For anybody that wants to save those 12 minutes of their life:
Morale helps with fleeing and attacking. The lower morale, the higher shields are before they make a run for it. And it changes NPC voices.
Other than that, it just helps getting the combined skill up.

Playing X4 badly? That's like watching tv badly, or relaxing on the beach badly. The right way to play is your way (Unless specifically role-playing, which can also have it's own rewards).
Do my defensive ships (anti-missile, anti-fighter craft using VRO mod) need to be civi craft? No of course not, but the Drill is like a 1/3rd the cost of the Minotaur (admittedly, with half the turrets.... still that's 1.5 more ships [and guns] for roughly the same cost). More is good, right? More guns is good, me thinks. More targets for the enemy (Less likely to break shields) is definitely a good thing. Yes, they are weaker, but again dirt cheap by comparison. I also think the turret fire arcs on the Drill are better.
Undoubtedly there are "better" ways to do it, but I rather like the idea of conscripted mining ships being converted with military turrets and sent to the front. Or in the case of X4, given that the Jump gates were recently shut down and every system more or less cut off (and thus a potential target) many may have converted the ships they had on hand to be makeshift militia and patrol craft.

Moral also goes down the more damage done to them and it also effect whether they will bail out of the ship or not, again you can tell from the tone in their voice! I prefer NPCs with at least 2 stars as they easier to train IMO as I mentioned in a previous video you did my friend. Oh this is Dave B and N-gauging this is my twitch stream name lol. Sorry to keep posting with different names not trying to be a numpty. I'm on my new built rig testing stuff.
Keep up the good work mate and I have to admit reading all them files bores the pants off me so I am glad you are doing these videos.

Thanks. I didn't see morale involved in ship bailing, but I may have missed it.

The morale skill is interesting, although, I don't really see a reason to spend a lot on a pilot who has it.

I wonder if those recent Egosoft video's will cover the moral skill.
Thanks for your thoughts. Stay safe and have fun.

To a large extent, it doesn't matter too much that this stuff isn't officially noted, as long as
      a) it is in user-readable code
      b) it works
because there is an enjoyment to digging these things out, same sort of thing as completionism and speedrunning or finding glitches in games.
I'd prefer to be able to say when they need to fight or flee, and to be overridable by the captain of their homebase so that the captain can see if it is winning overall to say "If I keep going I might lose two more but the enemy will be entirely gone" or "I'm losing, and continuing will mean losing lots more before the inevitable end, so despite the ships being still fairly sturdy, I'm going to retreat for a winnable situation".

Im still baffled that the enzyclopedia is not finished in the game. Also many things are bad explained or not at all. Why cant i find anything about the skills and morale on the official manual or in the game.... i really want to like x4 but its hard, it feels unpolished with missing texts... not even all the factions are explained in the game... the weapons have no texts as well. LIKE WTF

Agreed, the encyclopedia and overall information should be more complete at this point.

While for piloting I can see the benefits/disadvantages of high/low moral, I still think what effects it has to station managers or service crews. On one of my oldest stations I checked the staff and I noticed that the manager, although not swapped by me, had actually just half a star in managmenet and 0 stars in moral as if I just assigned some random npc on the station. Interestingly, that station has 17 miners and a bunch of traders assigned to it and so the manager should be way more skilled of course, in both moral and management skills. While the station itself is in Second Contact II where HOP, ANT and ARG are constantly fighting against each other, the station itself is not involved in any of the combat.
This "finding" now left me with a couple of questions: Can station managers be recruited by NPC factions? If so, is there some kind of warning or log-message on this event? Will the manager in such a case just be replaced by the first guy available, even if unsuited for that position? Does nearby war activity even when not affecting the station or the whole faction of that station influcen their morale as well? And what impact does morale have on a station and its NPCs on it?

Any tips on how to gain these skills? I have a pilot I used seminars to get 3 stars piloting, and spent maybe 15 hours of gameplay at 2 2/3 morale. I am mostly running a trade of refined metals at near bottomed out prices, and making 40k-80K a trip in a medium trade ship. I keep a bunch of orders queued up to keep her from going idle in hopes that one day she'll be able to autotrade. I am not sure if it is a split thing, or the 3.0 patch, but it seems like they were training a bit faster before even without using seminars.

75% or lower damaged hull, there will be morale drop if damage is taken, once in 30 seconds. So it is like grilling the enemy pilot out with pressure, if you keep attacking it every 30 seconds :D 0 morale = bail out.

    • @Josivis

@@SHOTbyGUN Thank you, I was talking about Pilots that bail Ship without player intervention. Like when HOP battle PAR without player does 'no morale' still cause the pilot to bail?

Very bad idea to introduce new players to a flight AI with handicaps. They should've tried to always present the best flight AI they can technically achieve (which would still be far from perfect). To make things worse all this number crunching probably limits the battle size unnecessarily. Crew skill + management are X4's biggest flaws in my opinion. Hopefully some modder will be able to erase all traces of this horrible mechanic. But i very much doubt it.
