      Geeky Nerdy Techy what software did u use to mix audio

    • @seanschriver1543

      We are looking to direct feed video into an ATEM mini with three cameras (we would have a friend cutting from angle to angle as we record) and very little post editing, recording the single output to an external drive. Our goal is long form conversation, up to three hours, and are on a budget (this is more hobby for us). What would you recommend for a good looking shot, uninterrupted recording (a/c power supply) and direct feeding onto a mixing board rather than an SD card?
      Thanks!
      PS we would be recording audio separate with the rode mics and rodecaster pro audio mixer...

      We are going to start a music blog on you tube and we have multiple cameras but the main source of video is a webcam and our sound comes out of a mixer that goes into our laptop and mixes the sound. Do we need another mixer for the video? Or does the separate video and separate audio when uploaded to my editing platform is mixed there? - Thanks Cat

    Hey this covered all the questions I had when I was searching for some answers! I'm not sure if you also covered this topic, but I was wondering if you could maybe demo your step by step on how you put the videos and audios together. Assuming you have at least 2 cameras and 2 if not more audio tracks to go along with it, what would be your steps to take all that and put it all together. Thank you again!

  • @TheJanicas
    @TheJanicas 3 роки тому +4

    So I am assuming you record the audio and video separately. How do you mix them all together after? And then how do you go and mix all the different camera feeds when each person talks? Seems like alot of editing time

    • @ToddDeSilva
      @ToddDeSilva 2 роки тому +2

      I know it’s a fairly old comment, Adobe premiere pro has a sync feature to sync the master audio with all of the video tracks. It also has a multi-cam editor where you basically just click the camera you want to view and it does all the cuts automatically. Very quick.

  • @jameselden
    @jameselden 3 роки тому +1

    Enjoyed this, but there are still a few things I'm not sure about. There was a kyron in the vid that stated there was no producer present. How did you edit the camera angles? How does that come into play with the audio? What if you had a producer, how would you switch between cameras? Were you using three Panasonic 85s?

  • @UnrealApe
    @UnrealApe 5 років тому +6

    I was wondering the best way to do live automatic video switching so the camera can switch automatically based on who is talking. Are you just editing your video recording together afterwards?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  5 років тому +1

      You really need someone to manually change the cameras via switching. There's various solutions for this from Roland and Black Magic HDMI switchers. I am not aware of any automatic way via sound triggering but it might be available.

      The Panasonic G85 or G95. The auto focus is not fantastic but you can easily set it up so you can manually focus it. When film on this channel and intheblues I mostly use manual focus. That Boston soft toy is my focus assistant haha. I put it on the chair, touch the screen and it's in focus. :-) You could also just go for a video camera as well they are simple to use and work but the quality of the picture is quite different.

      That's where things get complicated: Easiest way is to use USB cameras b/c a streaming software like OBS will detect them automatically and you can arrange them as you wish. If you want to use a DSLR you will need 3rd party software to trick your computer into thinking it's a webcam or use a HDMI capture card. I have an old logitech webcam that is wide enough to capture the room + the webcam built into my MacBook and it works for me.

    9:45 - 10:07 - "Lumix G7 Only has 30 min record time". Incorrect, you can easily set the Lumix G7 to have unlimited recording time.
    1: Camera off
    2: Adjust Dials: Single Shot Mode & ‘P’ Mode
    3: Hold 3 buttons:
    WB (Right button), Display & AF/AE Lock
    4: Turn On Lumix G7
    5: Go to Playback Mode (Green Play Button)
    6: Hold ISO (Up Button) and AF/AE Lock
    7: Turn Off Camera
    You should get a Warning symbol (!)
    You now have unlimited record time (depending on your SD card)

    questions about syncing audio & video. You have 3 cameras, and audio on its own. What is your workflow for sync and editing angles?

    • @gkanai
      @gkanai 4 роки тому

      Jonathan Gayosso Some DAWs have audio syncing functionality although you would want to do a clap at the start to have something to sync off of. You also have to make sure that the audio settings are the same 24bit/48hZ is common. If your DAW doesn't have syncing, you can get third party software like PluralEyes from Red Giant. If you are regularly syncing audio and need a hardware solution, then you would go with something like Tentacle Sync.

      @jon3787 4 роки тому

      gkanai thanks for the reply, and the way 3 camera video comes in. Is this usually done in post just cut to different video . Or is this hardware as well that receives all video and you can pick which one is “live video”

    • @gkanai1400
      @gkanai1400 4 роки тому

      @@jon3787 I'm a little unclear on your question but if you have multiple cameras and want a hardware solution for streaming (for instance, one camera on the person, one for the game content, one for something else) you'd want something like that new Blackmagic ATEM Mini/Mini Pro which can mix up to 4 HDMI sources for streaming to Twitch or UA-cam, etc.. If you are not streaming, then yes you can cut to whichever camera you want in post.

Copy that stream key into OBS and you can start streaming. If you have a DSLR you will need 3rd party software to trick your computer into thinking it's a webcam. Alternatively you will need a HDMI capture card that you connect directly to the camera. Sounds complicated but believe me it is not. Good Luck!

The MixPre has excellent analog limiters, and MixAssist to help with opening the right mic. An alternative to the SD is a Behringer mixer which has both tone controls (to EQ the people/mics) and a variable compressor. The mics that I happen to have are 2x Rode M1S Dynamic mics, a Rode NTG1A and a Rode VideoMic NTG. Realise that they are very different, but that's what I have available so I have to go with that.

Reason I ask is I’m so used to the idea that the camera doesn’t fully matter as long as you can use it also using post color correction. I currently have a Sony a7ii and a moment lens iPhone camera set up. If I use my a7ii, moment lens set up, and either a canon t3i/t6i would that work and would their be a way to make sure there is a minimal difference in resolution?

    I know the record time is limited and you might have to do the filming in segments but can you film a podcast w/ Go Pros?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  3 роки тому

      You could possibly do it via the HDMI out into a switcher but GoPros eventually (most of the time) will overheat. I really need to update this video so stay tuned it'll be up soon. :)

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy Thanks man! Yeah I'm thinking of having a a switcher like you said. Any help would be appreciated and your video is great.

    First of all thank you very much for detailed informations. What do you think about rode caster pro ? It seems a good start for beginners or the ones who are going to build a setup similar to yours.

      I think the Rodecaster Pro is a good unit for what it is. It has some limitations but overall it's the easiest way to get going. That said, to make the most out of even the Procaster while keeping the noisefloor low you might still need to get a cloudlifter even though you don't technically need it. Thanks to the built-in effects on the Rodecaster Pro, you don't technically need a cloudlifter but from what I have heard it helps. It can't really be used well with rack units so look at it like it's own unit and ditch all the rack stuff.

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy thank you very much for your reply. Can you give more info on limititations ? Is it show stopper ? I thought it will be more then enough beginners like me.

    The Cloudlifter *is* a preamp.

      Yes, it is kind of weird, eh? A preamp for a preamp! They should just figure a way to give the mics a decent signal strength before they start selling them to the public.
