The youtube algorithm just brought me to your channel tonight for whatever reason. Not a big CW guy (I'm trying) but I greatly admire those of you that do it. I live out East so cool of you to take us on these adventures and show us the beautiful lands out West.

@@yeahitsk Haha that’s awesome. I’m glad the algorithm found you. I have to mention I started learning CW just this year and made my first QSO end of March. If you put some time in each day you’ll be surprised. Especially within the confines of POTA - the exchange is really straight forward and copying call signs is probably the easiest format of CW as speeds increase. Just my opinion! I still have a long way to go. 73 and hope to work you very soon! De KI7QCF

@@Utahforrest I saw your QRZ and was surprised that you're so new to CW. I've also watched lots of K4SWL and you sound just as fast. I got really into satellites and POTA as the thing that drew me into ham but CW is a very interesting tradition of this great hobby and I indeed hope to work you soon. In the meantime I'm subscribed.

@@yeahitsk Thank you! It’s actually not too hard to start to send fast once you get the hang of it. But “copying” is another story. K4SWL is definitely light years ahead of me in his proficiency but I know that’s just a normal part of the journey. - It takes time. I’d love to pick your brain on satellites. My journey into “operating” w/ ham radio has almost exclusively been CW so I’m regularly learning more about other parts of the hobby. 73 and thanks for subscribing!

@@haletd It’s funny, as I drove up and saw it I literally thought to myself: “oh that’s why it’s called sand mountain” haha. You had a great signal as well!! watching it back I absolutely should’ve given you the 599 but I wanted you to hear me send “8” since it’s more complicated to send than a “n”.

Thanks for bringing us along, Forest! Great activation. Such a cool spot! The KH1 is rockin. Japan on the whip! Wow! What always amazes me is what you can hear on a mountain top.Thats some serious dedication - laying on the sand sideways so we could see. I have a kh1 and love it. But, have to admit, i have not tried the whip for an actual activation. We have 4 summits planned for this weekend so may give it a shot. Hey! The W4T SOTA campout is this weekend. May be good opportunity for s2s if you happen to be out. 73 de N4AAJ

I thought that coax was LMR400. That rig is so small it makes the rg8x look big. Clear video. I can read the letters on the coax. KE6VG

100%! Funny story I ordered this radio earlier this year but hadn’t received it yet so at Hamvention I swung by the Elecraft booth to see it and the #1 thing that stood out to me was its so much smaller in person than on video! So I’m glad you can tell its size next to that RG-8X! Haha, thanks for watching 73 de KI7QCF
