What a great game. I remember that it was lambasted by many critics for being too tough to play. I thought it was just perfect. Everything that one could want out of a wargame.
You're right. Still, there was something about creating humongous fleets and armies, that just never got boring. (You can never have too many Star Destroyers). ^_^
The only way the game could have been improved would be better graphic (was based on technology of the time), more detailed orders given in battle with a fleet formation system with standing orders and fighter able to be launched and recovered on demand, and having it so you can capture or loss your ships from or to the other side. So you could have an alliance imperial star destroyer if a battle was lost by the empire- salvaged maybe.
Anyway, comparing it to EaW, 3 Star Destroyers coud take a Nebulon-B Frigate down fast by using their tractor beams on it (but then the frigate could convert all it's power to it's shields). Then the Mon Calamari cruiser would only be able to focus fire on 2 Star Destroyers, and the SD's have many turbolasers, so they'd fire back repeatedly, with 1 not being fired at. Once the frigate is gone, they focus all fire on the Mon Calamari cruiser and there's no way it could fight it's way out of it!
Long Live the Empire and Those Who serve under. The Alliance is no more the Empire has gained complete control over the galaxy. At long last the people of the galaxy are now loyal either will or be force.
@Rilurio technically your both wrong/right, Corellian Corvettes are made by Kuat Drive Yards and were used by the Empire so some were stolen or defected, but at the same time they were sold to the Rebellion
The game's main drawback was that at a point, supreme galactic domination just got dull. There's a point where you realise you're just not going to lose, and it takes some of the fun out of tracking down the rest of your opponent's forces. It was still strangely addictive and compelling though.
Great...!! Now I want to play this awesome underdog again! I loved going around and blowing up planets with the Death Star... and the mods they made for it... still have RebEd; RebEdit? Somewhere... I adjusted all the ship combat values so it plays out more sensible and fighters are actually useful :)
@NYG5 ya good point but never the less, it had a lot to like about it. There were a huge variety of units, all kinds of different battles, resource and strategy balance.
@Colfax11000 oh yeah, i mean if you really look at it, there are tons of strategies to use in the game, just with the way the resource system is set up. you spread yourself too thin, let somebody blockade your refinery and mine heavy systems, it strangles your maintenance and just freezes everything. you can methodically conquer eveyr planet, or pick and choose which systems you want to control and glass every other one, use specforces to sabotage your enemy's resources early. lots of ways 2 win
Poor, Poor rebels... *sniff* ... Finally do you know how much money I have lost over the years betting on the Empire...... Alot but every time I just figured they were due.
Mon Calamari Cruiser: Hey I'm dancing and walkign slowly lalalalalala.... *Star Destroyers Drop Out of Hyperspace* Star Destroyers: JUMP THAT NIGGA Also Gotta LOL @ Nebulon-B getting destroyed in 3 fucking shots
EAW is one of my favorite games, but it does have some pretty shitty parts, like the fact that the rebels have to turn into a military super power riviling that of the CIS. And then they released the FoC expansion, which gave us a faction with all the abilities that the freakin rebels should of had. but to be honest, nobody really plays the single player games in EAW, all anybody plays in multiplayer space skirmish battles.
Yeah, that's why I agree it's not like starwars. There are no space battles and that is one of the big components of starwars. There really isn't alot of memorable ground battles in starwars.
@Colfax11000 lol the only thing that sucked about the game was the enemy AI. they let themselves get suckered in to too many decisive battles that shatter their fleet, or they try and capture planets and don't properly defend them, so you can easily liberate them and gain massive popular support in that system.
You know, IMO it's pretty dumb to say "this ship is better because of this and do this and that and I know it because I saw it from the video game". You know, I could say that F-15 Strike Eagle could take dozens of hits just because it could do so in a video game (which happens to be also "F-15 Strike Eagle")
dude agen with empire at war......it seems like everyone would base the match ups (e.g tie fighter - x-wing.....awing to tie interceptor etc....) but obviously not mate!
OK cutscene, but the Star Destroyer destroying the Nebulon-B Frigate in three shots was pretty lame. And I KNOW that Mon Calamari cruiser (or Home One) could've held off at least one Star Destroyer. Compare to Star Wars: Empire at War
Nowhere left to run, all of your top officers are dead or captive, every plant is under Imperial control and your main base was blown up. Even if you did have the hyperfuel to do the jump, how the fuck do you expect to escape them for very long?
Did anyone manage to turn luke to the Dark Side? I heard its possible but I never did it. Everytime I held Luke captive and tried to turn him to the Dark Side he escapes and either Darth Vader or the Emperor died. PS. One of the best SW games ever!
Yes. This plays if you lose the Rebel campaign. The room that C-3PO and R2-D2 are in is actually designed to look like the game screen--it's a nice technique for immersing the player.
This game is old, made in 1998 but still beats the newer Empire at war which i was hoping would be a new updated Rebellion and force commander in one instead Empire at war is crap! All flash! where as rebellion is all strategy and very little flash. If you like true strategy games and graphics are not important this game is for you. Galaxtic chess at it's finest
I dunno. It's too much like Age of Kings for my taste. And how are you supposed to have a Star Wars game without space battles? Battlefront tried that too, but at least they had some ships you could use for ground support.
Hey! Don't dis House of the Dead 2 for it's crappy voice acting! That was one of the best light gun shooters I have ever played! It just got better and better with House of the Dead 4...
...and a few Decades later, the Yuuzhan Vong entered the still Empire-controlled Galaxy and got fucked up big time!
The end credits are just a nice way of saying: "You really fucked us in this ass, commander. Maybe someone else will get the job next time."
"Under your command, the Rebel Alliance has been led to its destruction."
Doesn't waste time bashing your face in.
I miss when games used to fucking humiliate you for losing. Always was rather funny
@@hockseng5245 Reminds me of a game (I forget which one) where Sylvester Stallone appears during a Game Over screen, and flat out says “You suck”. 🤣
I love that. It's like saying thanks to you, you got all these people killed.
Love that game. I'm still playing it!!
star wars rebellion is bad ass.
It seems to be quite a rare item this days too. I checked it out on ebay and most copies go for atleast 20-25 bucks.
These are good cutscenes for something as old as this game is. The explosions are pretty good. It beats the tar out of cutscenes from TIE fighter.
The only way the game could have been improved would be better graphic (was based on technology of the time), more detailed orders given in battle with a fleet formation system with standing orders and fighter able to be launched and recovered on demand, and having it so you can capture or loss your ships from or to the other side. Aww, don't get to hear C3P0 scream "IMPERIAL SHIPS!"
Don't worry. As long as R2D2, the True Star of Star Wars, is around, Freedom is possible!
Long Live the Empire and Those Who serve under. The Alliance is no more the Empire has gained complete control over the galaxy.
At long last the people of the galaxy are now loyal either will or be force.
@Rilurio technically your both wrong/right, Corellian Corvettes are made by Kuat Drive Yards and were used by the Empire so some were stolen or defected, but at the same time they were sold to the Rebellion
its from like 98 or 99, it was their first rts game. ONline multiplay it was fun for a while...
The game's main drawback was that at a point, supreme galactic domination just got dull. There's a point where you realise you're just not going to lose, and it takes some of the fun out of tracking down the rest of your opponent's forces. It was still strangely addictive and compelling though.
Building up is the hard part. Once you've built your forces up, it becomes a glorified game of whack-a-mole.
@DcTremor its a Corellian Corvette and they got hit by a surprise attack, didnt have time to bring their shields up
i built a Deathstar were he was caught... then he turned into an usable character to the empire with nice combat attributes.
this was just the cutscenes but still you are right
1:24 wow what way to rub it in!
the imperials never come from behind like cowards. the come right at you, bro
I use to have the cheat codes to build death stars cheaper then TIE fighters lol, try rebeling when a DS was parked over every planet lol
At last! No more rebels!
Great...!! Now I want to play this awesome underdog again! I loved going around and blowing up planets with the Death Star... and the mods they made for it... still have RebEd; RebEdit? Somewhere... Mmmm....never seen this bit before.Only get the Tie bombers bombing the flying city
LOL at c3po's voice....
I used to be so badass at this game.
lol I was so young when this game came out I couldn't even figure out how to play it.
man the rebelion builds some crappy ass frigates. they get blown apart with one shot. even tho their supposed to have shields or something.
this was my first Star Wars game! I was 8 :D
Poor, Poor rebels... *sniff* ... Finally do you know how much money I have lost over the years betting on the Empire...... Alot but every time I just figured they were due.
Mon Calamari Cruiser: Hey I'm dancing and walkign slowly lalalalalala....
*Star Destroyers Drop Out of Hyperspace*
Star Destroyers: JUMP THAT NIGGA
Also Gotta LOL @ Nebulon-B getting destroyed in 3 fucking shots
Yeah, that's VICTORY CRUISERS! Not Star Destroyers!
Badass
douh!
Using video capturing programs like FRAPS.

Never got to see this...always won :)
@incinerator327 from a technical point of view, maybe. but tie fighter cutscenes are much better IMHO. and tie fighter is much older ...
Yeah, that's why I agree it's not like starwars. There are no space battles and that is one of the big components of starwars. There really isn't alot of memorable ground battles in starwars.
It sure as hell wasn't Anthony Daniels
@Rilurio im so ashamed, got them mixed up :P same rule applies
@Colfax11000 lol the only thing that sucked about the game was the enemy AI. they let themselves get suckered in to too many decisive battles that shatter their fleet, or they try and capture planets and don't properly defend them, so you can easily liberate them and gain massive popular support in that system.

FOR THE EMPIRE!
W W W dot stardestroyer dot N E T
The Enterprise would've destroyed all those Imperials.
dude agen with empire at war......it seems like everyone would base the match ups (e.g tie fighter - x-wing.....awing to tie interceptor etc....) but obviously not mate!
YES! The rebels finally lose!
I actually like galactic battlegrounds. Not really starwars but pretty good solid rts.
OK cutscene, but the Star Destroyer destroying the Nebulon-B Frigate in three shots was pretty lame. And I KNOW that Mon Calamari cruiser (or Home One) could've held off at least one Star Destroyer. Compare to Star Wars: Empire at War
Are those TIE pilots drunk
? they keep swerving from side to side
I never heard of this game can someone bring me up to speed?
Why not just turn on the hyperdrive and run away i don't see any gravity well generators so i don't see what's stopping them.
Nowhere left to run, all of your top officers are dead or captive, every plant is under Imperial control and your main base was blown up. Even if you did have the hyperfuel to do the jump, how the fuck do you expect to escape them for very long?
But the droids are okay, right? Please tell me that R2 is still alive!
Did anyone manage to turn luke to the Dark Side?
I heard its possible but I never did it.
Everytime I held Luke captive and tried to turn him to the Dark Side he escapes and either Darth Vader or the Emperor died.
PS.
One of the best SW games ever!
Are u in control of the rebellion in this clip?
Yes. This plays if you lose the Rebel campaign. The room that C-3PO and R2-D2 are in is actually designed to look like the game screen--it's a nice technique for immersing the player.
ITS A TRAP!!1!
LMFAO.
POWNED.
this game reminds me of empire at war is it like that in anyway.....
Rebellion 2 wasn't an RTS. It was more like MOO, wasn't it?
Long live the Emperor.
@catnipassian what failure ? ooops i sorry i have 10 years old its my stupid computer!
I dunno. It's too much like Age of Kings for my taste. And how are you supposed to have a Star Wars game without space battles? Battlefront tried that too, but at least they had some ships you could use for ground support.
Calm down, it's non-cannon.
@PacificAssault1 FAILURE
Hey! Don't dis House of the Dead 2 for it's crappy voice acting! That was one of the best light gun shooters I have ever played!
It just got better and better with House of the Dead 4...
yes the Empire wins....
Don't get me wrong: I love AoE AoE:Conquerors. It just doesn't translate well to a Star Wars game.
The gamy was crappy but I played it anyway :)
Then you should watch some videos of House of the Dead 2.
I liked it and at the same time I didn't like it.
@blabla19861313 i have 9 years old and i played this game
It looks way better than Galactic Battlegrounds. That game sucked!
LOL!!! and some say this game is better than empire at war... looks crappy
this game looks crap
