    I have a Snowflake and a Zebra, fully matured and living great together in a 300 gallon tank. I have PVC tunnels buried under the sand and a few pieces of coral laying around. I feed them live shrimp from the local bait store. Two dozen for $3. They love the chase and usually eat all within two days. I do check the bait shops water and I've watched them prep the holding tanks on delivery day. Be careful where you choose for fresh whole foods for them. But, they love it and I also do small crabs from the inlets and beaches here in Central Florida's east coast. These eels are very robust. Food are stored in an isolation tank before being transferred to my refugium. Also, try feeding at night as that's when they like to hunt and feed. BTW, the shrimp and crabs help clean the refugium until they are transferred to the main tank for feeding.

    love it, miss my snowflake. i used to feel it about a whole shelled prawn, cut up into bite sized pieces every 3 days.
    I want to get another, but not sure how it would go with my coral banded shrimp and my hermit crab clean up crew

      Mine does great with the rest of the tank i mean 5 of my fish are smaller than his silversides. As for shrimp he did eat two peppermints but he loves hanging out with the cleaners and star fish I also have a decorator crap that chills in the cave with him.

    Just recently took in a snowflake and I have been feeding him just simple feeder fish from petco, it doesn’t really attract him at first until I put on cube shrimp in. Can I coat them in the garlic before feeding him or should I just get shrimp and stuff from local store??

    nice video to tell you the truth i didn't know if i was doing the right thing feeding him this type of food like you say human food but like i said he loves it am going to try the scallops as a matter of fact my fish are eating it to i just grind theirs an my copper band has gotten fatter.

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      I agree with you, a while back i just looked up what they eat in the wild and figured it the same thing just not alive. Eels need different things often to keep them healthy, hopefully he will start to come around. Kind funny the hippo tang is in love with that kind of stuff she passes on the nori and goes for the fish.

    I have been wanting to get a snowflake eel after seeing yours. Do you recommend people to get them? I have a dominant sps tank, so I worry about them stinking up the water quality.

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      My tank is about 90% sps and as with anything you just need to control nutrients. I feed mine a lot along with the tank so as long as you keep up on water changes and have other ways to remove nitrates and phosphates you will be fine. My tank wouldnt be the same without him.

    What is the minimum tank size you'd recommend for a snowflake eel?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      100 Gallon as they get big and very fast. Mine has gone from 7 inches to over a foot in under a year

    How was the eel acting differently?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      He has been staying in the rocks and not coming out at night for the last week. Not aggressive when it comes to eating. I did some research and a lot of forums have been saying that feeding just silversides can cause malnutrition and it has been a couple months that he has been eating just those. So figured it was time to mix it up again. I will keep everyone up to date on how hes doing.

      make sure tank is escape proof. I had one in my old 75 litre (sorry not sure how many gal that is, I'm in Aust), I had it for about 2 years, finally upgraded to a 350 litre tank, including sump, and he lasted 4 days before getting out through a small hole in canopy for the overflow system. Annoyed because got it when was about 12 inches and size of a marble, diameter, when died was about 18 inches and twice as thick
