The akra headers and stock can sound beautiful on this bike. The stock setup sounds beautiful as well but I love the extra grunt with the headers. I'll definitely be doing this to my 2021
After hearing my bike in person I agree with all the comments I’ve heard about the stock exhaust sounding amazing. Too bad the only good looking imo single exhaust available is Brock’s and they don’t sell just the slip on. I think I’d be happy with the stock can and Akropovic header for the better flow. It seems as though quite a few people would agree.
I was really waiting for someone to make a video on this aspect (exhaust sound aka ride-by sound ) , really appreciate your efforts on making this video and perfect timings.
I’m with you on the pipe. Standard silencer looks much better than the Akra and the headers make it sound perfect. As you took it out of the box I thought ‘man, that is ugly’ and then you agreed with me.
Sounds real good, would love to see a dyno map after this has been fitted, to see how much power is lost/gained from changing the flow. As with almost all other newer bikes, a powercommander with new map is likely needed to make up for the changes.
Unfortunately I don't have access to a Dyno, Am sure someone will do it soon though. Rode a couple of hundred kms on it on Sunday and it didn't miss a beat..Pulled well and no backfire on the rundown at all, Sounds great going through the hills....Will load that soon,Thanks for watching, Enjoy

On my 2002 Aprilia Mille R, Stock it came with a massive muffler. It looked like a Cannon. I ended up putting a full race Arrow system on, that has 2 high Arrow cans on side of tail. I could have went with a single and save weight but the bike is already a little heavy. So I went with the 2 high mount cans for sound and looks. People love that loud thunder. I love bike but realize modern sport bikes handle much better. Sometime it's not always about the weight. The best thing about loving bikes is eventually buying multiple bikes for different situations.
I really like the stock headers and can. Perhaps it is because I’ve spent the past couple years going potato potato on a HD, but I really like the subtlety of the stock setup.

Kawasaki did such a fantastic job designing the muffler. One of the most beautiful factory mufflers ever. None of the aftermarket cans look as good. It sounds fantastic with the header swap and factory can. Have you noticed any discoloring on the akro header yet?

In the old day's all my triples were rejetted with allspeeds or higgspeed chambers, yosihimura for inline four's. Nowadays I don't bother just the standard system. If there's an exhaust that can make a ninja 400 sound like my ZXR 400 with a yosihimura then I'll buy it.
I think a Booster Plug with the Akra header will do the job at a lower cost than a Power Commander or similar set-up. The Booster Plug is relatively inexpensive and enriches the fuel mixture by making the ECU "see" an outside air temp that is 20 degrees lower than actual temp. I used one on a Speed Triple I owned when I installed a low restriction exhaust and it ran great.
Yeah mate agreed, We are running a Woolich ECU tune and that seems ok, but would love to have a Dyno to adjust more..Will try a Booster plug in next set up..Cheers mate.
@@AussieKawiman BTW, I ended up buying a Z900RS Cafe for $9350 USD and I love it! Kawasaki really got the exhaust tone right but I am thinking of putting the Akra header on, because I've read that the bike sheds 14 lbs. or 6.5 kg by eliminating the cat and, as evidenced by your video, the Akra gives the Z a louder and deeper tone. Like you, I will leave the stock can on the Akra header because Kawi got that right, as well. I threw the Booster Plug idea out there because it worked well for me on a bike in my past and is simple and low cost. YMMV. Cheers and have fun on your Z!
The appearance of the muffler in the genuine state was clean and good, but it is the tuning which can find the sensitivity which is insufficient 2%. Thanks for trying first. Many references.
Excellent video! You nailed the sound everyone used to go for back in the 70's when they tossed the original 4 tube exhaust and put on a 4 into 1. I know from the comments you are a big guy. How is leg/knee bend for you on a longer ride? Is the bike and seat all-day comfortable? I can pick up a new 2019 for a little over $9K here in the USA and I'm really close to pulling the trigger. I was considering a 2020 1000 SX until I saw a RS Cafe in person. It is a gorgeous bike but they won't let me test ride it. Kudos from a new subscriber. Cheers!
Thanks for the support mate, I love the Z900 Cafe, Feels great to ride, I have a bit of an issue with my right knee and after about 2 hours it twitches and aches a bit,From when i went arse up on a KLR650,but still too much fun to get off. If i was doing more distance riding i would go for the 1000SX but for a cool fun Sunday ride the Z900RS Cafe all the way. Good luck with choosing and thanks for subscribing, should have some more up soon.. :)
Enjoyed your vid , learnt more from this and the comments than all the time i've spent trawling the net for answers . But need to ask is there a Aussie Suziman knocking about also ? lol .
@@dominic9279 , I have not really noticed it, I do ride a lot of bikes though.. But is small thing for emissions or something.. Does fell a little snatchy though..Nothing too serious though.
I’ve just fitted the akra pipes to my new Z900rs cafe. Sounds outstanding. Loud as hell when you’re moving but nice and chilled at a stand still. Only problem is I now have the engine managment light on. Do I need a remap?
Great one mate, We just did another one today, always love seeing the customer start it for the first time.. Engine light? is the sensor plugged into the exhaust? Check that and if not you need it to be in so the computer can map it, In a perfect world i would get it tuned but should not need to...Thanks for watching mate..Enjoy :)
Amazing! The stock pipe looks and sounds fine to me, and I usually switch to an aftermarket first thing. So, your choice to keep the std. can but dump that huge box & heavy pipes is a good one. What's that Ford Ranchero looking car/truck in the front lot? THAT is cool!
It does sound good with the stock pipe, We love it. The ford is the Falcon Ute, Blue one? Pretty much everywhere around here..Good utes, 6 cylinder 4.0 litres go well, Thanks for watching mate, Enjoy..
Just picked up an RS cafe myself. Was wondering if the standard can bolted right up to the Akro headers or if any modifications were needed? Thanks sir! And love the green. Mines gray.
Congratulations mate, You will love this bike,It defiantly is my favourite of the range. Enjoy the new ride and thanks for watching,Also check out the rest of my channel as I have quite a few mods on the Z900RS', Enjoy..
Thanks for the review. Does it still have the low down punch with this exhaust or did everything move up the rev range a bit? Also, I know you said it is fine without a tune, but would it benefit from a tune, or is it just not necessary? Thanks.
Hi David, Still has the low punch if not a bit more,It does run fine but if you have the funds and time a quick run on a dyno by a good tuner may smooth it out a bit,All up as it sits feels great, Thanks for watching, Enjoy
That carbon fiber thing took the (RETRO) right out of the concept. I'm glad you came to your senses and didn't use it. It sounded like it was missing a little when you started it and then it stalled and stumbled a little when you left. Did it clear up or do you really need a programmer, I have been looking for a follow up after your weekend ride but I haven't found one.thanks for the videos.
It was a little cold and i am pretty sure it needed to warm up, I also gave it to it as well, In a perfect world i would get it tuned and as we found when you do this the power delivery is smooth and you get an extra 5+ HP out of it..I am not sure if i put up a video on the ride, will have a look,But it will probably just be saying how awesome the bike is and everyone should have one!! Sorry but i just love this bike...Thanks for watching and hopefully enjoying the vids, Cheers mate..
That combo sounds so much better than the stock system. Kinda reminds me of the old KZ1000 with a Kerker on it. I'm going to look at a 2023 Z900RS Cafe tomorrow and this is the exhaust setup I would want. Did you have any issues with installing the O2 sensor in the new Akro pipe?
Is a great combo, the only one we do. The 02 sensor has a port to screw it into the headers so no problems at all. Hope you enjoy the new ride mate and thanks for stoping by..Enjoy
Not sure exactly on the weight difference, but i would say at least 4-5 kgs. bike runs pretty good after the mod but in a perfect world i would get a Woolich tune done and smooth it out nicely..Thanks for watching mate..
Thanks David Conine,Just doing what i love mate, Drop a tooth?? Great idea... Watch this space....Should we do that? might be too much fun...Thanks for watching, Enjoy..
That new side pipe on the clutch exhaust band. And that new side hack formulator on the dump side of the ignitor. But bypass the the fuel mixture juggler on the down thrust of the double side. It might peel the tamale 🫔 🤔 from the bun. So bunch up strap down its diner time mate.vroom
Thanks for watching the vid mate, Glad you liked it, If you want to do the 1000klms and then do the first service and then the mods is cool, If not it would be ok, I like to ride the bike for 1000 klms and then do the mods as you will notice the difference and may appreciate it more .. Either way the bike will handle it, As for warranty? Should be fine but depending what problem you may run into, We do not have many (if any) warranty issues with Kawasaki's range let alone the Z900, Just ride them you will not kill them.. Enjoy.
The standard looks better. But the system probably works better with the akro slip on. Sounds like it needs a tune or ecu flash. It splattered before red line
no noticeable lost midrange torque with those headers? cuz i love the bike, going to buy an orange one and that sound is awesome but i dont want to lose that torquey feeling the bike has
Silent MotoVlog ,Mid range is still great .no worries there.Orange?? We don’t get that colour in Australia would be different. Thanks for watching,Enjoy👍👍
I had a look at the pipe and it is a slip on, To get any decent sound out of the Z900RS you need to do the headers as well, I may be able to do it as soon as i get it but at $1540 for a slip on i might give it a miss,Unless they send me one up to do this as a demo and i send it back. Thanks for watching, Enjoy...
sorry I'm a bit late to this video. i just got my cafe and was wondering about the long term review. did you ever remap or go to full akra exhaust? great video and review. thanks
sorry for late reply, I just saw your comment. I sold this bike and it is put there still cruising around. We did put the standard headers back on after the video though.I have sold quite a few of these with the headers and all as far as i know are still going great. I do know of a few who have had a Woolich tune or similar done and it has smoothed out the bottom nand given more power by about 6hp...Good to do, Hope that has helped, thanks for watching mate...Enjoy the Cafe..
Aussie Kawiman thanks for the info. I’ll check out the tune info. I blocked the air box exhaust feed and it took away 95percent of those nasty pops. I’m in the states so everyone says power Commander is the way to go. Thanks for all the time and videos.
Great job, video n bike! Did I get it right you take the akra 4 in 1 part with no cat and muffler and the OEM tail piece..simply great..was there a lambda sensor cable hanging down and is ground off by now..or some believe you can turn it into an USB charger ?
Thanks mate, Yes just remove the original headers with cat and replace with Akrapovic whilst retaining the original tail pipe, The tail is a straight through pipe as all the muffling and cat is in the headers. The Lambada sensor screws into the Akra's, Great set up and performs well, i have it on my own bike, Thanks for watching mate,...Enjoy
Hi Aussie Kawiman. I just had the headers installed on my Z900rs with original muffler. I must say that it sounds very sharp, and a bit like a Nissan Skyline. Do you reckon it sounds better with a Akra muffler? I assume the original muffler was made for the original header so it sounded as intended. By swapping the header I changed that setup. Not sure if I should go back to original or look for a different muffler. I do like the weight reduction of the new headers .
Hi Matti LeBlanc, I actually have never put the Acro muffler on as when i compared the 2 it looked so ugly i just wanted it to disappear. By changing the headers it should still run sweet but have less weight and obviously sound a lot raspier...I would leave it like it is and enjoy it, Unless you are not a fan of the sound, I will do a quick video on the full Acro set up as soon as the headers are back in stock, They have sold out in Australia i rekon it's because of my video, Stay tuned,Thanks for watching, Enjoy..
Aussie Kawiman thanks for your quick reply :). It does sound more raspier. I do agree that the akra muffler doesn’t look that nice , maybe the metallic one is a bit better. I did like the original sound when you open full throttle; like a lions growl. But idling or lane filtering it was to soft. Now with the original pipe I guess the cat was blocking a lot of the sound and it’s a bit metallic. Would love to hear it with the akra slip on. I am going on a ride tomorrow to get a better opinion of the new headers.
Just wondering if the factory center stand can be used with this new exhaust? I think no as in the 1 picture it seems to go inside of where I believe the center stand installs? Any comments or have you tried one with this setup? Thanks.....really interested in the Cafe too...the Kermit Frog Green however isn't my first choice...but a blue is available for 2019 here in Canada but at a premium (of course) over a 2018 model :(
Wow you just put them together! Great, it’s easy for me to do the same when getting my new moto Z900RS café. Now I have not owned yet, but I really want thanks to your video! Thanks for your response.
I did not realise, I have not watched it for a while, May have to sort something out., Thanks for persisting and watching, Hope you liked it, Cheers...
Why not fit the Acro can and do a Standard, Acro Headers with Std Can and full Acro system test. Its very suspect when you say, you did not like the look of it, but then do not show us? Of course it sounds better then stock, but better than the full system, we don't know. Also what other changes were made to the full system map to compensate for the pipe? Thanks
Time is the main factor for not swapping and changing everything and doing different combo's , If you see at 1:58 you will see the Acro pipe, I have put Acro pipes on other bikes (Z900 ) and it sounds the same as the muffler is a straight through on both. If i had heaps of time i would swap them out. I have now sold the Acro headers so it is back to stock, Hmm might just put the Acro muffler on and do quick run, Also did not change the ECU tune at all, Just put the headers on, Seemed to have ran well with just this. Thanks for your input and also for watching, Keep an eye out for the Acro pipe, Cheers,Enjoy..
Really undecided what to get...Ninja 400, Z650, Ninja 650, Z900..or Z900 RS. Road use only. Maybe track a couple times a year. Otherwise ride around in the country near my home. Very nice
The appearance of the muffler in the genuine state was clean and good, but it is the tuning which can find the sensitivity which is insufficient 2%. Thanks for trying first. Many references.
Like your videos....good to hear the sound without the cat
But need to ask is there a Aussie Suziman knocking about also ? lol .
No Suziman as yet...But could Morph into a Suziman....
Akro's baby baddest pipes on the planet bar none🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖
Pop a Leo Vince Factory S onto those Akra headers and it would sound deep and ripe.
Шедевральный агрегат!
Спасибо, приятель, это чертовски отличный велосипед .. спасибо за просмотр ... Наслаждайтесь .. :)
Hahaha mad guy and sick bike🤪🤑
best sound
Oh far out mate I'm extremely excited about this bike or an rs with the system
Sweet as, They are awesome.. Enjoy
@@AussieKawiman some people say that the throttle is snatchy what's your opinion?
@@dominic9279 , I have not really noticed it, I do ride a lot of bikes though.. But is small thing for emissions or something.. Does fell a little snatchy though..Nothing too serious though.
Nice sound but I’m not changing a thing on mine. It’s perfect 👌
Sure are a nice bike as they come out.... Enjoy
That is a sexy bike...
Thinking of buying a 2021 RS..... the stock exhaust sounds lame.... thanks for the video, sounds awesome with the "after" set-up!
Great bike, Get one in the garage...Thanks for watching mate..Enjoy
I totally agree it sounds Awesome , does the standard can fit straight on the new headers without any messing ?
Yep Tim Brocklehurst, it goes straight on, Sold another one today with the same set up, thanks for watching, Enjoy...
Those stickers for No Knives, roughly translate to 'no numpties' :)
Nice avoiding that dumpster at the end.
Thanks Beam Doctor, I go through there everyday and did not even realise it was there, Well I have not hit it yet...Thanks for watching,Enjoy...
@@AussieKawiman: Probably unavailable here. Thanks for the info.
I would have liked to heard it with the Acro can just the same
Just picked up an RS cafe myself.
Love the cafe style MAD MAX!!
Yep,The Toe Cutter he knows who you are.... Thanks for watching mate, Enjoy..
i like that you kept the standard muffler! sounds epic! did you flash the ECU? i want one!
Thanks mate, I did not flash the ECU but would be good to do. ave done others and has a great improvement, Thanks for watching mate...
Good evening!
Kawasaki z900rs
A good sound!
A good motorcycle!
Love the Z900RS mate..Bloody great bike. Thanks for watching mate..
yea am lovn it!
me too mate..........
Awesome
@@AussieKawiman Awesome, thanks for the info.
awesome
Hi Aussie! great video! One question: how much wheight difference from stock headers to akra !? Does this mod cause problems when revising motorcycle?
Not sure exactly on the weight difference, but i would say at least 4-5 kgs. bike runs pretty good after the mod but in a perfect world i would get a Woolich tune done and smooth it out nicely..Thanks for watching mate..
Luv that vid Big boy....drop a tooth on the front and walk that thing.....your a great salesman !
"Ditto" 😂😂🤣😁
Enjoyed the vid mate, sounds great. Would you recommend running the bike in before making any mods like this? and would it affect the warranty?
Thanks for watching the vid mate, Glad you liked it, If you want to do the 1000klms and then do the first service and then the mods is cool, If not it would be ok, I like to ride the bike for 1000 klms and then do the mods as you will notice the difference and may appreciate it more .. Either way the bike will handle it, As for warranty? Should be fine but depending what problem you may run into, We do not have many (if any) warranty issues with Kawasaki's range let alone the Z900, Just ride them you will not kill them.. Enjoy.
@@AussieKawiman Thanks for getting back mate. I like the idea of 1000k first to appreciate the difference.
The standard looks better. But the system probably works better with the akro slip on. Sounds like it needs a tune or ecu flash. It splattered before red line
jack bruce ,Yeah probably does need tune but the spluttering was the traction control stopping the engine from reving any more. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Aussie Kawiman didnt even think of the traction control. Thanks for the correction mate. Love your vids
Ye the stand can well nicer set up and get set up on rolling road and air filter upgrade be nice to see the hp different
no noticeable lost midrange torque with those headers? cuz i love the bike, going to buy an orange one and that sound is awesome but i dont want to lose that torquey feeling the bike has
Silent MotoVlog ,Mid range is still great .no worries there.Orange?? We don’t get that colour in Australia would be different. Thanks for watching,Enjoy👍👍
Please do an SC project 70s twin conical exhaust.
@@AussieKawiman thanks Sir!
Awesome.
Sure is Axe Man..Check out the Z1B inspired Cafe that we built.. ua-cam.com/video/4KvefUYoHDQ/v-deo.html, .Thanks for watching...Enjoy
Rawnchy ! Very bloody rawnchy.
I hope you mean the bike ... :)
@@AussieKawiman Ahh, yeh !
Just wondering if the factory center stand can be used with this new exhaust? I think no as in the 1 picture it seems to go inside of where I believe the center stand installs? Any comments or have you tried one with this setup? Thanks.....really interested in the Cafe too...the Kermit Frog Green however isn't my first choice...but a blue is available for 2019 here in Canada but at a premium (of course) over a 2018 model :(
Very late reply here,Yes it does for no probs.I am so sorry for the 3 year wait for my response.Hope you weren’t waiting for me.😂👍🇦🇺
Akrapovic plus standard silencer? It really looks nice!! Great! I'd like to do the same, how did you combine them? welding?
aoba2515 ,Thanks for watching my channel,The pipes just go straight together no welding just put em together,a great fit👍
Wow you just put them together! Great, it’s easy for me to do the same when getting my new moto Z900RS café. Now I have not owned yet, but I really want thanks to your video! Thanks for your response.
UA-cam SUCKS with all the banner ads. UA-cam ads really hurts your great video.
Main interest is cornering ability and good breaking. Have read comments that one cannot really use a 900cc or larger bike on the road? Better to get a 650 or smaller? Any advice? Am 6 feet about 215-220lb with gear with 30 inch inseam by the way.
Hi dry509, Wow so many choice in today's market, I love the Z900RS Cafe, it is really my favourite bike at the moment but the Ninja 650 is a great ride,As you said "you can't use a 900 on the road" you are probably correct but gee it is good to have it when there is some nice road in front of you.Test ride a few different bikes, Hey why not get 1 of each??? Whatever you decide you will have a good bike..Thanks for watching,Enjoy...
2 Kool! AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!😎😎😎😎
Oi! Oi! Oi!.....
It's the duck's guts.
You are a big guy.
I look small on that bike.
The bike is small mate...Well sort of.. The ducks guts alright, she sucks nitrous!!
I agree the standard looks very good, I'd keep it standard. Akropovic can make a better exhaust if they wanted to but seems they are too lazy.
4 years later and all the mufflers available are still ugly as sin. The Delkovic 4-4 look stunning but not really my thing I like the single can. Brock’s is sweet but only available in a full system and crazy $$$$$
