There were sectors like metallurgy, shipbuilding, arts, jewellery, clothing, logistics, trading, spices, finance, architecture etc. Many of these were products and services were also exported. India had trade with Africa, Middle East, South East Asia, Far East and Europe.
So it was not only about population but India had a thriving industry till 1800s.

Well it’s safe to say that this corridor has been put into shelf because of Israel- Palestine conflict. Plus, Modi’s ill advised move to pledge his unconditional support to Israel wouldn’t sit well with Islamic nations.
Saudi is still not taken the Israel -Hamas conflict seriously,same with UAE
Once the war is over SA,UAE will start steps to implement IMEEC
But will take time to settle ties with Israel
As far as IMEEC is concerned it is delayed by some months
