  • In this lesson, we will discuss machine learning and neural networks. We will learn about the overall topic of artificial intelligence (AI), with machine learning (ML) being a subset of AI. Neural networks are then a subset of machine learning. Neural networks are a technique where a computer network performs a task without human intervention and trains and improves over time. Applications are in artificial general intelligence, finance, speech recognition, image recognition, self driving cars, and more. We will discuss the networks weights and biases and learn how a real neural network operates and how it is trained.

The algorithm of YT somehow led me here, based on related videos, which ultimately stemmed from one of the many AI alignment concern videos. It kind of feels like figuring out the degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon, lol! But after watching this video, I am sitting here thinking about how I ended up landing here, based from the inputs times the weights, and adding a bias, from my previous viewings. However it worked, I am thankful for it! You are one of the very few creators that completely grabbed and held onto my attention AND interest. You explained things in a logical progression, with adding layers of context, to get a much deeper level of understanding, with just enough of the side reminders on how the math was calculated. I subscribed and look forward to learning more!

And to add to my comment - The last (and most enjoyable) mathematics class I ever took in college, was Finite Math(I think that was the name), and that was when I was introduced to matrix multiplication, etc. I have never had a need to recall how to use it in real life since then, until now. To give you an idea of how long ago that was - I was sitting in that class when I lived in NY, and 9-11 happened. We were all sent home after that class. But, of all the math courses I ever took, I truly enjoyed that one. So with you bringing that up in your teaching, it really helped me to start having a better grasp on it all. Thank you!

Awesome overview of AI in regards to ML!!!!! You answered a plethora of questions around AI, NN, ML concepts. Tremendous job starting with Real World Applications so that AI becomes practical vs. theoretical eliminating some the mystery surrounding AI, especially the comparisons to the human brain being its inspiration. When you stated that at the very basic levels of these algorithms was Algebra, I was skeptical and didn't really believe you, but then you proved it!!! I now know why you are/were a Rocket Scientist working at NASA and now the ultimate Professor/Educator!! Explaining step by step granularly using everyday or basic math/Algebra terms and vocabulary then connecting that to specific AI vocab, I understood everything. I stopped and went back to listen several times to ensure I followed you to the next step. I must admit the matrix part was a little fuzzy at first because I had forgotten it. But your explanation of how a matrix works was a good review and the concept came back. Thank you for delivering the lessons in a manner where it makes sense to you first without apology (admire the confidence and honesty); then relaying that information to the learners in a way that is clear, concise, effective and comprehensible. Your visuals were extremely helpful-simple, clear with distinct basic colors. Standing ovation to you, sir!!!!

I certainly enjoyed this since the hot topic has been "AI" as if it were sentient on media and news and public discussions. Clarifies to my satisfaction how to keep it from going off on it's own largely. Math.....functions, derivatives and basic algebra....applied. Thank you very much for posting this. It helps us reason better with a deeper understanding of what's current and future as we embrace it with suspicion, yet we can supervise it's development far better as we learn the good, not so good and things we can actually do while we experiment with it's neural network capability. Some currently are amazing the originators with good interpretation of our intent while feeding data that's got it's own bias causing problems suddenly. I can't discuss this with the average individual since most seem math challenged totally. It's a shame the press does such a lousy job of explaining it like you have, sir. Appreciate this greatly now that it's here and live working....helping and alarming as well. Godspeed.
