    Excellent, I am only just starting to explore this Genera. I wasn't sure at first whether they could hack the greenhouse. I have P. restrepiodes and P. rowleei. They are under the bench where they still get good light but remain in the swamp cooler draft during summer. So far I have not killed them. I also haven't managed to kill my two Stelis or Masdevallia. Nice bowl!

      Oliver's Greenhouse you might want to bring P. restrapoides up onto the bench. I treat mine like a Cattleya except I keep it moist (maybe it has personality issues). Mine is variety ‘Dragonstone’ and it keeps making keikis.

      Right, I will do that. Mine also makes loads of keikis rather than blooming. Cheers for the tip. 👍

    Thank you for making this video and sharing your advice. I have just purchased my first P. restrepioides and was not quite sure of how to cultivate it.

    Thanks for this great indepth video. If you are still around, which would you say are the most warm tolerant species? winter gets cold here but summer nights are never below 22 c/ 72 f

      There is a place called Andy’s Orchids. Go on that site and look at the temperature requirements. Pleur. grobii is very tolerant. Masd. florabunda and Restrepia straita are good picks. Try potting with sphagnum moss or NZ tree fern fiber in clay pots to keep the roots cool. Best of luck!

      @@wadesorchids7219 thanks so much for the recommend and website! ill have to investigate the temp diff created by a wet leca tray or pot. bare in mind that cold to touch can just mean highly conductive! 20c air is warm but 20c water is cold!

    That purple leaf one is pretty . I killed my creamy flower one as well as my Masdevallia ... I guess my climate is not cool & humid enough for them . Nice video , thank you for sharing.

      I'm sorry to hear that, Miche. Pleurothallids are really challenging in warm climates.

    Love those with purple leaves and the other with purple blooms. Very informative as always. Once had one plurethalus and it died! Do they need lots of moisture? How often do you water? Do you leave sphagnum to dry out before watering again?

    • @wadesorchids7219
      @wadesorchids7219  6 років тому +1

      I keep them moist. The clay pots and good quality moss work well together. It does make for frequent watering though which is why I don’t use clay for 2” pots.

    What is your humidity? That looks like a lot of moss, but I have 90% humidity.

    Hey Wade, my name is Lance, we talked at the OSWP show last weekend. I am the guy that keeps the snakes and we talked about pet stores and bird bites, lol! I was wondering, the very dark Stelis, that you said was Stellis adrii (I am probably butchering the spelling). How to do you spell that as I can't seem to find it online? Also I loved this video, thank you for doing it! I am just getting into Pleurothallids and I love them! I dig your channel and will be watching more videos.

      Hi Lance! That was Stelis adrianae. It is available from Andy's. Remember that this is an intermediate grower and does best when nights get a 10 - 15 degree drop.

      Yeah, I might have to look into getting one of those. I love how dark the leaves are on yours! Is that a light thing? I have been working as a volunteer at Phipps Conservatory and this week we were repotting Masdevallias and Pleurothallids and I am learning a lot. I am thinking about setting up a big aquarium with LED lights and cooling fans to keep them in. I really want to have a collection of them.

      The leaves really are pretty dark. It can vary depending on temperature and amount of light.

    Thank you, Wade, for a great tutorial. What kind of lighting do you recommend for your Pleurothallid species and for Draculas? I have mine quite shaded, but they aren't doing much. More light?

    • @wadesorchids7219
      @wadesorchids7219  6 років тому +1

      Add more light - especially if you can do it without creating more heat or less humidity. My pleurothallids get enough light to bloom a Cattleya BUT!!! I have very high humidity, good air movement, and all my light is filtered by a shade cloth so they never get direct light. Draculas are pretty low level. Those I grow hanging from the edge of the bench so it is cooler nearer the floor and the light is about enough to bloom Phals. Hope that helps.
