Buying one of that thing is adventure on it's own .
We were climbing ice bergs in the Dundas, Greenland area in 1981. We found it best to climb during the winter when the bregs were stuck fast in the pack ice. I saw seven foot face waves (Hawaiian Measurement) when they rolled. Surfed a couple n my kayak. Wish that I had GoPro then. Great video, though.
I've climbed a few icebergs in the past and took the time to study them for years before attempting the climbs.
The broken halo of ice around the first iceberg was a clear indicator that this iceberg is very very unstable. An iceberg center of gravity is always pointed straight down. The halo of ice is created by chips or large chunks of ice breaking off. This could be because the iceberg is hitting a submerged rock shelf or the water temperature is warming up very quickly causing the ice to pop. The larger the temperature gradient between the water and iceberg the more it will breakup, pop or explode.
On their second iceberg they were holding onto the boat and getting on it with an single axe. That was very bad form and extremely dangerous. In the waters that I climbed in the waves were large and the possibility of falling between the boat and the iceberg was very high. A boat would easily crush a person.
On the third iceberg they made another bad choice. The large chunk breaking off would change the center of gravity, thus the iceberg could roll at any moment. This is quite a bad risk to take for the boat and its crew.
Climbing underneath one another is also really bad for ice climbing in general, but even worse for icebergs. This ice is the result of 15,000 years of compressed snow. It's extremely dense. Over those thousands of years, the compression has squeezed out all of the air bubbles making the ice highly susceptible to dinner-plating. I once had a dinner plate that was larger than my entire body on an iceberg.
If you're planning on doing this and have more questions please feel free to drop me a line. I'd rather share my knowledge to help others do something extremely dangerous more safely.

Awsome film :-) loved It :-)

I think you just sold a few more cameras with this movie. WOW.
That's the idea ;)
These Cams are made for boosting some seeking fame people
to do what they shouldn't do for their own safety.
Stupidity has no limit and they're making money from it.
Climbing is basically a lot about buying all sorts of designer label clothes & other stuff.
Icebergs are like our grandparents, we have to enjoy them while we can because they'll be gone before we know it.
Sad :(
BinkieMcFartnuggets this is y there gone because of people messing with them
Ice melts I think?
You’ll be long ded m8
Icebergs are like grandparents... You might become an iceberg one day.
4:17 Oh my god. Pure cinematic look :)
Really hit me when he took a look at a picture of his kids before setting out to climb.
This was intense. And that just watching! Can't imagine what they felt like.
6:20 is a head
+FoothillMonkeys who?
+FoothillMonkeys yeah. I saw it too
bro 2 years later and I still can't find this head?

The story of life is embedded in this beautiful video; goals, ways to success, trust, value of time, living in present, persistence and hard work, failures, life satisfactions, attention to nature and our creator are all here...
Well said mate! Totally agree with u!
One of the best made videos i have ever seen. Watched about 3 times so far.
Omg how he looked at his kids picture before climbing the iceberg💕💕☺️
Keep doing what you are doing and good luck!
proud to be a slovenian!
+MRTeam I was trying to figure out the language, thanks for specifying!
What exactly caused that?
@@Anglethful Same haha! I figured it was a Slavic language, but he was speaking with like an Italian accent so I was so confused haha

tomb raider made it look so easy...
wow, one of the greatest clips i have seen in a while, my biggest respect for those 2 climbers
Great vid, kept me on the edge of my seat. Just so volatile & precarious to climb on icebergs... thank goodness for adventurers, who bring us thrills & chills.
BRAVO!
Super video.
Super experience.
Very beautiful pictures.
Very nice boat.
Thank you.
This definitely the most intense GoPro vid I've watched like every second could be their last. Well done to both of them very brave.
Definitely best of the 4K serie. This video is stunning.
So um how did they get down?
a emu wait... WE!? are you the guy?! :D!
a emu OOOH!! MAN that was awesome!! Congratulations!! ^_^ and have a great week and Christmas! and all of that!! :D
a emu I mean it looks much more complicated to step down then stepping up with those boots lol how did u guys manage to hold yourself every time u stepped back down? Specially with those sticks ? Pretty impressive stuff man
a emu I want some proof buddy
Jamal Nippleham yeah I still don't believe him lol
This is AMAZING. I have a lot of respect for those men, very brave and unique what they're doing. Made me set a goal to one day climb an iceberg. Sick as always gopro!!!
I salute you guys for sticking to your goals and achieving them! Amazing!
and that just the tip of the ice berg ;)
One of the best GoPro videos out there.
Watching videos like this, gives me hope.
Fak ... slovenca sta naredila tak dober video? En ta boljših posnet z GoPro kamero. :)
THIS FILM SHOULD TAKE OSCAR AWARD
One of the best GO PRO videos!!
Those 2 guys are slovene. Thanks for supporting our country GoPro!
The fact that a lot of comment set that the ice of the iceberg is falling because of the climbers and this action causes the global warming to accelerate, really scares me a lot more than these guys doing this really cool climb.
Daniel Sadjadi arctic ice is growing
Damn this 4K wide shoots are insane,
I will buy a new GoPro when the shoot in 60fps 4K definitely.
Did you buy it? I think buy one when they shoot 16k
Love all the camera angles and the scenery.
a trip like this is the best choice of adventure
dobr video slovenca 👍👍
this video is so great ,the nature is so beautiful
This video is beautiful. Love this
Why are they wearing a harness with icescrews, quickdraws and a belay device if they don't have a rope? and also... they must have downclimbed from the summit since they didn't have a rope... but then why bring all that stuff with you? i know almost nothing about ice climbing but a harness is pretty useless if you don't have nothing to tie it into. Does someone have any idea?
Even without a rope they can ice screw the surface and anchor themselves for whatever reason they need, they were also using their harnesses to keep their second ice tool while holding on to the boat
In case they do need to stop, they can always use the harness, but there's nothing 100% solid with certainty on any iceberg (no big rock whatsoever), so that's why they can't rely on a rope.
Super projekt, odlično posneto in zmontirano. Prekrasni posnetki. Bravo!
This was an ad on another video I was watching and I watched the whole video, so interesting I had no idea iceberg climbing was an actual kind of sport. Just subscribed to the GoPro channel love it!
Truly, off the charts extreme
I hope none of my friends ever get interested in doing something as insane as iceberg climbing... O_o

That would be a great addition to the famous video about "dumb ways to die".
Hmmm, odd. I somehow didn't feel Felix's comment was dissing the climbers. That's a head-scratcher: why is that? I can't quite put my finger on it yet.
Perhaps I feel something along the lines that the climbers would agree, "yea, it's a dumb way to die, but it's the choice we make, for the sake of following our passions", hence not dissing. Or that it's rather saying "the dumb way to die is for inexperienced copycats to try to do what these professionals are doing", so a "don't try this ar home, folks" followed by "trying this at home is a dumb way to die", figuratively speaking.

2 MiNUTE GoPro CLiPS.
I gotta say I was floored at 1:22 when I saw the fly over of the small town in Greenland. I was watching it on my sony 55"w800b tv on a PS4 youtube app calibrated with the disney WOW disk on a 6mb down connection. I would argue that this video made my tv look better than any 4k stuff I've seen in the store. Thanks it was a really neat video.
Beautifully crafted CGI ... Very nice work indeed
now i kinda want to climb an iceberg too XD true story
BGBMX you play halo 5?
Too late. You already overdosed on drugs
As they climbed down from there?

I understand what drives these guys. I'm currently training to run up and back down the tallest mountain in my region. But what these guys did is just crazy. Kudos to them for pulling it off though.
Amazing adventure and beautifully filmed
Whats the amazing soundtrack in 11:08???

Oh.. It's.. It's.. Very amazing! I have no words to describe this! Very cool!
30 second clips of awesome action sports. 13 minute video of climbing icebergs... nice
imagine one of the falling to the water. Probably 8 gopro with The Frame ( Non waterproof case) to the water 5:47
Makes me shiver.. Think about the funding they have though - then there's me :'(
What is the song on 10:40?? Does anyone know???
interested as well... anyone?
Yeah please tell me that song ? Anyone who is kind enough !! heloooo ??
Deadhorse - New Bones. If you click SHOW MORE, there is a description of all the music. I've got to give these GO PRO guys credit. They are the only commercials that pop up before a show that I want to see that I actually take the time to watch.
machinegunmolly1 it is not the song at 10.40 and 11.45.. Deadhorse-New Bones is something else.
Oh EM GEE! This video was created like a piece of art!
Amazing picture clarity
i might be heading down a "slippery slope" (no pun intended), but does climbing these icebergs not break the iceberg? do these breakings not put a direct cause to the sea levels rising? just a thought...
No, and no. Climbing has no real effect on the icebergs. Climbers are rather insignificant. Anything they appear to break most likely would have broken soon naturally. And breaking an iceberg doesn't change how much water it displaces. If you take a glass of water and put an ice cube in it, measure the height of the water, break the ice cube in half, and put the broken pieces back in, you'll see that the water level is the same.
Well... yes... but on such a small scale that it has no effect. If you compare it with global warming it has no effect at all. It's just so little that it will make no difference. It's just a "drop in the ocean", pun intended!
Joe Cullinan
However - smaller portions of ice will melt quicker than large portions of ice. Thus breaking them apart will cause them to melt quicker overall.
Joe Cullinan does it not speed the process of which It melts?
Adam Fa Not in any way that's significant to sea level. Some really quick math shows that to raise the sea level one inch you'd need to add something like 25,000,000,000,000,000 (25 quadrillion) gallons of water. A single person or a small group of people isn't going to affect any meaningful change by smacking some icebergs with some metal picks.
Why have the go pro on the helm no Case on?
for the better sound
Okay, but in Ice, i had made the skeloton
SikuFarmer agree. you see. if i had the money i would buy a new skeleton housing and make holes where the microphones are supposed to be. that way i would get better sound still protecting the camera. just an idea. idk
Yes. :)
ernesin149 yeah but some people might find that bulky. the set up these guys have is a lot more simple so they can do all this without feeling the bulkiness.
A very beautiful place to play dont die out there. Wild wild climbing. What a rush .
This video is amazing!
Slovenian climbers ;) juhej :)
Rise of the Tomb Raider anyone??
Wow looks incredible!
The sound of them climbing is kind of addicting =) That ice though.............. damn. Absolutely stunning vids.
