Why would you make an Age of Empires game and not base it on history? Why use a generic fantasy story with an unspecified "empire"? It's not like history is trademarked...
because this is just a lazy reskin of some generic J/K-rpg
Because that's easier
Ill never understand mobile gaming yes...I guess it makes sense in less rich parts of the world, but else...
What to expect from a shitty Tencent subsidiary. These studios only exist to mobify famous IPs for quick cash, just like Diablo Immortal
yup ppl just have it backwards: This is not an Age of Empires, history based gamed "made into" a generic fictional medieval type of game, it's a random basic shovel ware mobile game with an AOE sticker on it.
As Viper said, it's per se not a terrible bad thing, and potentially benefitial for the AOE brand in general, but it is also absolutely valid to not condone these type of predatory gacha mobile games in our society out of principle.
I haven't played the game but I formed an extensive opinion on Raid Shadow Legends on my own, and I assume this goes for this or a lot of other mobile games aswell: For what they are, mechanically and what their purpose and place in the gaming economy of a random player is - they are fine games. I found the first few hours of RAID very enjoyable and as more of the game with different game modes etc opened up I was actually quite impressed. Without going into much detail, the point I want to make is: If it wasnt for the predatory monetisation, in my opionion Raid was a good game. If one could imagine the game released as a "regular" PC game or mobile game for that matter, with an usual (low) or no upfront cost and no further paywalls (idk imagine League of Legends or Guild Wars), just the bare gameplay loop (reimagined to not rely on the boosts from microtransactions) I would still play it occasionally in my phone today. But the aggressive and increasingly toxic exponential growth of ressources needed, time waited (if not counteracted by paying real money) will always kill a game for me, sooner or later, depending how rapidly the game wants you to bend over.
I expected a horrible game and somehow I'm still disappointed.
You probably haven't played mobile games recently.
@@DmytroBogdan mobile games still suck
@@AkuGantengCuy agree but we doesn't know the OP's definition of "horrible game"

@@DmytroBogdan but all rts mobile games is sucks 😡
"guys, if you ever see me stream raid shadow legends, you should know I'm in deep shit and really need money" are you sure it's still available? 😅
This is a 2 year old Chinese mobile game called Return to Empire, reskinned with AOE assets clearly without the involvement of any main AOE team. I have no idea why Microsoft thought this was a good idea.
Return to empire was also AoE title, they did not reskin it
Additionally, it is also a clone of rise of kingdoms, with almost exactly the same UI and items with exactly the same gameplay.
Lol rise of kingdoms came before that return of Empire shit
@@namandhasmanayou know what? The character look exactly like return of empire, and it's even the same company call Timi, but i think is this one is more p2w
This looks like next level crap, shame on whoever allowed them to use the AOE name.
Phil Spencer and co.
What a trash. Thank you Viper for debunking it
There is so much AoE2 could take from this game. Imagine being able to spend 3000 coins to give your crossbows or monks +1 range for next week!
This is the way to go. But why only one range. I want 2365% more range.
@@SoIstDassAlso yes, but that will cost you 27500 gold (95% discount) and is only available if you have Premier membership
A game made to milk money not for the player. What a weak world we live in.
What did we expect? Nothing i would say
Truly some of the worse and most generic game dialogue I have ever heard. Absolutely terrible 11
I've seen no gameplay in this video... I don't see the point of this product.
It’s to spend money
How is this an AOE game..
By title only.
$$$
It is rise of kingdoms dressed as AOE2.
Its an exact reskin of rise of kingdoms, and probably hundreds of other mobile games. They didn't even bother changing the hero screen with the hero tomes and skill points. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same company buying rights to popular franchises and reskinning their game a million times. Funnily enough, they probably resused the same heroes as rise of kingdoms, since that game also used real-world heros/generals.

An arrow with a badly made stone tip. 😂
Well, longbows *were* the demise of knights in plate armor as the ultimate soldier.
No way AOE shit all over their name like this.. Why would you make a game like raid shadow legends or thousands of other games similar to this and make the name AOE?.. What a waste of franchise and other opportunities.. The idea of a Real AOE game on mobile just thrown out the window. I hate playing mobile games but I was looking after this one. Such a shame.
money dude
Same as with microtransactions answer is always more money. Just like Viper said, this soulless cash grab is probably gonna generate more revenue than any previous AoE title.
I assume M$ really need some money now that they've bought Activision Blizzard.
If M$ wasn't such a shitty company before, now they definitely are, with those likes under their wings.

Seriously. Justice for Age of Noob!
these kinds of games tend to be made for the asian market
in asia its normal to spend in games to get ahead, whereas here in the west ppl find it ultra cringe
China has recently cracked down on the Gacha industry with more laws against it.
@@NoraNoitaCan you elaborate? I play some of them, without spending a penny ofc, what happened?
@@NoraNoita what laws LMAO
Spending money on a mobile game is very rare in India. I would even say more rare than it is in the west (atleast the US). In the US( maybe west) , there are lot of expenses made with the "let's support the developers" mentality which isn't really how the asia market responds. It is more cutthroat and driven by game experience. And people who are susceptible to overspending and getting addicted to mobile games can be from anywhere.
People don't have expendable incomes outside of US and EU.
Not downloading this shit ;D
oh boy, In-app purchases, stay away from this one Vipi, the wallet warriors will destroy you.
Honestly I'm kinda baffled. It looks like the did a generic medival strategy game with some fantasy elements and slapped the Age of Empires brand across it. I thought they learned from Castle Siege...
This game had so much potential, like actual AoE stylish mobile game, where everything practically works similar but it's made for mobile users.
Perhaps they wanted something different, instead of copying AoE and moving it to mobile phone, but definitely could have been better. 😅😅
Yeah, instead of making AoE they copied 7000 other games that are literally the same, including mostly the same heroes... the only difference is in the name.
But I think a lot of these types of games have a lot of big spenders playing, so I'm pretty sure this is just a cash grab and not something made for fans of AoE.
@@timihari yeah that's most likely what's going on.
This is shameful, everyone who has worked on this should be ashamed of themselves.
You know what makes this game even more sad? Company of Heroes, the original, is on iPad. And it’s literally THE game. It’s not some crappy mobile rip off. It’s full CoH 1.
The Age of Empires PC Developers sold the rights to a chinese mobile game publisher/developer, this is the result.
Do you guys not have phones?
Best comment 😂
I am here before they take down your video on Rise of Nat.....I mean Age of Empires Mobile ☺️☺️☺️☺️
When I was working on one of these kinds of games, we had a problem when 1 player wanted to spend 40,000 $ in one day and couldn't because it was more than our daily offer of items xD The boss was mad and we had to change it to let customers like this one spend an infinite amount.
The fun fack is that real casino games have many serious restrictions about spending money while these kinds of mobile games have almost none which means that casinos i more healthier than this.
Your comment made me think a lot about it. Thank you.
If AOE needs money, Make Battle Packs... Make better Icons, Update clans, make it more draggable. Let players show other that they are supporting the game.
FOR KARL !! *proceed to rock and stone*
Can say a lot but briefly, Huge respect for TheViper for keeping sincere and being able to say no. Hope he finds sponsorships that appreciate his content and make even more revenue than current marketing concepts of mobile games.
Of course the millitary power goes up with the mill, stands to reason. It's not the barracksitary power.
I feel like the original reason why fake in-game currencies were added was to cut down on credit card transaction fees (still a valid reason), but now it's all scams.
Or to have something you can get a little bit by playing, so you can have a "taste", but not enough to satisfy you, and make you want to get more and pay.
@@thomasfplm That's a good point.
To be fair, AoE1 had military upgrades in the storage pits and walls and tower upgrades in the granary. If anything that aspect is more true to the AoE brand than AoE2 is.
"Games like this can be addictive" - TheViper 2024
WE has been mismanaging this franchise for awhile now.
44:15
There are people who complain about games that sell cosmetic stuff.
But I think it is way less predatory than this kind of game in this video.
I don't have a problem with paid cosmetic stuff.
You are a goat for not sponsoring raid shadow legends. I wasted a thousand euros on that game in like 2 months before my bank had an intervention with me. Addicting evil game.
Nobody sponsors them. But they did sponsor him in the past, he just doesn't need money (that badly) right now. And while most similar games are made to convince people to spend money, they're not evil nor are their developers, it's just business. It's really your own fault for spending the money and not limiting yourself. But at least you have a decent bank who talked to you about it, most would just let you spend all your money. Unless that was all your money and that's why they intervened I guess. Anyway, best advice I can give is to not spend any money on IAP ever. If you really want to though, always set yourself a limit for a certain period of time. I used to play a similar type of game and I had a lot of spare money at the time, but I still limited myself to 100€ per month. I did go over that a few times, but only by like 20€ so it wasn't a big deal.
@@timihari the game is specifically designed to make you addicted by ramping up the "packs" you can buy from 1 cent to like 30 euros slowly over time, constantly adding more powerful things to get. It's addictive. It's gambling in a new coat. It's 100% evil.
You know your game is evil when it makes banks look friendly : p
@@timihariWas the return key a microtransaction on your keyboard?
@@HeyItsMax I don't understand the reference/joke, so I'll just say maybe.
Mobile games will be mobile games. They are not for me, but people obviously like them. However, why the fuck are we talking about a magic sword? And these aren't real people from history. This tutorial campaign is just full of unoriginal fantasy tropes and stereotypes. That is enough to tell me this is not Age of Empires.
The worst part is that there are actually good mobile games, but they are rather rare and the industry doesn't seem to want to change it...
Magic sword is not the problem. Age Of Mythology also had magical elements and I loved it. I don't mind magical elements. The game must have the same mechanics as Age Of Empires that is what I want. If it doesn't have Age Of Empires mechanics then I won't play it.
Not all mobile games are bad. There are some great mobile games too. You need to play "Art Of War 3: Global Conflict". BEST GAME EVER. You won't have a single complain in that game I can guarantee this.
What a waste of a good IP. Insane how every mobile game nowadays HAS to be a cash grabbing piece of garbage.. its sickening, and sad this other UA-camr was banned and degraded by the company for saying the truth
the voice aacting...? did they just ask whoever was in the office?
They asked when only the janitor was around lol. And he still did a far better job than this scam deserves
We just need the classic AOE2 on mobile. If they can do it with other games from the time like Roller Coaster Tycoon, then they can do it with AOE2.
Only thing this has in common with Age of Empires series is... name... for some reason...
I hope the developers really fail so that they finally understand that we don't want any more pay to win crap, we just want Aoe2 for mobile
Am i the only one thinking that this looks better than expected? There is no way I download and play it, but thats mainly because I am not the target audience (i dont enjoy games except for aoe2 and have no interest in playing mobile games).
Moreover, I don't perceive the development and sale of this game as particularly immoral; there are plenty of other professions I find more concerning.
That being said i totally agree with the vipers commentary and conclusions on the game. Thanks for not being a sell-out and criticizing where criticism is due.
Chinese , and Latins x3 ( Western Romans, eastern Romans, and future Romans).
Now they have to add the Holy Roman Empire, the Italians, the Spanish and any other Romans they can think off.😂😂😂😂
I think no one without brain damage who ever played aoe would play this. If i want game "wait 2 years for finished a building" nonsense I'm playing Rok or one of millions similar games .
This game does not target PC players
Looks crap. Just gonna be like every mobile strategy game, pay to win.
I play a mobile game called "Art Of War 3: Global Conflict" which is a MASTERPIECE. This game will give you all the feels of Age Of Empires, Command and Conquer, all these classic legendary strategy games. This game is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to everyone who haven't played it yet. I can guarantee you that you won't have a single complain about this game. In fact I can guarantee this too that you will play this game more than your PC and console games. It's the BEST GAME EVER. You may think i m crazy but you will say the same thing too once you play it. "Art Of War 3: Global Conflict" deserves all the fame and success. I don't understand why it only has 10 million downloads. You will have the same question in your mind too after playing the game. It's the BEST GAME EVER👑👑👑👑👑👑. I think this game needs more advertising to let people know about it.
I was expecting a game like age of empire 1 or 2 ! This one is a lost of time , its like normal strategy game
Hard to believe that a game made about 20years ago, played on Java phones could be better than this. A disgrace really. Wish I could just play AoE Mobile on a Java again. This is sad really

loot box gambling....This is fine for people who may occasionally want a boost for a relatively small charge, but these are designed to extract from gambling addicts.
Yikes! What a mess.
Hey Vipy... thanks for not needing the money and staying neutral.
I sure hope Microsoft comes at you with a money bag.
Total garbage. Shame for the AOE franchise.

Diablo Immoral looks like a masterpiece compared to this
Hi Viper. Thank you for being truly honest even though your salary kind of depends on Microsoft. I also hope it won't backfire to you. There should be more streamers like you. 👍
Thank you for being so open about the reality of games like this
Tbh. I don't want to sound pessimistic, but mobile games like these show everything that is wrong with our modern society. And I am not even kidding. It is a shame that these games are basically the most profitable on the whole market. I just don't understand how people can have such low standards that they like to play these games and, even worse, put thousands of dollars into them...
Wait, so there is a completely different game for the opening? Why would you even do that?
Shame on those who named it "AoE" mobile
It seems, like most mobile games, you need to put lots of time to level up. There are too many levels and details from alliances skills level ups market use etc etc. Maybe one more round under the guidance of a pro mobile stratergy gamer would help us understand this thing better.
What could be pro gameplay for this game? The only games on mobile are shit like genshin impact/ league of legends type games on rts, pubg type games, rpg games and indie games
@@princejangra5298 I personally dont play any mobile games, But I am sure that people who do play mobile RTS games probably have a different prospective and I remember Age of noob saying that the game has surprising depth. So maybe, apart from the obvious money grab, there might be things fun about the game which viper missed.
They could have monetized AOE3 cosmetics and made us unlock civs via grind, why make this such a low quality game?!
A.I will make games like these in 10 minutes.
Hahaha sucks building upgrades or troops upgrades with tiers as monotonous rts mobile trash 😂
This has strong canadian devil vibes
I understand true rts is difficult to make for mobile, but this is a gross smelly stain on AOE's name. Judging by the "story" ambiguity in regards to "the empire, the princess, the holy sword", mixed with the bad voice acting that starts to sound asian halfway through, and the league of legends hero gameplay, makes me think this is 100% chinese shovelware. Cant wait for the fake commercials that uses aoe2 gameplay to make you think it might actually be an actual AOE game.
Been playing the Chinese version for 2 years, seems they made some major changes in hero system.
The CN version is super pay to win ... their best hero(only one that has a AOE matk can hit 5 enemy at same time) is locked at 2500 pulls. which cost around $5k for each copy and max rank needs 8 copies of it. And those whales with max rank of that usualy can easily fight 10 free to play players in the battle. 😅
That's why mobile games so unclean greeds

Wow this is the saddest thing I've seen in a while
Props to the team and Microsoft to allow this game to flourish. Gameplay is top-notch and GOTY-level development. Can't wait to not play this game! Not super excited!
Nice to see vils still build by using a big hammer
Looks a hell of a lot like aoe 4 which checks out aince people have been saying it basically looks like a mobile game ever since it came out
I thought and still think that AoE4 looks great. At least the Buildings and Maps look really good. Unit Design is kinda a compromise I could live with, regarding the overstylized weapons for readability. What I found really offsetting in regards of looks was the animations. Archers firing animations weren't in sync with the actual arrow. Siege weapons packing and unpacking with this comically animation and their death animation just being "generic non-firey explosion" for everything, while AoE3 had really pretty pack/unpack and death animations for their 3D siege models and even AoE2 has these.
The game could have been a great one, if they didn't botch the release and pushed the game in such an unfinished state.
This mobile game tho, I don't think it ever had a chance to be a "real" game...
EDIT: They just should have used the code for Age of Empires Online and made a mobile version out of that. AoE Online was a great game imo, but it pretty much stood ahead of its time in 2011.
Actually, AoE 4 state for the moment is great. It's polished and feels great. Visuals are cartoonish for a better readabillity. But what really stands out there is it's audio design. Voice acting, sounds of battle, you can even see the evolution of languages from Age I to IV. Just listen to Rus Feudal Age theme, then Imperial. You will feel how it transforms from Rus into Russia.
Currently, AoE4 is really much better than at the start, both in sense of gameplay and perception.
Don't judge it for not being AoE 2. 😅
@@HQbaracuda Well I have to admit some aspects of aoe 4 graphics slaps, like how in age of noob 's videos water looks great ( I guess he is playing on the highest settings or whatever) whereas when I watch beastyqt or fitzbro or anyone else it doesn't even remotely look as good.Similarly some troops like certain man at arms or fully upgraded camels or holy roman knights absolutely look cool. But overall I don't like the graphics of the game
@@Ignismari But that's the thing, tho. The game has "Age of Empires" written in its title, so it naturally has to compete with its predecessors. And AoE2 isn't even the main one it has to compete against. I think AoE3 is way closer when it comes to looks and feel and even AoE3 did a way better job with that in 2005 (that's 16 years earlier then AoE4). AoE4 launched in an abbysmal state and it didn't help the game at all. They should have delayed the launch by minimum a year and focus more on the singleplayer aspect (e.g. a better campaign and better looks and feel) instead of focusing almost entirely on competitive multiplayer.
@@HQbaracuda I agree with you on the fact that AoE 4 is multiplayer-oriented game. Not always competitive as FFA and fun match-ups are a huge thing for the community.
Nonetheless, AOE4 has some good singleplayer companies. It's not the level of AOE2, but I think it's quite decent, especially in terms of introducing players with history of different countries.
By the way, audio is deffinetly not only one strong segment of AOE IV.
First of all, it's team is doing a remarkable job at keeping the game balanced. Every civ is in 50 +/- 5% winrate (pretty much at every ELO) and there are 16 of completly unique gameplay-wise nations. Which is crazy if you think about it.
Speaking of uniqueness, it's another strong component of AOE IV. I'm talking about gameplay of each civ. In my opinion, it's really authentic and cool in historically-themed RTS to use strengths which for every nation historically was known for. You will most definetly use special units in all of your games, not just ones where you have a castle. Also life-based economical bonuses is part of the game, which is simply fantastic. For example, as playing as Rus you're gaining gold for hunting deer since fur trade was a crucial thing for it's economy IRL.
As for me, Medieval theme was the thing why I recalled AOE franchise in my memory in the first place. The 4th entry of this series is doing greatly at representing this aspect of the AOE.
To sum up, the game feels solid in it's current state and actually brings you some satisfaction of playing it.

have anyone seen the age of empires game for mobile? It's called game of empires, nothing like original though. but AOE defo needs to make pc game to mobile though, as game play for it is more like the clash of Kings style etc of a pvp, aoe moving to xbox was nice but even more harder with controller but only 1 game that compete with AOE is called Command&Conquer generals&zerohour

I don't liket that "tutorial". It just jump around everywhere and you can't explore/try anything. More look like a showcase
Even some games which made by small dev teams are much better than this shit.
First 5 minuted and it SCREEEEAMS chinese mobile garbage. Unrealistically beautiful waifubait protagonist, generic garbage statements that mean nothing like "eternal sun" and "holy sword" (why does china like these empty terms so much??), beautiful graphics to try and hide how shallow the game is
This makes me cringe so bad
For the last about 10 years I am waiting for AOE mobile game to finally play a real RTS game on mobile instead of cashgrab clash of clan style wanna be RTS games. And instead of being the best mobile RTS game in the history thez make another clash of clans game.
Sorry but CoC is a good and honest game compared to this crap

As long as they are still caring for AoE2, I am fine, they can try to do a FPS called "Age of Duty" or whatever hahaha

I tried to play for some time, but it was sooooo boring.
And completely pay to win.
Wait so the tutorial plays differently than the rest of the game? If its case isn't that some sort of scam? No? Why not just port aoe1 into mobile with UI and mechanics made to fit the mobile playstyle why go through the hussle of whatever this is
Despite what this game is I support it will earn much more money than other games and thanks to that they may use earned money to improve actual good REAL Aoe games
