Oh.... lol... It's an art I developed over time. I can pick it up and hand it to my opponent or the ref or anyone watching without ever touching it.

When I practice, I am playing the most hated and contentions and critical competitors I know. The one that sends me home empty handed the most at tournaments if gets the better of me when I am home........ me. You play like you practice, I believe that. Thanks for another insightful video.

Wow, that is profound. Up until my late 60's I was a golfer. I would go to the putting green and putt hundreds of balls to win the US Open golf tournament. I was a self taught golfer that during my 50's to mid 60's never had a handicap above +1.4. For those that don't know handicaps in golf, that meant if par was 72, and I was playing a scratch golfer and he shot exactly 72 that day, I had to shoot 70.6 to tie him, ie 70.

Pool and golf have a lot of similarities so a lot of pro pool players play golf and some of them are actually good. - They all steer thier kids away from pool and toward golf because of the money and the respect factor. I just had a conversation with Sky Woodward's wife about this.

      Hi Harley,
Yeah.... There's a lot going on in most of my videos. That's why it's hard for me to title them or make a decent thumb-nail. Most UA-cam video makers in the genre of pool specialize in 1 simple issue and then hit the viewers over the head with it. This is why many of them are getting a lot of views.
My videos are liable to have 15 different issues and some people have trouble taking it all in but there's a definite method to the madness and certain players pick it all up and run with it.
I really don't see them as low IQ dollar signs to feed my ego. I really want to make things a little easier and funner for them and I want to be remembered as someone who never copied anyone and handed them the truth whether they liked it or not.
The sub-culture of pool is tough and playing bad makes it a whole lot tougher so here's 15 more things to make it easier.
      Peace

That shot on that 7 to 8 had me rolling, as I do this more often then I'd wish to admit. But again John, great video and ty for your time. 🤘

    • @JohnDisque
      @JohnDisque  7 місяців тому +1

That was painful. All I had to do is stun it to the rail but I decide to roll it and let my stroke out like a certified moron. It's fine for a player to do that but you have to commit to it and bounce two rails and back out on the 8... I'll never make this mistake again.
      Peace

It takes a bit of imagination but if you can practice like this... it's not only productive - it's more entertaining and exciting.

Good point on using the object balls, like rails, as ways to control the cue ball.

    • @JohnDisque

I see players overlooking this option every, single day. Mark mentioned that it comes from playing straight pool and is common in that game.... And... as you know.... not too many people play straight pool anymore so they're not trained to look for it.

We all have a lot of work to do... That's the thing about pool... The learning never ends and the best players in the world will be happy to tell you they learn new things every day and no matter how great you get..... you can always get better.
Welcome to the family. Grab a beer and make yourself at home.

I was in Hawaii a few years ago and visited the places where they filmed that and other shows. It's not far from Pearl Harbor, which I also visited.
Then I spent the rest of the week hanging out with the homeless population and writing news paper articles on that issue.
It was a strange trip and not one pool ball was hit.

You have your hands full but what's more rewarding and important than being a great father? You should make a video about THAT - it's greatly needed in all segments of society.
I could sit here and blow sunshine up your ass and say you can do it all but the fact is.... just maintaining a high level pool takes an unbelievable amount of time, which would absolutely take away from fatherhood and your kids won't understand it.
600 while enjoying the game, getting away from the house, having a beer and winning your share of matches... AND being there for your kids.... Sounds like a good life to me.
      Peace

I am not convinced that is your worst shot ever. LOL. I agree I think you learn to playoff of or thru other balls playing straight pool. Not played as much now so a lot of those little nuances are missed.

How the hell does a man have the world at his feet and trip over his own toe? It was such an easy out Minnesota Fat could've done it.
Yeah - it's a common issue in straight pool and is evidence that playing other pool games improves your favorite game.
Anyhow - we have some interesting issues going on at this year's Expo - tune in if you get a chance.
