As an Auburn fan who is watching every piece of Auburn related content this season to fully enjoy this team, thank you guys for the kind words about our squad, and thank you for beating Alabama! Wish you guys the best moving forward!
I would also cut Brayden some slack. Denver Jones is one of the top defensive pgs in the country, and hes 6’3. He’s been giving teams fits all season, along with the rest of Auburn’s relentless team defense
Coming from a huge Purdue fan, Greg is spot on on his analysis of Purdue. Painter had a great opportunity to capitalize coming off a final four to go get some quality transfers to balance this young team. Instead he signed 3-4 mediocre recruits. Given some of these freshman could become good bigten players. But to Greg’s point why not sign 3 freshmen and get a couple upperclassmen? There is without doubt really good 23-24 year old transfers that would fit the Purdue system. Missed opportunity. But I’ll keep watching and provide full support for the Boilers!
Painter is one stubborn sob. He refuses to change anything, even though it’s obvious the game is evolving. He got lucky with Zach and it’s skewed how good Purdue was greatly. And going to the national championship game just bolstered his ego.
Keep in mind that Auburn has also developed their transfers. These guys were not highly rated when they got here, and they have been here multiple years. Only 1 of the tranfers we got this year plays significant minutes. Guys who worked hard to get where they are, and 2 freshmen are winning. I'll give everyone the experience narrative. Having mostly seniors matters. I won't give anyone the buying the program narrative. Our school gives most money to football. It is amazing what Bruce Pearl has put together. WDE.
Just imagine Auburn also was expected to have 5 Star recruit PG Aden Holloway with a year of experience under his belt but he transferred to Alabama. Adding him would just make them even more dominant.
@UnkleRuckusNoRelation Keeping Tre' Donaldson in place of JP would have been awesome in hindsight. I don't know that other name of which you speak lol
@cjdejour I loved Tre as well! Either would have helped but I expected to lose our back court and keep our front court and the exact opposite happened with all 3 guards transferring and both big men staying.
Took 20 minutes to talk about Auburn 😂. Greg has an issue with Pearl and it’s quite obvious that he lives rent free in that dome. You mentioned “JP Pegoo” who only played with the walk ons… name dropped Miles Kelly like he wasn’t an All ACC performer on a middling Ga Tech team. I’m sorry we have to make podcasting equipment more expensive
biggest problem for Purdue is they lost TOUGHNESS. Edey, Gillis, and Lance Jones all left and brought that "dog" with them. This team looks mentally weak and folds under any pressure. There is no enforcer, no glue guy, no one to energize them on the road. That's what a veteran transfer can add. Gonna be a long season...
At 10:20, after previously saying that, in any Purdue game this season, "(Braden Smith) will always be the best guard", Greg updates us on Smith's recent statistics. In the last two games, against good competition, Greg reports that Braden Smith has more turnovers than assists and went a paltry 1 for 10 from the field. In other words, Smith wasn't even close to "the best guard" in these basketball games. Greg has been singing the Braden Smith song for extra clicks from Purdue fans who still haven't faced reality. Their team isn't even close to good enough to win a Big Ten title or anything more since Zach Edey left.
I’m glad that Greg and Carter are coming to the realization what myself and a lot of people have been shouting since the start of the off-season. Braden is a gamer and extremely good player, but to be putting him on the pedestal of all American and best PG in the country was and is ridiculous. Said it all summer, but if he is going to be labeled like this, he needs to become a high volume in high efficient three level score which he is very much limited to become. Only took it been 1/3 into the season to see this
8:22 Smith is not better than Nembhard or Kam Jones right now from an assist to turnover ratio. He’s not even top 4 in that stat within the B10. The PG is supposed to make everyone else better not vice versa.
As a diehard Purdue fan, I 100% agree with you that it was ridiculous to both take a freshman class of five, none of which were five stars and only two four star players & letting the best one Catchings go, snd not only not making promises over average players like Heide and Colvin, but also not taking him back when he wanted back in the next day. We would be a far better team this year and next with Catchings, most likely 9-3 or 10-2.
This game was not as close as the final score. Broome played 25 minutes. AUBURN led by 38 points at one time. Purdue fished the game on a 11-0 run against AUBURN walk-ons.
Love the Boilers! But this looks like it’s going to be a long season. I’m hoping it won’t be a short post season… we have some issues against these aggressive defenses. And we haven’t found any good solutions to teams loading up on Braden… hopefully we figure something out before tournament time.
Purdue just doesn’t have what it takes this year. I expect them to finish in the bottom half of the conference. Can’t win consistently when you only get production from Smith and TKR. Loyer is a disappointment.
Purdue runs their sets through Renn... Loyer and Smith. Colvin and Heide stand on the other side ..offense is stagnant..no ball movement...no off ball screens . I can't figure out what Paint is trying to run!!
@@Cat-cl8dt hating just to hate at this point. It’s December, every team looks different in a month. The hardest non conference schedule of any big ten team
That's not gonna happen. They will lose some games, they have been crazy good, but Mark my words, when they run into another team with a decent front court that can matchup with Broome and Cardwell they will struggle. Duke is the only team they have played that has had size in the front court that could matchup with them.
Funny how everyone loves to paint Cal as a mediocre coach with making no second weekends since Covid, yet Pearl has done the same thing. And he has had great teams, including the Walker Kessler/Jabari Smith team that was a 1 seed.
And I've watched so many videos at this point. I just have to say that host on the right is a grade A hater for whatever personal reasons. He needs to stop discussing Auburn until March. His head is going to explode 😂
I get some of his points regarding postseason history but like Carter said just look at this season with blinders on. Auburn is the best team in the country by basically all metrics plus the eye test. This team has shown the ability to win away from home and the guard play has been spectacular which are the two biggest knocks for the past few seasons. Jones/Pettiford >>> Holloway/Donaldson and Green/Jasper. Kelly >>> KD Johnson. Easily Pearls roster with the most length since he has been at Auburn too. There are tons of familiar faces but it’s really a much different auburn team than people are used to seeing.

@@wmkess Agreed. It looks like they finally got the right combination. I'm excited about SEC play. It's going to be challenging and win or lose, I believe they will continue to learn and get better.

I agree somewhat that part of Braden's woes are self-inflicted. The other players seeing Braden being double teamed should be flashing to get open for at least a relief pass. Other teams have learned that slowing down Braden such they have little time on the shot clock to get a respectable shot. Another point is Paint and PJ need a better offense.
By the numbers at this point in the season, this AUBURN team is the best in the modern era! I see a 14-4 or 13-5 roll thru the SEC! That should be good enough for a #1 overall seed in the NCAA.

Purdue (and Smith) was severely overrated this season. Anyone with half a brain knows Edey was everything for this team and that his presence covered the rest of the team’s flaws. It Painter is going to continue wasting transfer spots on Mickey Mouse recruits like Benter and Waddell then you need a generational big who doesn’t get injured to make that type of roster work.
