    Thank you for the end content. I just got this and am considering returning it because of the difficulty in putting it away. Mine is on a van and you have to use a 16 inch stool to reach it. I need the awning to be easy to put away from one or two positions. It seems that a slightly longer strap and slightly larger bag volume would make this a lot more user friendly. So far this thing is like Tetris.

      After a couple years of use I’ve gotten pretty good at putting it up in less than a minute. But I understand it would be a lot more difficult trying to stand on a stool.

    Like the look, might work for cross coubtry trip to ghost towns I could stay over-night. Here's a valuable hint use Zipper Ease (Pencil Type Zipper Wax Lubricant) to lube your zipper, never use oil it will collect dirt and grime. With 40+ years working in the parachute section in the military I know zippers. You can pick it up on eBay easy enough. Try it next time before heading out to use it, it will help make the zipper slide easier.

      That is the advantage of a tent like that, you can leave it at camp and go riding or a grocery run without having to take it all down. We went back and forth on that as well, but ultimately decided we don’t stay at the same campsite multiple days very often. BUT, that’s just the way we travel, everyone does it different and you have to find what works best for YOUR needs. And it sounds like you already did!

    I've been doing a lot of research, for the price, OVS seems to be the best value out there. The price has gone up to $950 as of 9/21. Bush Co. is probably the BEST but it's BIG $$$. The Batwing is less $$ but is way overpriced for an awning that will snap the PLASTIC hinges if you don't set it up carefully. Utter garbage if you ask me. The only gripe I have with OVS, a full set of walls cost as much as the awning!!! Just one section is $300. I just use a tarp if I need a wall.

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  2 роки тому

      Yeah I hate the price has gone up but I ordered a second one through campsaver. If you sign up for their email or text you get 20% off. So 20% off of 950 definitely helps. Also you can get a discount if you order the walls and awning together and then take 20% off that.
      Yeah I’ve heard really bad things about that wings. Bush company looks great but like you said it’s pretty expensive. I still think the best one out there is the Kinsman, but it’s twice as expensive and they don’t offer walls.

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  4 роки тому +1

      Unlike the Alu-Cab there is no kickstand to kick up under the fabric to change the angle. It’s something I’ve looked at adding. In the rain there is some pooling in the middle. To counter that I laid on of the extra poles across between the middle supports which added support and angle to the fabric which helped keep the pooling down. I also had the legs to high which added to the pooling.

      True, but after playing with it for the last year I’ve got it down to a science. Now it’s not a problem to zip up. You just have to fold it in a way to keep the extra material evenly distributed the entire length of the bag so it’s not super tight in one spot.

    Man. The easy way is difficult. Thought about buying but that pack up is way too many steps

      I need to make an updated video. It’s a lot easier than it looks. We used it nearly every day on our last two week expedition. It takes about a minute to pack it away once you figure out the tricks. There’s a great video on setting up and taking down the Darche awning that shows how easy it is. Since it’s the same awning we used that video and it helped a lot.

      It’s large, it needs support all the way down the length. So it’s it’s in a SUV, then a roof rack is fine, but probably not on a truck without a bed rack. That being said, they make a 180 that’s a little smaller, and a smaller / cheaper 270

      Could this kind of awning be used on a roof height bed rack system?

      Right? I hate that they had to raise prices. Seems everything is getting expensive now days. When I ordered my second one I got it from Campsaver and used their 20% off signup coupon. It helped with the sticker shock.

      Homo stuff? Lol, I haven’t heard that phrase in 20 years.
      TLDR: works great. Used it all over the country, from heavy storms to snow at 11k feet. No problems.

      Uh, what? Don’t know who I’m hating on, but ok. We average 1500 to 2000 miles of off road on our big trips, but who knows maybe you do more. I’m not here to judge who does more trail riding.

      Hey thanks for watching!
      Unfortunately it’s gone up in price a little, but it’s still worth it for us. We used this awning no less than 30 times. In the sun, we saw an average of 13 degree temperatures difference. That’s a big difference here in the south. In the winter, we attached the awning walls and used a propane firepit inside to keep us warm in sub-freezing temps. It’s a really awesome piece of gear for long two plus weeks trips, and for weekend campouts, but it’s not for everyone.
