A good walk indeed! Very nice video and great pictures. I particularly like the mossy tree picture. 👍

@@mad1961md many thanks, that is very kind, although personally, I was not so satisfied with the content in this video. Too much walking & talking, not enough taking good photos!
However, this is showing the reality of doing this stuff. Sadly, we don’t get ideal light & beautiful subjects to take photos of every time just because we got up early & were out before dawn. The reality is that often the dawn light is not what we hope for, and you have to try and make do with the hand we are dealt on a given morning.
I’m looking forward to hunting for the elephant tree again though, there are 3 different starting points, they all involve a significant walk to get to the woods where it’s meant to be. I will be trying one of the other starting points next time, and I’ve been given a clue to its location, but need to look closely at my OS map before I go again!

I appreciated the way you shared your thought process while composing each shot. Very helpful for us photographers still displaying our 'L' plates!

@@stevenlagoe7808 hi Steven, I appreciate your feedback….i’ve got L plates on to, for doing these UA-cam videos!
I’m don’t consider myself an ‘expert’ on the stills side either, despite having an interest in photography for over 40 years, I’ve not done it professionally, and it’s been very much a hobby that I enjoy when I’ve had time. I took an early retirement option mid ‘24, and also completed a large DIY project in 2024, and my sons are more independent now than they have been over the past 18 years, so I now find i suddenly have much more time to enjoy my hobby. The video side interests me so I’ve combined the two. I will try to remember to add in more of my thought process in during future videos, although the next one, which I’m in the process of editing, will be a bit light on this side, because it really was a last minute trip and I didn’t get much video shot. I really do appreciate feedback like yours, as it helps me better understand what people like to see/hear in these videos, so please feel free to leave such feedback on how I can improve the content of the videos. I’m also planning to try something a little different in a video soon.

@@TheLDunn1 I can only imagine what a pain it must be to not only find interesting subjects to shoot, but also to have to consider the video side of things. I only have enough space in my brain to cope with the still photography. I do find it useful to speak my thought process out loud while I'm composing a shot - but only if there's no one else around!
What prompted me to write my comment was when you were trying to compose the shot of a single tree. Paraphrasing:
‘Ok, I just want that tree. But there’s no mist to separate it from the trees in the background, and it’s not far enough to separate it with a wide aperture. I need to move further away to capture the roots, but there’s a ridge in the way so the further away I get, the more height I need.’
I kept pausing the video and reviewing the scenes for myself, working my way through your thought process. Every time I guessed what you were going to say next, I gave myself a pat on the back!
I assume this is what happens when a Photography Society/Club go out on a shoot. An experienced or professional photographer presents the others with a subject, and they work their way through the process of capturing the best image. I don’t know because I’m not a member of a group. It’s just me and my ancient digital camera bumbling our way through the landscape!

@ I joined an online photo group in Oct ‘24, and I’ve met up with other members near where I live, around 5 other members so far. However, there’s not really one leader or professional that has done what you have described, we were all amateurs. It was still great to go on photo walks together though and shoot our own things. It may be different if you went on a paid workshop though. The 617 Club has been well worth the joining fee, there have been multiple guest online presentations plus in house pros giving online presentations covering how they go about their shoots & editing. Its inspiring.
I try and capture what is going through my head as I spot subjects, what I’m seeing and what I’m looking for, doesn’t mean I’m right of course, but it gives some idea of what’s going on in my head hopefully.

Van update: I had a thought and have tried something out on my van, I’ll test it properly tomorrow, but I ‘may’ have fixed it. Won’t know until I do a test drive tomorrow.
