  • Step by step Kirby part number 119096S Fan Assembly Kit repair.
    Fan part: amzn.to/2f2DbdQ
    Venmo tip jar: @AndrewDIY
    Take down, repair and assembly. You'll need a T-20 bit, phillips and flathead screwdriver and some kind of silicone seal.
    I'm repairing a G4 vacuum, however the other G models are very similar in design and use the same part.
    Let me know if you have any questions in the section below
    Here's a link to the part: www.ebay.com/sc...

    You are an absolute darling. The two of us are classed disabled and didn't know where to start with the Kirby making so much noise. Not only did you help us figure out what the noise was, but you have given a perfect step-by-step demonstration. We thank you with all our hearts xxx P.S, this did stop the noise!

    Thank you for the great video! I have a Sentria Gen5 and the fan shelled out! Scared the crap out of me...lol. I spent more time blowing out my Kirby with compressed air, and cleaning than I did in replacing parts. New fan cost me about $12 delivered to my door. In my case the fan disintegrated an damaged the sealing surfaces. I used a blade to get get off chunks and clean up the surface. Then used a wire brush to finish up the surface. Then I used rubbing alcohol to prep the surface for sealant. Great video! Thank you

    Thanks for the affirmation that the fan might be the cause of the noise. I was thinking I fried the motor or something in my Goodwill Store ~$29 G4 rescue that I mainly wanted for the hose and better looking front wheel shaft and section... which I still wonder if I did fry the motor since I recall running funky with some smell and not only the loud noise. I'll continue disassembling thanks to your video showing where the two front plate top screws are I guess I didn't think about looking for after I removed the top back covers. I'll also check the motor of the motor and shaft being straight still. Thanks for sharing! I'll make a video of the sound and reference this video where to detail.

    G10D owner here. Sucked something up and it started making a squeal. Followed your instructions to get to the fan. Found year+ old Cheeto build up from my kids' snack mess last Christmas. It was 1/4" thick in places. Scraped it all out and reassembled. Sounds great and has like-new suction. FYI: Cheetos don't smell like Cheetos after a year in a vacuum.

    I do this for a living also. Better off using a electric screw drive. Plus most times the belt pulley and fan assembly do not come off that easy. So one must put a small wrench inside and lock the top of the armature to unscrew the belt pulley and fan.

    • @jimmytate7587
      @jimmytate7587 7 років тому

      9n my g7 the qre 2 flats on the armature at the end of the commutator. you can just slip a small open end wrench on it and then use a small phillip or small allen wrench of the motor shaft at the front to loosed it...oh the shaft is reverse threaded

    WOW, thank you so much for your perfectly clear and precise guide, i now feel i can DIY'it. 👩‍🔧
    HOPEFULLY, this will do the trick for our squealing Kirby Sentria! Do you think a worn out fan would also cause belts to wear down prematurely? The only thing I've ever replaced on our hand-me-down 12+ year old kirby, has been belts and of course the bags. I probably need to replace the roller too, i bet. Embarrassing, but the center of the wood is so indented! (Although, the bristles were actually okay, err at least I think so with nothing to compare it to. Any other suggested maintenance/replacements?
    Sheesh, I'm surprised this old gal still works with the obvious neglect I'm admitting to here.🤦
    Thanks again for any help you are willing to provide.
    God's blessings be yours,
    Mrs. A.I.R.

    • @AndrewDIY
      @AndrewDIY  5 років тому

      It could be that the brush roll is not spinning freely, that will cause premature wear on your belts, also the squealing could be that as well. Or the fan shaft could be causing the belt to slip. So if you are replacing the fan it should come with the fan shaft. Good luck! Just take your time.

    Hi - I changed the fan per your video; I was concerned how much I was tightening it down so I didn't "batten" it down too much. Put it back together and powered it up. It seemed to run well for a (very) short time, and then almost instantaneously the motor "lugged." (I immediately turned it off). Took it apart again to get to the fan and it had loosened up considerably - which I took to mean I had not tightened it enough. Tightened it and it happened again. HELP!

I just had my hose attachment on and have apparently sucked up something that has gotten stuck in it somewhere and it sounds as if it’s banging around. Mind you I have checked the bags compartment where metal/ hard things usually go but it is empty. Is it possible it is stuck in my new fan causing damage now.

      Posting for posterity: By sneaking a screwdriver in behind the fan, and repeatedly prying at the fan (it will bend), and moving around the fan while you do this, the fan should gradually start to move off the shaft. It took me about 5 minutes, but once it got started good, it came off easily enough. A little alcohol on the drive shaft where the fan is might also help. The idea, typical of removing press fit parts, is to make a little progress on one side, then a little on another side - keeping things even.

      @@andrewcoyne2191 i got the fan off but used a wrench on shaft near the motor to stop from turning.I had to take more parts off to get at it but the shaft is actually notched there to accept a wrench.3/8 or10mm.
      while apart I cleaned with compressed air and fixed the neutral/drive switch.Gotta love tube for all the input!!!Thanks for getting me on the right track!

      @@66windar What other parts did you take off? Still cannot get this darn thing off. Shaft turns freely and fan stays stationary, but the shaft piece will not come off.

      @@kathycowley5097 I pretty much took the whole kirby apart to expose the whole motor.There is a spot to use a 3/8 wrench on the backside of the rotor.While holding on to spindle with a small pipe wrench you can now break the spindle free.

    can't get the belt lever or the fan off. when I twist, everything else twists also

      you should be able to stop the other side turning with your other hand, there is another "fan" behind the metal casing, in the motor area, put your finger on it & then turn the spindle.
      after the spindle is removed, if the fan is stuck, use some wd40 on the shaft.

      Kas S I have tried that. I can't grip the back of the motor to hold it while I twist the front

    • @kass9722
      @kass9722 7 років тому

      you don't need to "grip" anything, it's not that tight, there should be a hole in the casing, at the bottom, put your finger in that hole, while you turn the fan you should feel the other "fan" at the back turning, stop it with your finger & unscrew spindle as described in the vid.
      unless you have one of the newer models, that might hve a different casing...

      I had similar issue. a bit of oil in the two slots got it to brake open and screw off.

      Kema Cat with the Kirby facing you reach back with your left hand and pinch the belt gear while turning the shaft clockwise. Should be easy.

    why did you take off the back cover?

    • @lawrencelamphier4026
      @lawrencelamphier4026 7 років тому

      I'm not him, but the reason you remove the back cover is because it has a tab that goes over the FRONT cover. You cannot remove the front cover without first removing the back cover.
