And when they attempted a commercial approach, they blended in the undifferentiated standardized FM pop/rock, lost their identity and originality of their raw energy, their unsettling and fearless musical compositions and were...basically finished. The same thing happened to Killing Joke with "Brighter than a Thousand Suns", that nearly killed the band's appeal.
After the release of Viva, Manuela Rickers, Fiona Sangster and Peter Bellendir left the group. Anja Huwe and Wolfgang Ellerbrock continued to work with Frank Z (of Abwärts) on guitar. Producer Henry Staroste played keyboards and studio drummer Curt Cress completed the line-up that recorded the 1989 LP Devils, and the singles "Dreamhouse" and "I'll Be Near You"
Good song; but was it from Devils? Don't recognise it at all. Certainly not on any of the previous albums. Only ever seen Devils once. Would appreciate recommendations about where I could get it/whether it's worth effort/money.
I really like this track it is one of their Jems, but the only original member was the bass player at this point ,I think they were trying to make her like Siouxie or something, Oh Well
RIP Peter,you were a great drummer !
They were such a great band
So under rated, every era, including this, their attempt to be commercial. One of the greatest bands of all time.
As a German I can tell you they were not underrated at all in Deutschland...❤

Two of the poppiest songs they ever put out. "I'll Be Near You" had to be the best.

This is totally Frank Z.'s guitar.
