hey would you help me....When i try to test the motor with servo tester it just shakes left and right, only one time it actually spun and thats because i helped it with my hand but i cant get it to spin anymore.
This is amazing! Imagine that anyone who has the knowledge of brushless motors, a 3D printer and a lot of materials can build it's own brushless motor. Also, it sounds like a good quality one. Congrats!
HOLY CRAP THAT'S 3D PRINTED?! That looks damn near industrial use, unlike all the little "functional demos" people make. You could apply ferrous paint (or even printer ink!) around the core to at least give it a magnetic coating. Would improve magnetic PLA even more!
so make your own, Robert Murray-Smith style, and some of his ink as the base conductor ua-cam.com/users/RobertMurraySmithvideos oc if people started printing/casting actual useful blanks (v track, fasteners, mostly printed/cast blocks etc) as tests then all the better as you can pass them to people that might actually use them as a starting base
Yeah but magnetic cores dont need to be ferromagnetic but paramagnetic. Hysteresis is not desireable in a core. But more important would be to know whats the saturation point and its permeability as thats whats gonna give you your efficiency and the torque.
Did you have any experience with winding brushless motors before making this video? You did a great job either way, but I'd be even more impressed if this is your first time. Your wire management skills were great. The only thing I think you may have gotten wrong was the polarity of the magnets. At around 11:40 you have all of them connected side by side, and you label them all N-N-N one side, S-S-S other side - you assume they are all facing the same direction. This is not correct. They are alternating polarity. It should be N-S-N-S if you have them connected that way. Opposite poles are holding together. If they all face the same way, they will repel. For your next motor, please consider making a replication of Joseph W Newman's motor. There is a documentary available on UA-cam titled Joseph Newman which tells his story.
Bu motorlar RC uçak motoru gibiler çok yüksek devirlerde dönüp rotor baglayıp helikopter cesna planör dron uçurtmak için , eğer pervane yerine rc araba kullanırsan bobinler çok ısınır soba gibi tüm güç ısıya göner manyetik kuvet yerine . @@lukemagdalin6169 If the motor has high RPM & low torque, all you need to do is gear it. With proper gearing, you could move a 10T truck with a RC toy motor. This motor is rated 600W, definitely enough for a bicycle.
It doesn't start by itself because there are no hall sensors to tell the ESC what position it's in. By spinning it to start it, this action tells the ESC by means of EMF what position it's in so it can properly align the timing sequence and thus full rotation.
Make a plinth that holds the motor winding frame into a centered position, then, using hollow paper wound pens, snaked unto the wire, you wind it from two spools either side of the plinth. The paper pens (the eco kind made from tightly winding recycled paper) will help you achieve a lot better windings, which is quite important when making your own motor.
Love this project, and it's cool to see you build it! Since I'm 18 months late to this party, now I get to go see if you were able to do that power & efficiency video...
At 11:23, you mark the magnets all with N on one side and S on the other side, so N is next to N on one side, and on the other, S is next to S. They are clearly attracting each other, but wouldn't that make them repel?
The faces are north not the sides, the sides are opposite to each other, they are rotated clockwise 180° while the same face is up so they attract eachother
If you removed the small magnets, it might work better due to the non magnetic PLA. Reduction of magnetic filed is undesirable. Try it. Marking the magnets on the table is counter to prior knowledge. Like poles repel. Magnets lined up in a row on the table would be NSNSN, not NNNN and SSSS. Try it. Line them up as shown on the table. If the marking is actually correct, removing any single magnet from the middle would result in no change in attraction when the gap is slid closed, but I suspect removing one then the gap would repel an attempt to close the gap as you would have indeed a N against N or S against S. Tape a long sewing thread on one magnet to the end. Hang the magnet by the thread so it hangs vertically. Hang it away from walls, floor, etc. Possibly outdoors. Paint the side of the magnet facing North Red. Use that to identify the poles on the remaining magnets. Like poles repel. The side that repels the red side it North. (yes the north pole of the earth is actually a south pole magnetically. Magnets are marked as North seeking as in the side that seeks North. Not many people would notice the north magnetic pole of the earth is actually a South seeking pole as a magnet. Models of the earth showing a giant bar magnet in the earth with the North marked N or Red are actually wrong. Think about it. Like poles repel. Most people do not realize this fact.
Hey, couldnt you print a core, that you can insert ferromagnetic material into? - include slots for metal pipes or nails or whatever??? - Is the center axle ferromagnetic???
there's nothing like this available commercially, because this is made of plastic and will destroy itself when under heavy load. it's still a very cool project though.
@@andrewmitchell5807 Not really the argument, if you make it yourself its free labour but you can buy dirt cheap electric fans these days and use their motors, they are already limited but if you just tear it out and remount it with higher input they can take some heavy load. Its almost 10 times cheaper to do it this way than to build it yourself, but its not as fun.
The stator really needs to be laminated electrical steel. Magnetic PLA is only slightly better than air as a magnetic conductor, meaning this is basically an air-core motor.
Or, maybe, buy an off the shelf bldc and simply replace the magnets with a neodymium halbach array? They could also be epoxied in place to prevent fatigue failure and to reduce vibrations. I'm not 100% sure that'll work, is there a reason it won't work?
You can look up the original in operation on a model plane over on Flite Test. It melted during the second flight. Neither flight was more than a few minutes.
Maybe but the point of the halbach array is to allow a good magnetic circuit without using a flux ring. Maybe watch the original video where the designer discusses this.
Great job. What printer you personally recommend ? I am thinking to buy one but I have no experience with such printers and would be nice get some recommendations. Thanks
@11:15 Wait the Magnets would not sit next to each other like that unless they had alternating directions! So you making all the north up can't be correct! Are you sure that is how you did it?
Cool it is the outer that is exploding due to expanding under full load so maybe you could add 2 or 3 non magnetic metal bands around the outside so it doesn't interfere with the magnet to reinforce it abit like a band they put at the top and bottom of a wooden barrel.
This is going to sound like a really dumb question, but can you use these on really big drones? How hard is it to make powerful and effecient motors for drones, or is there some really complicated engineering that individuals can't build alone that I'm not aware of? Just curious.
Nice job! I made it myself but when using a VESC it worked horribly, be ware. Not the motors fault more so the ESC as due to there being little to no back EMF its unable to calibrate properly but perhaps im doing someting wrong. It would be awesome if you could give it a try on an VESC and see what you come up with.
PLA works for low temperatures, doesn’t it? So, there will be no profit with magnetic PLA, as you won’t be able to use all power. May be just an increased efficiency will joy you )
13:08 your thumb on outer shell looks Z seam is not random. I know it is a detail, but these rotated parts is better to be z seam randomized (in slicer sw)
are there any good references for the theory behind this? for example, if I wanted to design a similar motor with more torque? or a similar motor with different dimensions? A design process segment would be very much appreciated
Without magnetical material in the rotor huv withe the coil you actually will made a cogging free motor, perfect suatible for high performance actuators how not suffer from the sticky effekt and make unlinearity betwheen current and force. Perfect for high acuracity precision in angular control. Also for every low power generator self starting Wind turbin for example it would be suatible (easy self starting at low wind speed, no stick effect no cogging). So there is some benefit with iron free coil hub, even if it not as high peak power as with iron rotor.

I didn’t know borat made UA-cam videos!! And they are really good! Much better than his 2nd movie!
