Perfection. Helen Mirren is one of the greatest performers - male or female - of the last 50 plus years. The Royal Shakespeare Company, spearheaded by Peter Hall and John Barton, were theatrical geniuses and helped to launch the acting careers of so many brilliant actors, from Mirren to David Warner to Ian Holm to Ian McKellen to Judy Dench to Patrick Stewart to Ben Kingsley to many, many more. Barton, Hall and the actors mentioned above (and others far less known) deserve far more recognition for what they have done for the craft of acting. Thanks for sharing this production of Miss Julie (the director can be forgiven for having the sun rise in the morning when in Midsummer in Sweden the sun never sets nor rises; and the boom operator can be forgiven for the boom constantly showing up in the frame), this was truly a treat. Strindberg would have been pleased, I think.
Is the director unaware that the play takes place during the Solstice, which in Sweden, is brightly sunlit all night? That's what triggers the events of the play, the madness of the sun that refuses to set.
The last part of this production dragged, probably because the writing is repetitious anyway. It's interesting how it's not the sex which is the real source of shame, but the smashing of the rigid class barrier. I've always enjoyed the fantasy about the tripartite hotel arrangement. For Strindberg, that's rip-roaring humour!
When I was young I thirsted for knowledge and culture but I was and still am severely sight impaired, on the autistic spectrum and struggled at school due to my poor eyesight and difficulty in concentrating. Over the ensuing years I educated myself and what a fantastic voyage of discovery it's been. I loved the arts when I was younger but now my palate's jaded. I watched this drama last night and was appalled by the ending. I know human madness knows no limits but this pushed the boundaries way past their limit.
@@benapostolos3389 I think that whole scene is to represent how when Julie slept with Josh she lost control pf her sanity and self worth. There for right after she losses the control of the house and its rules. That's why the servants are so wild and almost savage. So boob popping out I don't know what that means 😂😂😂
Dreary kitchen sink Jane Austen clone? Laughably wrong on so many levels. 1) Strindberg - the author - is 80 years later than her and anti-feminist. 2) This is the first play to address "the battle of the sexes" straight on, in a way that would make Austen faint. 3) Well it does take place in a kitchen. 4) Its called naturalism - know much about theatre, literature, or film? Evidently not.

Helen is a male.
Impeccable acting! Mirren the Queen and 2 fine actors as well are truly at their best-TY!
This is excellent, it's not a movie, it's a Play. It's not boring at all, full of tension, lust, love, very intense viewing.

The brighter the light, the darker the shadows.
Interesting point.
Ahhh well, leave it to the Brits.
Interesting
Gosh, thank you for letting us know!! That's such a huge oversight or a huge blander!!
Possibly. But while the solstice maybe a or the. trigger, it’s hardly central to the plot
Helen mirren is a great actress
PERFECT!!!! Thank you!!
Thank you! marvelous performance!💔
Absolutely amazing ! loved every minute of acting
To be an actor one must be intelligent enough to memorize all the lines in the script 😅. Bravo to all of them!
Amazing. Thank you.
She really is a Queen👑
I am a hero. I was able to watch the lot. With regret.

is that the great donal mccann ? i saw this at the Gate, dublin....... thrilling.
FROM S3 ESEF ⏳
Mirren's Julie is far too knowing. This production has got the play all wrong. See the Swedish 1951 film by Alf Sjoberg.
Is it my imagination or is Mr. McCann doing Jean in a Peter O'Toole imitation? Close your eyes and listen ....😯

Did they get physically intimate?
Sophie Lennon just couldn't pull it off. Too Bad
holy hell this movie is boring. Had to watch it for a class but good lord I would rather watch the 10 hour version of Gandalf Sax
my teacher said watch the video to see if its a naturalistic play but i watched a bit👁
@@saffiyasmaili414 #LadyChatterleysLover, a book with a similar theme, was considered so scandalous in England it was banned until the 1960s.
Maybe that's why "Naturalism" did not last long as a THEATRICAL movement ha,ha,!!!!!
