Great video man. I enjoy hearing the actual sounds of fishing versus some of these channels that play loud obnoxious music the entire time. So, thanks for that lol. I was at the canyon a few weeks ago and pheasant tails were the ticket then as well. My wife actually got a nice rainbow on her first cast of the day. I’ll be up there again in two weeks. Hopefully it’s still fishing well.
Appreciate it! I definitely try to get straight to the point so I try to avoid any unnecessary edits. The pheasant tail sz 18-20 was killing it the whole weekend until I lost it towards the end of the video and had to resort to other flies haha
Great video. I was there over Memorial Day and it was packed. That canyon is amazing. Smaller fish - but still a lot of fun. Yes - that was a sucker. The closer to the dam the bigger the fish. Thanks for posting.
This was filmed a week before Memorial Day weekend and was still packed! I think I narrowed it down to a longnose sucker but am not 100% sure. Most of these were caught a ways down below the dam but the big fish definitely tend to hangout up there.
@@ericdedionisio8236 to be honest, I have no clue. I’ve been using this rod and reel combo since 2019 and have always wondered if it’s meant to wrap around the reel so often as it did in the video. I will definitely be fixing that and thank you for bringing it to my attention!
@@davelopes5909 Every single fish was safely released (as shown on camera) and if anything I’ll be more effective at landing fish now that my line is readjusted. Receiving constructive criticism is the only way anglers can learn how to be better in the future.
Wet your hands. You seem to dry hand the fish, which is bad And - IMHO - you spend a lot of time with the fish out of the water. I know you’re filming but think about keeping them alive. When you dry them Off and keep them out the stress can kill them later - even if you don’t witness the last breath Tight lines
Hey Thomas, thanks for your feedback! It helps me, and hopefully the rest of the fishing community, learn and improve our practices. Since this video, I’ve taken all advice and feedback into account, and I’d love for you to check out my latest videos to see the progress. Thanks again! 'We all need people who will give us feedback. That's how we improve.'
Love the Canyon. Can’t believe there were no other people in the camera shot. Like you had the canyon to yourself. Never had that happen. What a great day for you!
I definitely targeted some spots in between campgrounds. Mostly everyone fishes right off the road but if you hike down into the canyon you can avoid seeing a lot of people. Hope this helps!
Nice fish. As one other mentioned, you need to get your line within the bottom guide of the reel. It will make a huge difference in line management. You probably already figured that out 🤔
@@AWB5555 thank you for bringing this to my attention! As you may have noticed the line REPEATEDLY would snag on the reel when attempting to reel and I think this is the solution to my problem.
Your line/reel are killing my OCD right now. The line gets fed between the reel case and towards the guides, not outside the reel case. The improper feeding of the line is why you keep tangling on the back of your reel (and possibly the case of some of your lost fish). You’ll also wear out the line faster when you put a fish on the reel. The line with rub against the reel and the friction will wear the line out unnecessarily too fast.

New sub. Great video, beautiful canyon. Love that you don’t overset and yank the small ones out of the water. Good luck and keep the content coming.
Appreciate the support! More videos coming out soon.

@@HighAltitudeAngling yeah - higherr up towards the dam can be hit or miss. More consistent further down. That canyon is beautiful.
Is there a reason why you have your fly line rigged to go over and outside of the bottom of your reel?

Same reason he doesnt wet his hands and gives these fish a death grip - doesnt know what hes doing.

how far down the road was this? Looks pretty close to the dam to me
Only one of the clips was right below the dam and the other clips were further down the canyon towards Springer Gulch Campground.
@@HighAltitudeAngling Oh okay sweet! I appreciate it!

How do you have your camera mounted?what size fly?
The mount is called an action hanging neck mount. But most the bites in the video were on size 18-22 flies.
That’s a Pike Minnow….commonly called a Squaw Fish
Appreciate the feedback! I’ve definitely heard a lot of broad suggestions regarding the species but this one definitely nails it down. Thanks!

I love fishing the "C" but them suckers are getting a dirt or weed nap if I hook one.😐
pretty stupid and fucked up, considering they're native (as opposed to rainbows & browns)
Suckers are alright haha they can definitely put up a good fight!
