Is my move safe + 3. Can my pieces be attacked on the squares that I place them on. This video fits nicely with the one you did on creating weaknesses and candidate moves.
The example I gave was probably an exaggeration but the point stands, to get to 1000, you just need to find the free pieces your opponent gives you! It’s as easy as that
This looked more like a 300-500 rating range tutorial. I feel like a lot of masters and higher rated players underestimate the level of strategy that 1000 rated players have. Obviously compared to GMs its nothing, but i am 950 and can comfortably score 30 in puzzle rush. Yet i can never convert this into an increase in rating :/
Will try this out for sure, really helpful video. Gotham Chess is good but my ranking is so embarrassingly low that learning a few chess openings does nothing to help me win !
Hahaha, openings definitely won't help too much if you're blundering all around. Just ask those two questions and search like you're finding Waldo and you got this !!
Great points, but would love if you could show similar mistakes in something like the Italian or Spanish game. I feel like by 800 elo almost everyone knows how to escape scholar's mate. Eagerly waiting!
im stuck at 1100 rating rn and i must say people do not play moves like that i play longer time controls(45min/45sec rapid) to get better and people actually think about their moves its much deeper than just finding free pieces maybe in blitz pr shorter time controls but longer ones

So once you get to the 1000 stage how do you get to say 1200-1300 what is the next step to incorporate. Obviously you have got blunders and mistakes etc under control. So basically now it’s about higher level tactics and ideas but what exactly ???

I am so overwhelmed just trying to learn as much as I can when I have time, there is so much information out there. Right now I find myself mainly focusing on just not hanging pieces and leaving unguarded pieces on the board. I struggle really bad trying to win late game, i often have huge leads and don't always understand how to check mate, I often miss wins and early checkmates as well I spend so much time focusing on taking pieces, or defending lol.
hyper gamer haha, generally in Canada, that would be 2300 rated nationally. As for Fide most NMs are around 2100-2200 ish. I haven’t play many FIDE tournaments as I never travelled so mine is quite low

Sean, I'm guessing you were never below 1000. Because a 900 or 800 or even a 700 player would never make a move as pointless as Ba6 (5:22) or Bg4 (4:31). That is really more like 300 level. But two great tips nonetheless - thanks!

My rating is about 700 and this 2 simple questions helped me A LOT! I Knew from begining that my mistake was hanging pieces, but i never understood how to stop hunging pieces, but this two questions solved my problem, now i just have to keep asking myself, practicing and this will becomea habit. When you know what to ask its soo much better our brain seeks the answer when you ask correctly. I believe in 1000+rating will be questions that will help me when i get there.
It's bad for higher levels for sure, but as this is a guide on how to get over 1000 rating, moves that wait around can be beneficial just by how much people blunder at these ranks!
If you understand these fundamentals, I definitely believe it surely will get to 1000 rating. The idea of being a wall that doesn't crumble while taking advantage of any of your opponent's mistakes is enough to get there.

I'm not sure how long ago you were below 1200, but absolutely no one is making 1 move piece blunders like that at 1000.

Ya, this is for shorter time controls. Not for standard games (though as an arbiter, I’ve definitely seen my fair share haha)

NM is national master so your rating would come around 1900 right?

Play longer games when you’re first starting out! As you get used to the game, you’ll naturally get faster
