@@CoalitionGamingdumb question I just got a w-2145 xeon workstation for cheap it's 8 core 16 thread 3.7ghz will that bottleneck a 4070/4080. My tv is 4k I'm going to play Alan Wake 2 cyberpunk elden ring and baldhur gate 3.
Okay, I need a little help. I just did one of these builds with the Z440 motherboard and everything is running but I can't get it to boot. My SSD only shows under the UEFI driver section. I can't eliminate the 917 or 921 error, but that's fine. I need to know what to do in the bios to get this thing to boot. I've tried everything. Please add these steps to your videos. I love the info and learn a lot but small important steps are always missed.
@@notatechguy1209 nothing special was needed in BIOS when using a SATA SSD. If UEFI is selected as boot device, try changing it to the one labeled "windows boot manager" instead.
Love this video! I fix computers for my community when away from my day job, and a client gave me an ASRock X99 Extreme with 64GB DDR4 2666MHz and a 18 core Xeon with a 240mm AIO. I repasted it, bought a $30 600W PSU, $50 test bench frame, two 512GB m.2s and a 1660 Super. I already have a 12700k, 64gb DDR5, and 3090. Now my wife lets me sleep on the couch.
Currently running with the following build: CPU=E5-2696V3 (18core/36thread,with turbo unlock, price $51); GPU=GTX1080Ti (with undervolt, price $350 at the time); 4x8GB DDR4 (3000Mhz) in 4 channel (price $45); Motherboard=HuananZhi X99TF ($50...two for $100 given full refund on first due to AliEx failed delivery...motherboard surprisingly arrived at door 3 months after dispute resolution); CPU air cooler=PCCooler GI-D66A ($70); ADATA 1TB XPG Spectrix S20G RGB ($120); PSU=Corsair TX650M ($90); Vertical testbench in lieu of case ($70). Total build=$846. Between the GPU, case, PSU, cooler...reduced specs would take the price below $550. CB R15 CPU score=2460 pts CB R20 CPU score=5489 pts CB R23 CPU multi-score =13,711 pts
the z440 is a great platform. with businesses always upgrading, there will never be a shortage of workstations to tinker with. my usecase for my z440 is for streaming, but i know i could do 1080p gaming on it as i've upgraded it with a 1650 oc. i do know to temper my expectations though as chris brought up a great point about core count. higher core counts doesn't always necessarily mean better. games have to be optimized for the hardware. in my case, i have the 12 core 24 thread xeon. while this is fantastic for workload and multitasking, there are games that won't be able to take advantage of those extra cores and threads, so won't run as well.
Aside from gaming the broadwell Xeons are an even better value for multithreaded workloads. You can build a whole 40 core/80 thread rendering server with 128GB of ram for $650 that will score 30,000 on Cinebench while running silent at full workload and you can even bring down the price to $500 if you go for slightly lower specs.
@@tatas6635 I'm just saying there is no reason whatsoever to buy one now that broadwell xeons are $15 each for 8 to 14 cores. Also ddr4 ecc is dirt cheap.
Before COVID I built two PC's with (and for) my two teenage daughters; both based on X79 at the time. I probably invested about $650 in each, including GPU (GTX980's at the time...since sold those off during the GPU price craze and managed to snag excellent deals on a used RTX 2080S and GTX 1080). These remain excellent builds, though they lack AVX2. I will be upgrading them to X99 w/ Xeon's near term (either 2678v3, as I have an extra one...or straight to 2696v3...which is hovering around $45 these days). Each upgrade would probably cost in the range of $140, offset by used parts sales. In total net cost will be around $100, I suppose. They can live with the rest...RGB cases...650W PSU's (Gold rated)...DDR3...CPU coolers (Air) each with 6x6pipe and dual 120mm fans. When Win10 reaches obsolescence...I'll work around that too...plenty of options there.
always love the xeon builds so much bang for buck. Dont forget to sub, leave a like, comment and ring that bell also check out chris's video description on where to find him to talk tech ask about pc problems and anything in between hope to see u around
awesome videos Chris! appreciate them. Very impressive you got it down to about $400.00 Bro as soon as you find a Xeon build with NVe m.2 s capability, please upload. huge fan on these budget friendly gaming builds!!!!!
Thanks! You can actually add nvme m.2 drives (that you can boot off of) with a $15 (ebay) PCI-E m.2 adapter from hp. Search HP Z Turbo G2 on eBay and then there you go!
Z440 gaming PCs are great. I bought a board for 30, 2630v3 for 5, 1660 for 100 anAll in all I am in for like 140 just reusing the old case ram and psu. I can comfortably game at 1440p and it’s a great workstation when I need it for that
I got my computer also for 400$ : Cpu: E5 2670 v3 Ram: 64 Gb Psu: some 500w Storage: 1tb m.2 nvme Gpu: rtx 460 I got that gpu so that I can upgrade it later but overall the computer it's very good
It’s amazing to see more budget friendly PCs can be built🥰💪😇 ….. the only thing is I, like many, don’t live in the US including north and south US and aren’t able to get such good deals on parts 🤕😢…… but at least this ox can get something capable of playing vast majority of titles for cheaper than even 6 months ago and equivalent / similar builds can still be had regardless
I actually purchased these particular RAM RGB coolers 3 years back and we’re, at the time, about $14USD …… I know inflation is a thing …. But 50% in 3 years 😱🤯😡! The new RGB Tax 😅😂🤣😝in action. I replaced the supplied thermal foam with thermal pads and found I got better memory temps of about 5-7c under usage in my enclosed ITX rig….. maybe something to consider ….. unless EZI-DIY have upgraded their thermal foam to a Bette quality 🤔
Great build but... im not a fan of telling people to use older GPU's though great they may be. 1080/ti are often in these but its both quite old and way power hungry in comparison to its performance. I put a RX 6600 in my HP Z420, (reserve gaming rig) replacing a very functional gtx 1650. Strong, modern and just 132W TDP! Its my first ATI card in 12 years and i couldnt recommend it more!
People wanting new or used GPUs old or not is all down to preference anyways. Though the RX 580 feature in this build isn't too crazy in power usage, especially compared to a 1080ti. Nowadays the used market is so good that going up to something like a 1070, 5700XT, or even a RTX 3070 (though that may be a little overkill) is recommendable. But for people who wouldn't even buy used... id say it's worthwhile to spend a little extra on an RX 6700 over a 6600, but only for those 6700 models under $300 (there are a few online). Some things are worth stretching budget for.
the one side of xeons for gaming which quite a few don't consider is the power consumption, sure the xeon might be cheap to buy and build a rig, but long term...longthy gaming sessions may potentially impact the electricity bill. I'm a Xeon owner also, but my xeon rig is for my office/work machine. I have a xeon e5-2650 v2 w/16gb ddr3-1333 ecc in quad channel. Running Linux Mint 20.3, my video out is just a palit geforce 8600gt 1GB. Built that rig in Oct of 2021. Snce it's a low workload oriented use, my electircity build hasn't been severely impacted even tho I use maybe 2 hours a day. If I were gaming tho..I'd likely look at e5 v3 or e5 v4 xeons and not the e5 v2, since the v2 xeons lack the avx2 instructions. But are okay for office/work machines.
Great pc I was able to make a 400 dollar pc with a i7 16 gbs ram and a 2060 6gb extreme i recently sold it for what I bought it for but it was a really good build especially for last year when I build it around the market crash ..
I have exactly the same configuration, Z440 but with e5-1650 v3 24GB ram and Rx 580, but in my opinion you could reduce the cost of this monster by using the original case with some LEDs for the effects, there is no point to build a budget system and use a seperate case and fan, at best that budget can be used to put a better graphics card.
I've done that on the channel as well with a few of the Z workstation series. One Z420 I even painted the case, modded a window to the side panel, and added LEDs too. The case swap stuff like in this video is far more interesting, at least to me.
YOu can now get an HP Z4 G4 for like 150 bucks and the w-2145 is like 100. You have a bad ass computer right there with only 250 invested. There isn't even a question.
Yo nice video, i have a hp z440 with a xeon v3 1630 and a gtx 1080 and apparently its bottlenecked, if i should upgrade the cpu, what cpu should i upgrade it to? I dont know too much about xeons and if i get a new cpu do i have to update the bios?
Thanks! E5-1650v4 for max speed and a few extra cores, E5-2667v4 for more cores but a little less max speed. Yes you'll need the BIOS update from HP driver page for the Z440s.
According to this, you can use regular DDR4 www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/18agb4y/aliexpress_motherboard_zsus_x99_p4_all_you_need/ From what i understand about the memory controllers on these Xeons, they can support EITHER regular DDR4 or ECC DDR4, it just all has to be the same (no mixing and matching).
Nice Low budget build out there, i was only missing the exact type & speed of RAM u would of got with that. Ive recently bought & upgraded a HP Z440. The person who sold it used it for AutoCAD and other graphical designing software etc. ive found it on a local sort of EBAY in europe. The offer had included for € 250: 700W PSU Top Case fan, Bottom case fan (GPU) Memory cooling. (yes its included but not even needed for the amount of RAM Modules it holded) CPU: E5 - 1620 V4 4C 8T 3,5-3,8 GHZ RAM: 2 x 8 GB RAM 2400Mhz (PC4-19200) GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 AERO 8GB OC (Insane included) SSD: 256GB Turbo drive I slightly upgraded it to: 700W PSU Top Case fan, Bottom case fan (GPU) Memory cooling. CPU: E5 - 2687W V4 12C 24T 3,0Ghz - 3,5Ghz RAM: 6 x 16 GB RAM 2400Mhz (PC4-19200) GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 AERO 8GB OC SSD: 256GB Turbo drive + 2 x 1TB SSD Crucial MX500 i found the E5 - 2687W V4 local for : €60 ish (around 70$) The RAM was cheap on ebay indeed: in sets 2x 16GB around 25€ so total around 75€ (around 85$) THE 2 SSD's came together for as low as €75. Its a not that low budget anymore but around 400-500 € i was really happy with the end result and performance! I have chosen the 2687W v4 over the 1650 V4 because i also use alot of the Adobe Programs and render alot of footage, so i needed a bit of a hybrid built combined with goodish single core & multi core performance.
Hi, I have a Z440, Xeon E5 1620 v3, 32GB ram DDR4 1064MHz, 1TB+256SSD, Hewlett-Packard 212B motherboard. I want to upgrade the case to a budget lighted one with pre-installed fans and purchase a suitable GPU for gaming . which do you recommend? should i replace the ram? can it run shooting games smooth?

Will this cpu work with ddr3 and is the cpu slot bit there you put the cpu in is it fclga2011 or fclga2011-3 because I have a Xeon something and the slot is fclga2011 and I just brought this cpu thinking it will work it cost me 100 bucks😢
I like to build a pc with this cpu because i am on a ultra budget i live in asia and that motherboard you show in this video is not avilable in here. on ebay its very much to shipping cost. can i use chinese x99 motherboard ? I can find ones cheap in aliexpress Sorry for bad english
I might have to try to take a crack at this. I built my PC a little over 8yrs ago and I think it's way past what I need it to do :( Does your discord have a place I could post my PC specs and get upgrade advice or should I just build one of these in the future 👀
The cpu fan part is covered in the video, and detailed with a picture in the video description. Also me mentioned to check the description for additional details including all steps to clean boot, in the pinned comment. For the thermistor, never used any in any of the Z workstation builds I've ever done. They've never been a consideration and the first time I did this years ago, I didn't even know it was needed. I case swapped straight away without it, without issue.
I ended up buying the ZALMAN CNPS 10X PERFORMA EXTREME and none of the standoffs fit the holes on the LGA2011v3 hpz440s socket. The double ended thumb screws threads are too small for the socket.
@CoalitionGaming Yeah it says it on Newegg and Zalmans website but no matter what, nothing lined up. The manual only listed LGA1700/1200/115x/AM4. None of the brackets lined up right.
@CoalitionGaming I found the answer looking for a bracket specific to the LGA2011, and Zalman does support 2011 with that cooler but doesn't ship it with the cooler. The older coolers had the right standoffs and bracket to work, but the new coolers required you to buy the bracket from Zalman for 4.99. Kind of a bummer since they list it as supported, but dont tell you to that the bracket is sold as an extra. I'm looking at a 32 GB Ram, 1 TB SSD And a 2 TB Hard Drive Xeon E3-1275 V2 3.50 GHz though it's 2014 with turbo 3.90 ghz. And a nVIDIA GTX 970 graphics card.. Will it still be in 2023' for games like Hogwarts legacy and Jedi survivor? Need advice!
That will still be able to do well sure but I wouldn't pay very much for it. That e3-1275v2 is a lower and older platform (and only 4 cores/8 threads) than what I showed in this video (e3-1275v2 is 3rd Gen aka ivy bridge) on the more consumer oriented socket of that time. A 970 will struggle with the games you listed, I would aim for at least a GTX 1070, GTX 1080, or Radeon 5700 XT since they are way affordable secondhand nowadays. Even GTX 1080tis if the budget can stretch a bit more.
Very nice build looks really awesome. You hinted on overclocking is the z440 overclockable. On the Z400 build going to 4.2ghz makes it buttery-smooth. I usually sit at 3.8 GHz cuz I need a better cooling solution. 😁
@@CoalitionGaming I tried Intel's overclock utility and others they didn't work for the Z400. Throttlestop was the only one that worked. It may just come down to trying different overclocking utilities for the z440. 😁
@@CoalitionGaminghave you tried installing an xtu version close to release date of the PC/put it to sleep mode then wake it back up (this is the turbo unlock deal)?
Yes i tried XTU from a release date same year as the cpu as well as a modern version. The most I could get was control of power limits and maximum boost time (which I turned up) but no adjustment capability of the multipliers. This would not consistently work either. XTU on locked down mobos like this can be such a crapshoot.
Hey can you reccomend me another motherboard for this build (micro form factor) I searched many places all i found was lenovo p410 but on lenovo datasheet it says it only supports up to some quadro gpus
Does there need to be a fan plugged into CPU0? There's a 6 pin fan header there. Buyers would be SOL without an adapter. Or can they just plus into rear fan and be fine?
@@CoalitionGaming thank you for embedding the picture in the video, but since 4 pin fan connectors have a couple of different notch layouts, will the notches interfere with the 'sleeve' of the cpu0 fan header that flanks it across 5 of the pins? Or can a 4 pin fan connector connect anyway despite the notches? I'm aware that the pin layout is the same between 4 pin fan and 4 pin pwm fan connectors. But the notches are different.
Doesn't matter. The written instructions in the video description say what to do regarding the notch/tab and how to align a regular 4 pin PWM to the 6 pin CPU fan header of this motherboard.
Were you able to get the entire pin layout for that 26 pin connector or just the pins for power? I can't find a schematic ANYWHERE!!! It's absolutely ridiculous. 😂
Nice content! I am a geek at heart with a fetisch for server hardware. So now when my company needs to get a server, I am scouring the webz to find content But, it is really hard, some people show budget builds for gaming using xeons, or some people build systems for crazy amounts of money. But how would you build to get the most cores and clockspeeds for a virtualization server using 2nd hand stuff? Of couse usage matters, but in general. Buying finished branded servers is really expensive, so I was thinking of getting just a cpu, motherboard and memory. But where is the most bang for the buck? Latest generation entry level, former gen mid, or like older high end ones? How would you build a virtualization server for a budget of say 2 000 dollars or euro? Storage does not need to be included as this is not in a production environment and we have a nas just like you 👌
Then my suggestion is a HP Z840 workstation which is a dual socket version of what I featured in this video. A quick ebay search found a Z840 workstation with 2x 8 core higher frequency Xeon E5-2667v3s (32 threads total), 256gb RAM, 1tb SSD, 4tb HDD, and Quadro k2200 4gb GPU for $1000 plus shipping
I made a very similar configuration, but at boot i'm stuck with the Intel boot agent... There is no way I can acces the BIOS, but sometimes after pressing a bunch of keys windows starts normally, and then works fine... how can I fix this? I try all the solutions that I found on the web, but nothing works...
Reset the BIOS (unplug PC then pull the motherboard bios battery, press power button a few times, and wait 10-15 mins) then try getting back into it up many any adjustments. It sounds like you need to disable some boot options
@@CoalitionGaming I already try it, but it doesn't work, I try pressing F2, F10, win + b and many other keys when booting up, but nothing. I try to change the USB keyboard to a PS2 keyboard and nothing again...
Hi there Mr,i have a similar build, but my frontfans lights is blinking with all three fans plugged in,but if i disconnect one of the fans the two fans is having a solid light, howcome??
"Similar build" means nothing to me. Need to know specifically what you have to give you specific feedback. Without that, the best I can say is to look up the specific model of system and/or motherboard you have and look up what the trouble light codes you are getting means. I can't tell you.
So this is the equivalent of a more expensive X99 board. Now my question is did HP update the BIOS to make it support TPM 2.0? That is the question, why you may ask? To save a PC from the e-waste bin and use it for longer years to come.
Yeah basically x99. According to this, it may be possible to upgrade to tpm 2.0 h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z440-TPM-1-2-to-2-0-amp-quot-TPM-Firmware-image-is-not/m-p/8294844
@@CoalitionGaming Well that's good as long as Microsoft sticks with only needing TPM 2.0. I mean due to this they're generating e-waste without any good reason. We all know that workstation parts are sturdier than consumer ones.
Thats too vague though, would need to know for which generation. Most of the ones I dabble in are v2, v3, and v4 and I think i talked about the E5-2667v4 in this video as the best 8 core option but i went with the e5-1650v4 for the clockspeed advantage. I do go over plenty of Xeon choices, including the E5-2667v2, in this video: ua-cam.com/video/oVC9oWBkR3g/v-deo.html
I have just finished installing my PC today but it only starts and turns off, I haven't checked if the motherboard is already updated to receive xeon V4, do you happen to know if this could be the issue? I have installed 2x16gb ECC ram, RTX 4060, a power supply with 850W, SSD, and Intel Xeon 1650 v4. How can I know if the issue is the processor?
@@CoalitionGaming yes, the power supply is connected with the motherboard using the adapter suggested in the video. I can see all fans starting, cpu, cooler, rtx fans, rgb fans and tested a hdd to hear te sound of it when it turns on and it seems that everything is running but it only turns on and suddenly off.
@@CoalitionGaming Just received a Xeon 1620 v3 that I’ve purchased for testing purposes and the motherboard is still giving the same error with 4 red lights blinking and a 2 second pause. I don’t know what to do anymore.
try it with one stick of ram. Move it around to different slots as well. Sometimes it can be picky about ram placement and ram type too. Make sure its appropriate ram for that platform. Some quick googling is showing that this may be an issue with the power supply though, so double check that connection too. h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/Hp-z440-not-powering-ON/m-p/8280405/highlight/false#M70636
The RGB ram sinks do have an option of coming with a remote control and controller that is SATA powered. Id daisy chain any RGB off of one of those. Some fan kits come with controllers like that too.
There are plenty of SATA/molex powered ones that do not plug into the motherboard, like one of the options these RGB ram heatsinks come with. Just make sure the rest of the RGB ecosystem uses the same RGB headers.
Update the bios then double check tpm and secure boot functionality is turned on in BIOS. If still no luck, there are lots of guides on installing windows 11 on unsupported platforms out there you could follow.
@@CoalitionGaming Ok thanks, so what would it be worth if I were to sell, it has as you know xeon and 1080ti, with 8tb, 128gb ram, 1300watts and corsair AIO
That's why I said "depends on your region." I can find 1080tis for around $160 on eBay here. If pricing is different for you, then what you'd sell your PC for will be different than I can advise.
@@victoresarey4036 it really isn't a hard game to run. The system in this video can run it, and many others, easily for example. It's recommended requirements is a quad core Intel CPU and at minimum a 2gb graphics card from 2012 or newer. You can pick anything that is a quad core or higher from say 2014 and newer (or AMD Ryzen quad core or better) and any GPU from the GTX 10 series (I'd say a GTX 1060 6gb minimum which is on par to the rx 480/580 from this video which is also a good choice) and you'd be good.
@@CoalitionGaming honestly thank you so much nobody else has been willing to help me. I'm sure it's a silly request, I'm just not smart at computers so I really do appreciate your kindness! Just earned a subscriber!
Newer architecture CPUs but can't go over 4 cores/8 threads. For gaming? Maybe better. But if you need more cores for gaming/streaming/multi-tasking/editing/rendering/etc then the Z440 is a better choice.
Hey there, I have the 1650v4 CPU in the HP Z640 WS case, I want to know if I can fit the motherboard (looks same as you showed {Hewlett-Packard 212A in HiWi}) in other cases and how do I know if they fit?
Yeah thats why its been so tough to return to Xeon content honestly. The value in modern day budget CPUs has gotten so good, then you have the value of stuff like used Ryzen and b450 boards. GPU prices secondhand has come down significantly...its a great time to be a budget builder. But this is definitely a fun project thats great to see :)
10100f is 80 bucks a mobo is another 80 16 gb ram is another 80 thats already over budget wen u add a graphics card and u dont even have a case ssd power supply rgb fans nothing and UR ON A 4 core this system with 12 threads runs circles around a 4 core idc if that 4 core is at 7ghz its still a 4 core vs a 12 thread
I’m new to gaming pc. And I have a budget of 400 dollars. And I would like to run rust on high settings and other fps games. Please reply if you have suggestion.
The previous video I did about the z440 workstations (linked in description and at the end) benchmarks this exact GPU with a 1620, and the video from craft computing I mentioned (linked in description and at the end) compares with higher tier GPUs
i understand, i was just wondering about the 1620v4 since it's a 4 core part with less cache, and the gpu scaling (it seems to me the rx 580 is a bottleneck whilst still being the best budget option at the moment)
@@damasterpiece08 for the low costs of these parts, I wouldn't consider the 1620 when better CPUs can be had for not much more. My board did come with a 1620v3 but I never intended to test with that. It will definitely come in handy if I do more of these to update the bios for v4 compatibility though. Maybe in a future video I'll run a few tests with the 1620v3 vs whatever CPU I upgrade with before building the system out and see how it stacks up there. My guess is that it won't be leaps and bounds better than the 1620 did in the previous z440 video I mentioned. There wasn't a huge performance difference in CPUs during these generations. I rocked an i7-3770 then an e5-1650v2 from 2013 to 2019 for example. With a 660ti then 770 then 970 then 980ti. Always ran everything I wanted with good results.
Xeon is cheap but it is cheap because Xeons are in 90% of cases used so why not to buy used Ryzen or i5 CPUs ? With them you will not have typical for Xeon CPUs troubles like RAM issue , motherboards that does not support some GPU models and low clock speed. Xeon is mainly for hobbyists and not for casual users.
Used Ryzen is definitely the way to go if you can find them cheap enough, thats for sure. Ryzen really put an end to good used Xeon builds...but I've never had RAM issues ever with any Xeon build lol. Ryzen on the other hand...especially first and 2nd gen? Yeah lol. As far as the Xeons go, have put 3000 RTX series in 1st gen Core-i series era Xeon builds with no issue, so not sure what you mean by not supporting some GPU models. Never had an issue there either. Low clock speeds? Yep, thats why I recommend the ones with higher clock speeds, because there are definitely ones with similar clock speeds to 1st and 2nd gen Ryzen, even if the architecture is slower. Definitely for hobbyists, for sure, but they also work for casual users just fine. Nothing what you said is really an issue, especially just going with a workstation tower and adding a GPU. Their value isnt what they use to be though, but they are still plenty good for anyone.
Actually that chip has a default all-core turbo of 3.4ghz, which makes the E5-2667v4 a better choice for an 8-core since that one has a 3.5ghz all-core turbo and costs less. The 3.8ghz turbo you are citing is single core max turbo, not all core.
you probably are GPU bottleneck with this setup, me running a xeon e3 1231 v3 along a gtx 1080, great budget combo, after years and years the rig keep up with all the modern titles ad good fps and hi setting, cyberpunk, red dead 2, starfield and all the latest cod
cmon this is ridiculous, nobody should not spent $400 on this old rubbish. go intel i3 10100/5F with a gtx 1660 Super for ~$400 go ryzen 3600 with a gtx 1660 Super for ~$450 You get one or two m.2 gen 3 slots for your ssd-s PS: get a better psu for the same price
Well the "build list" version of this I did without the case and fancy RGB dress up stuff can be had under $300 that way. Makes it alot harder for the stuff you recommend to be justified if a person is on a strict budget. That said, I just pieced together a budget system using all new parts with a i3-10100f ($75), 16gb of RAM, RX 6600 (same price as 1660ti, but faster), and everything...came to $575. Great price/performance sure but whats way over your quoted $450. 1660 Supers seem to be around $160 - $180 on ebay, so lets go best case scenario and choose $160. Thats minus 69 so $575 - $69 = $506 which is still more than $400 or $450. Now compare either $500 or $575 to $300 or $400 and you see...it ain't old rubbish. But im with you, if I could afford to spend the extra I definitely would. Thats alot of extra performance for not alot of extra money. But not everyone has that comfort.
@@CoalitionGaming i just built a $400 pc two weeks ago, with a $40 10105F fan included, $125 gtx1660super perfect condition. maybe the prices you say are new products but it doesnt make sense to build new products then go old xeon for cpu
Sounds like you caught a good sale, even if buying what you got secondhand. Lowest I found a 10100F right now was $75. Found a Z590 board for $80 which was a hell of a price though. Both new. You didn't specify whether you were talking about used or new parts, but I did at least check used GPU prices in my calculations with the parts you mentioned. But again, take the RGB dress up off this build and you can get in under $300 and while its easy to justify spending the extra to get up to the price point you claim for the parts you claim, not everyone has that comfort. In regards to not making sense to build new products and go old Xeon CPU...that didn't really happen here either so im not sure what video you're referencing. There are a few new products in this build like the case, PSU, and cooler but thats it. And those parts easily carry over to future builds with better parts.

That's a great value system you put together there! I linked the GTX 1070 in the description as an alternative GPU option for more performance too, and even mentioned how to pare down this build to get more value out of it and in the video about the z440 workstation (linked at end of video and in description) directly show how to get a better deal if it utilizes the prebuilt original more wholly. That CPU is a good starter one to get going at a good price, but like I said in this video, every little bit of frequency helps when you're at a generational disadvantage by going with one of these CPUs. Extra advantage of going with a z440 board tho is the proven reliability of these beasts (and it does have USB 3.0 on front and back). Could be important to some people, peace of mind is hard to measure the value of. Have built with Chinese boards like you've mentioned before with no issues so I'd have no problem personally with em. But it's way more interesting to me to adapt these HP Z workstations into these value rigs.

the z440 is a great platform. with businesses always upgrading, there will never be a shortage of workstations to tinker with. my usecase for my z440 is for streaming, but i know i could do 1080p gaming on it as i've upgraded it with a 1650 oc.
i do know to temper my expectations though as chris brought up a great point about core count. higher core counts doesn't always necessarily mean better. games have to be optimized for the hardware. in my case, i have the 12 core 24 thread xeon. while this is fantastic for workload and multitasking, there are games that won't be able to take advantage of those extra cores and threads, so won't run as well.
Wow man i watched a video long ago from you about a x5687 several years ago and am glad at how well you have grown this production is really good.
That's awsome, you don't by chance have a spec/parts to share?
Just picked up a cheap z440 workstation minus HD off the bay' , thanks for the inspiration and great content !
Just built a x58, xeon x 5690 is still a beast, gtx 960 4gb and playing everything on medium to high on 1080p
Yes, I was running an X79 up until last year. Went X99 to take advantage of the AVX2 instruction set. That was the biggest difference.
That chip is truly trash now. Missing instruction sets, way less powerful than the $35 broadwell chips. I don't know why you even mentioned it.

I'm trying to build one for my daughter and man you just gave me hope that it could be done thank you again with another banger

RAM: 6 x 16 GB RAM 2400Mhz (PC4-19200)
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 AERO 8GB OC
SSD: 256GB Turbo drive + 2 x 1TB SSD Crucial MX500
i found the E5 - 2687W V4 local for : €60 ish (around 70$)
The RAM was cheap on ebay indeed: in sets 2x 16GB around 25€ so total around 75€ (around 85$)
THE 2 SSD's came together for as low as €75.

Wait, no mention of the thermistor or how you adapted the CPU cooler to the HP proprietary 5-pin header?
Doesn't it advertise 2011v3 compatibility? I would double check the instructions to make sure you're using the right ones in the right orientation

XTU or Throttlestop didn't want to cooperate on this one :(
@@CoalitionGaming I tried Intel's overclock utility and others they didn't work for the Z400.

Does there need to be a fan plugged into CPU0? There's a 6 pin fan header there. Buyers would be SOL without an adapter. Or can they just plus into rear fan and be fine?
Instructions addressing the CPU header are written in the video description and also shown in the video 8:36

But, it is really hard, some people show budget builds for gaming using xeons, or some people build systems for crazy amounts of money.
Storage does not need to be included as this is not in a production environment and we have a nas just like you 👌
Thanks. Sounds like you can just buy a brand new one for that kind of budget.

Hard to say. What exactly is the config?

According to this, it may be possible to upgrade to tpm 2.0
h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z440-TPM-1-2-to-2-0-amp-quot-TPM-Firmware-image-is-not/m-p/8294844
@@CoalitionGaming Well that's good as long as Microsoft sticks with only needing TPM 2.0. I mean due to this they're generating e-waste without any good reason. We all know that workstation parts are sturdier than consumer ones.
you should do a vid on the best used 8 core xeon you can get
Thats too vague though, would need to know for which generation. Most of the ones I dabble in are v2, v3, and v4 and I think i talked about the E5-2667v4 in this video as the best 8 core option but i went with the e5-1650v4 for the clockspeed advantage. I do go over plenty of Xeon choices, including the E5-2667v2, in this video: ua-cam.com/video/oVC9oWBkR3g/v-deo.html
what is the best gpu i can pair with xeon 2133 that will not have a bottleneck problem . can it support ray tracing?
I would go up to an RTX 3070 or Radeon Rx 6700XT/6800 with that one. Ray tracing support depends on the GPU, both of the above can do it
I just want to know if i can stream with this computer ? I dont really playing game, moŕe streaming ps5 on pc ou drawing on twitch with a tablet

How did you connect the CPU fan?
On the motherboard it’s a 6 pins connector, but on the fan side it’s 4 pins..?
Answer is in the video description, also shown at 8:35 in the video
@@CoalitionGaming Thank you.
Did you use the power supply adapter as well?
@@CoalitionGaming yes, the power supply is connected with the motherboard using the adapter suggested in the video. I can see all fans starting, cpu, cooler, rtx fans, rgb fans and tested a hdd to hear te sound of it when it turns on and it seems that everything is running but it only turns on and suddenly off.
Well yeah it could be the BIOS. You may need to find a super cheap v3 xeon to fit in the socket to run a BIOS update before putting the v4 back in
@@CoalitionGaming Just received a Xeon 1620 v3 that I’ve purchased for testing purposes and the motherboard is still giving the same error with 4 red lights blinking and a 2 second pause.

What controller did you use for the ARGB?
The RGB ram sinks do have an option of coming with a remote control and controller that is SATA powered. Id daisy chain any RGB off of one of those. Some fan kits come with controllers like that too.
@@CoalitionGaming I keep seeing sata powered ones, but then they show a 5v 3pin to plug in motherboard, are you saying I don't have to plug that in?
There are plenty of SATA/molex powered ones that do not plug into the motherboard, like one of the options these RGB ram heatsinks come with. Just make sure the rest of the RGB ecosystem uses the same RGB headers.
So I have a xeon workstation build with a 1080ti and intel xeon E5 2699 v4 cpu, but it doesnt work with windows 11, can you help?
Update the bios then double check tpm and secure boot functionality is turned on in BIOS. If still no luck, there are lots of guides on installing windows 11 on unsupported platforms out there you could follow.
@@CoalitionGaming Ok thanks, so what would it be worth if I were to sell, it has as you know xeon and 1080ti, with 8tb, 128gb ram, 1300watts and corsair AIO
Depends on your region. But asking around $400-$500 for that wouldnt be out of the question.
@@CoalitionGaming kinda confused, a used 1080ti goes for 300-400, my cpu is also 400, my mobo is also 400, and 8tb is around 600,
That's why I said "depends on your region." I can find 1080tis for around $160 on eBay here. If pricing is different for you, then what you'd sell your PC for will be different than I can advise.
What if we use mechanist x79z board
That will work but x79 is previous generation socket not the same as in the video which would be equivalent to x99.

Could someone help me with what parts I would need to play project zomboid
The minimum/recommended requirements for that game should be on the download page for it somewhere
I realize this but being not computer smart I kinda need a starting point, at least what processor is recommended or anything like that
@@victoresarey4036 it really isn't a hard game to run.

Even better
Does hp z240 is better then 440
Newer architecture CPUs but can't go over 4 cores/8 threads.
Unsure about the Z640 but if it looks the same, it should be a pretty similar process
I think 10100f still is a better value, but this is definitely more interesting for a video. :)

It was also just cheap
Bro Are the parts new?
Where I got the parts from is detailed in the video, and the links also show where you can get them.
compare it with the 1620 , then compare them using a top tier gpu
The previous video I did about the z440 workstations (linked in description and at the end) benchmarks this exact GPU with a 1620, and the video from craft computing I mentioned (linked in description and at the end) compares with higher tier GPUs
I clicked on the craft computing vid and it compares a 2696v4 to a 3700x
and uses a higher tier GPU in the comparisons, yes. (also he compared an E5-2667v4 which is the same cost used as the 1650v4 I used in this vid)
i understand, i was just wondering about the 1620v4 since it's a 4 core part with less cache, and the gpu scaling (it seems to me the rx 580 is a bottleneck whilst still being the best budget option at the moment)
My system is just abit weaker than this lol it cost like less than 200$
Xeon is cheap but it is cheap because Xeons are in 90% of cases used so why not to buy used Ryzen or i5 CPUs ?
RGB is a meme and waste of money
The E5-1660V4 is 8 cores, 3.8GHZ on all cores for $35 on ebay. There is no reason to buy the E5-1650V4.
Actually that chip has a default all-core turbo of 3.4ghz, which makes the E5-2667v4 a better choice for an 8-core since that one has a 3.5ghz all-core turbo and costs less. The 3.8ghz turbo you are citing is single core max turbo, not all core.
you probably are GPU bottleneck with this setup, me running a xeon e3 1231 v3 along a gtx 1080, great budget combo, after years and years the rig keep up with all the modern titles ad good fps and hi setting, cyberpunk, red dead 2, starfield and all the latest cod
cmon this is ridiculous, nobody should not spent $400 on this old rubbish.
go intel i3 10100/5F with a gtx 1660 Super for ~$400
go ryzen 3600 with a gtx 1660 Super for ~$450
You get one or two m.2 gen 3 slots for your ssd-s
PS: get a better psu for the same price
I send you money send this to me 😢
not the best bro let me take that pc down to 200 or 150 and same performance

Gtx 1070 local used market (offer up myspace) $150=$170
With 400 i can make it with a ryzen 3600 or 5500
