love for the original idea. I applaud you for finding the right words to describe the literal butchery that modern day shows sometimes look like. They show they can pull something off, and then they take it too far, riding the wave of their first success.
Yup

I giggled all the way through this! I didn’t realize how many plot holes there were in season 2! How about a season 3 breakdown?

This is so much more important when season 3 dropped
Why redeem him? Did you forget the main theme of the series?
That's an L take on Brook's part I think, but the rest of his thoughts are quality.
His thoughts on Butcher and Homelander are absolutely ridiculous. I agree with the rest of his points tho

Its all a matter of extremes, the whole premise of the show is extreme, I mean people with super powers, where do you start to make it consistent?
you have decent takes but ill have to disagree with this one

THE KIMIKO saga was the fucking worst the songs and dances were cringe
Hey, i really like your videos, i hope you'll allow me the chance to give my opinion here. At the very beginning, you said this is a story about the evil, powerful The Seven, and the innocent victims who try to take them down. Idk if you said victims, but you definitely said innocent. The thing is, even from season 1, i don't see how you could watch this show and label the boys [the actual group of characters] as innocent. They are shown to be getting their hands very dirty to fight back even as early as season 1. Even hughie, the innocent one, murders Translucent in the first few episodes. They're textbook anti-heroes. They're not meant to be innocent and 100% good
I liked that Stormfront came from Portland.
Man, this show fell off so hard.
Seasons 2 and 3 are a parody of season 1.
It hurts even more because none of the plot points set up in season 1 are followed in a satisfying way and everything new they try to do is stupid (Hugie, Starlight, Deep, Stormfront, Kimiko, Butcher, Maeve) or cool in theory but horribly executed (Homelander, Soldier Boy, A Train, Noir, M.M.).
God, that last episode of season 3 was just trash.
I dont think Homelander character was destroyed. He fucked Stormfront in an alley where no one is around them. Maeve probably had a back up plan in case Homemander would have destroyed the phone or killed her. He is not "smart" and he is very impulsive so making him do bad decision or behaviour is part of the character and makes sense.
I think this is mainly a case of good writers getting poached by other shows. It happened to Rick & morty pretty bad.
Compare Stormfront to Weston from sons of Anarchy, yes he’s the bad guy but he also has understandable motivation that drives his characters actions beyond just being a racist.
Season 3 critique?
I loved the boys season one, but one of the best things. I had so much identified with boys, people with no superpowers going against impossible. It was empowering! But season two.. Well, meh.
I did think it was pretty hilarious that as soon as she says white genocide Homelanders reaction shot is great. It’s like Starr was the audience in that moment 😂
I want video about 4th season.
1) Since when is The Deep "a complex character"?
2) It's established from the start that basically all of The Seven are incompetent. Black Noir just happens to be the most competent among those incompetent assholes, and that's not a high bar to clear. Expecting him to be a Batman-level ninja is just unrealistic.
3) Do you seriously want an explanation as to why a Nazi is a Nazi? Lmao.
The deep literary went into a deep depression... 😅 after getting kicked out of the seven, and would of been a nice character to show how people feel about how they look and about being confident in themselves. But instead they just started making fun of him over and over again.
For point 3. Yes I do. Im sorry but cartoonishly evil racist characters are boring and uninteresting. The only purpose they serve is an easy person for the audience to hate on because obviously most people aren't gonna side with the racist neo nazi. I never expected this show to be some God tier peak GoT level deep writing but I would expect it to be a bit deeper than "erm celebrity supes are actually bumbling idiots and nazi bad" it just feels lazy, too safe, and easy. Especially for a show that's supposed to be more edgy and out there like this.
bro I respect what you made but I don't think it's affordable
IDK, I had much bigger problems with just about everything the show did than what you detailed here. I mean, yeah, those are problems, but there's just so much bullshit in every season it's hard to separate it out.
Season 2 was being written during the infancy of Trump so the went full political tilt and even more so with Season 3
Are you retarded? The Boys was always political.
You forget, some people are just too far to gone. Pluss this is dark comedy show
Literrrrllllly, a fun review
Quite apt you describe it as "litter."
i like all u said except about relating to Hughie. Hughie has been BY FAR the WORST character in the show even in season 1. u think hed grow some fucking nuts after killing Translucent but he doesnt and he never does
I think they did a pretty good job with how they portrayed a civilian killing a superhero, though I know why you say that, like by the end of season 1 and season two I was screaming at my TV asking "How are you still such a bitch"
Hughie is the character with the most ball, any other civilians would have broken down before killing translucent
He literally Fought HOMELANDER AND SAVED Butcher and Soldier boy....
He grew balls
They wasted this from the first goddamned season. They left out all the CIA and backroom politics as well as the Boys themselves actually having superpowers and they figured that it should be about vigilantes.... what the hell did they do?

the boys is amazing and while this season may not have been as great as the 1st, i truly believe you are over criticizing
You're angry the sexual predator didn't get a redemption arc? That's pretty fucked up buddy
How is that what you took from this? Also whats fucked is you using SA as a cheap weapon to try and slander someone for criticising a show you like. Actually pathetic
Then season 3 came and made it all even worse. Boring, "edgy" for the sake of being "edgy" without any substance. They want so bad to be edgy and "funny" that the show became just a bad comedy sketch.
I kinda feel like you’ve completely missed the entire point of this show to the point that your image of what it is is so far removed from everyone else’s that you will always be mad about it because you’ve come to a completely different conclusion to literally everyone else who has watched the show

I was willing to give season 3 a go after how good season 1 was. Season 2 was terrible and I should have stopped watching after the ham-fisted "messages" (so many girl power and emasculation scenes) were so hard to ignore. I stopped watching part way thru season 3 after finally realizing how disgusting the gore had become.
I don't want to sound like a puritan, but there's definitely something wrong when you're able to broadcast viscerally realistic murder scenes where characters are begging for their life, while literally being ripped apart alive. It seems like they are trying to desensitize their viewers with it. I wish you covered that aspect, there's no need for that level of realistic gore to tell a story imo. Otherwise you've made another insightful and interesting video, great work!
i thought they were making fun of the girl power message hollywood throws around all the time???
@@JamesHeller-if5kg they were. And then they made it the right way with the logical fight between Stormfront and the other women. The men didn't fight her because they don't have any powers so it made sense that only women fought.

You gotta give it to amazon casting directors for gaming the system though.
