Another banger 🔥 from Agbaletu ❤. This guy is smart ,exposed, and frank 👌. It is good to have financial independence. Leadership on every facet in Nigeria is terrible. They see the position of leadership as an opportunity to oppress their followers. It is quite unfortunate that most of the oppressed will still be defending their oppressors. I love you, Mr Femi Sanya.
Kudos Dele Adeyanju, you are changing history 👏.

It is very difficult to say that Juju Music has no structure when the likes of KSA had been nominated for the highest award in music twice - the Grammies.
KSA has recorded some of his greatest albums on foreign labels such as Mango, Island, MESA and Atlantic records. He once had Martin Messionmer as his foreign manager and later it was Andy Frankel.
This is a man who has recorded Yoruba - Juju music with Manu Dibango, Stevie wonder & for Capitol Records for one of the World cups. There is just no way I can agree to a notion that his music is not structured. You may not like him, but to say his music is not structured to me is an insult to perhaps one of the greatest Nigerian musicians whose brought glory to their Motherland.

@@doncomo4737 I actually stopped at about 15 minutes of the interview because he was just mixing up everything. In my entire life, I have never heard that Fuji music is more structured than Juju Music. I was shocked! That is his own opinion anyway. The guy is obviously bittered, no doubt! Whatever happened to him while he was a band member is non of my business as far as the interview is concerned. But rating Fuji higher than Juju is a turn-off for me, ahhh! He's just allowing emotion to control his thoughts. Dele Adeyanju too knows the guy is just blabbing. FUCK!!!

Bob Aladeniyi period that he was referring to was over when KSA Golden era picked up..
He was short of referring to KSA as a failed musician.
He practically referred to one of the most creative musician as a one way musician...
What kind of stupid music Shina Peter is playing? His music lacks depth

@@doncomo4737 You can say it again and again. His assertions aren’t founded at all. I have gone on to listen to some of KSA’s recent releases such - Grace of God, Happy Moment and Morning Joy just to mention a few and they all sound different from each other and the arrangement of the music is nothing but class & brilliance.
Bitterness is a bad medicine that’s all I can say… did he even listen to Authority, Get Up, Merciful God, The Good Shepherd, Let Them Say or Sweet Banana. How can any of those albums be categorised as ‘unstructured’?
KSA to date has the best stage performance of all the Nigerian artistes: Fela is the only one who could rival him.

I will like to elaborate on what the guest speaker said about it is not enough just knowing the chord or the notes. Music is one of the most unique and specialized art. To every melodic line, there is a feeling, emotion, and mood attached. I remember vividly one of my music students playing the popular guitar rhythm on Ade ori okin by K1. He was playing the right notes at the right timing but if you have a developed music ear, you can hear that he does not sound the same with the original guitar sound on the record. So I told him that it is not enough to know just the chords and notes, you must try your best to also assimilate the feelings of the original player. And to those people saying the guest speaker does not know what he is saying, I encounter the same arguments from all these transpose button guys. I kept telling people that come to me to learn music, if you learn through shortcut, your ceiling would be lower compared to players with well developed techniques.

Femi said a lot of what so many other former band members shied away from doing. Bless him for this. I am with him 100% with all he said. As for SSP, I don't know why people keep addressing him as "star". What stardom has he got to be addressed as that? If he asked to be called that himself, it only buttress the shallowness and nastiness of his character as so many people have said. The guy is Nutter. He is a faded and damaged star, if he ever was one. Femi's comments about Juju Band leaders of old and present is also on cue. KSA, CCEO and SSP's music are truly living on past glory. The quality of their music have declined terribly since their original band members moved on. Their newer band members are largely clueless and musically inept. As for Agbaletu, many of your lines of questioning to your guests recently indicates that you are looking to Japa too in the not too distant future. Hmm.

The spiritual aspect of this is that God uses anything in life to fulfill his written promises and destinies for His creatures.

Many of the band boys are fulfilling their destinies which if they' have not started with the band it might be different ball game.

It’s all down to envy of KSA! Some of these guys are surprised that KSA is still being invited to play at top top parties and is sprayed bundles of different currencies. If KSA had stopped playing and he’s managing a small farm in a village in Ondo state and suffering, none of them would be abusing, accusing and disrespecting him. Can you imagine him saying that Wizkid could have been harmed if KSA had touched his head when he prostrated to him! Seriously? What balderdash??? Also, he said KSA refused to play at an event in the US because he wanted the promoter to pay his balance of $5000 before he played. For God’s sake, do you know who you’re talking about??? So you want KSA to be treated like a hungry, disrespected musician that doesn’t know his rights? What if the concert was a flop and the organisers start to tell KSA stories! After going through hell from Baba Bolarinwa Abioro
in the 70s, so you don’t want KSA to wise up since then? Habaaa Mr Femi Sanya!
On another note, I have watched many of this Agbaletu interviews and have come to realise that Dele Adeyanju enjoys it when his guests criticise or say bad things about KSA. Did you realise that the only time Femi Sanya said something bad about Chief Commander regarding not giving credit to others, Dele quickly said Femi Sanya cannot substantiate that statement.
Also, it seems they’re using KSA’s name to boost the likes and views of Agbaletu. Can you imagine most of the guests always dropping KSA’s name in most of the interviews? Someone who has never worked with KSA must drag his name into the interview to make it attractive to viewers!
What’s making it difficult for you to interview KSA? Is he demanding 100million Naira for the interview???

With due respect I can play something different to Shina's "sweetie baby baby". It is because you have the Shina's beat in your head that you think nothing else can go. While the interview is good, 3 things stood out in the midst of the positives things you were trying to project:
    1. Inability to differentiate btw structured and unstructured music, you couldn't even give a clear example. Juju is even more organized than Fuji in my opinion. When you have time (or Dele should ask you in the next interview) do the following:
    a. Define structured and unstructured music.
    b. Give different examples of each.
    2. It seems you dislike KSA, though I agree with you that his recent live plays are nothing to right home about. And his sounds hasn't improved, infact it has degenerated, badly regressed just like Awe said. Could be old age. I still remember his Loud in Lagos performance in '96 and also the one he did for Stars Beer (NB) around that time, how he was able to change the "Iyin to didereni, la nfi kole for ninu igbo and infused it with an Igbo beat. He was always and easily the star of any concert. Yes Sunny has fell off just like Shina. Shina's life is even drier than Sunny's.
    3. You are very biased when it comes to Shina. Shina only has 3 albums (Ace, Shinamania and Experience. Dancing time pushed to join those three but it didn't meet up), every other so-called albums didn't make it. And when it comes to stage or concert performance when at their peak, Shina was not even good enough to clean Sunny's shoes. Also Shina came with fast beat in 89 that the youths could relate to, and this attracted many 419s like Ade Bendel, Fred etc and also richman children like Femi Otedola, Segun Awolowo, Tunde Folawiyo and others. Display of currency especially by the 419s and their show attitude would attract people to Shina's shows, it was more about the 419s diaplay than Shina's. After 92 or 93 (after experience sha), there was nothing for Shina again, his sound became stale. But Sunny still came up with appreciation and many other singles that were hits.
All of them should either resign or bring in young guys to give them the new tunes now, play what people want to hear and adjust their sounds. Else they should pack up. Ati KSA oo, ati Shina oo, their live play are unplesantly boring now, same sound, nothing new, just like how Dele Taiwo (stray bullet) is awfully stale. Still listen to Obey though (even KSA was my favourite). Obey still build his music gradually increasing the tempo in a smooth Miliki way. While KSA turned himself to Baba Sala on stage, well Baba Sala was his boss anyway. While Shina would just be screaming into the mic repeating same thing over and over again.

I am not really sure KSA intentionally limited people for selfish reasons. As a band leader, he probably wants his music to express what he feels. He wants it to sound like Sunny Ade's music, melodious, less complicated yet soothing - 80s. I may be wrong, but that is what I think.
While, I can listen to this egbon over and over. I think we need to always remember that these guys were young, even as band leaders and also lacked proper mentorship. Some of them were even pioneers. Unfortunately, they can neither turn back the hands of time nor make a complete amend of all their wrongdoings. They are probably wiser now with age, some of them might need some restitution.

This guy is very good instrumentalist. His analysis are super but he lacked perspectives. Despite their knowledge of instruments like guitar, where are the two bobs. Bob Aladeniyi or Bob Ohiri in music circle today. Juju is not about instruments majorly. It is about good composition and praise singing. Dangote, Otedola, Adenuga, Adeleke invited you to play at their occasions with Onas and big wigs in the society. What is their business with the instrumentalist. They want the band leader to SING and entertain their guest with good compositions and praise their guest and have nice time. Instruments may be key in Afro beat of Fela and the current pop stars. They don't sing for social owanbe big men. They sing for the youths and students. They don't praise any body. Without the Bobs, Sunny is still number 1 and plays for who matters in the society. Till tomorrow Sunny is the main man. He is deceiving the young juju musicians. If they want to be relevant they must improve their composition on current affairs and praise singing at the social parties. Nobody listens to instruments in big time social parties. How can any sensible person calk Sunny as Awadakerikeri. This is uncharitable and irresponsible. Where is even Shina Peters today. Is he still relevant. How many instruments are they playing in Fuji. The Fuji music is taking over from Juju. Without Sunny and Obey, juju is going. Where are the young juju musicians.. This guy will mislead then and nobody will hear them. Praise singing and beautiful compositions are key to Juju and Fuji. Pop is instruments. If juju musicians concentrate on instruments, they are gone musically. The big boys , the money bags want to hear "anthem" for them and not instruments. The moderator, what problem do you have with KSA. You propped them to denigrate KSA. Even those who do not play with him. It's bad. I am out of your listener. You are biased. I am a lawyer and fanatical fan of KSA for life. At his age KSA is still waxing stronger musically while those you are praising are retrogressing including SSP. Obey are Sunny have crossed the line nobody can pull them down. It's too late for that. Bring people who can encourage young musicians and not to be rebellion. They won't make progress. We have other moderators. They don't conduct Interview to denigrate musicians. Where is SSP now. With the instruments, where is the composition to fit in into owmabe party? I wish you best of luck. Please give kudos to Sunny and Obey and appreciate their contributions instead of denigrating them. From the 60s to 2024, KSA is waxing stronger. Check You Tube and see that KSA plays for Adenugas, Dangote, Otedolas, Obasanjos, Mimikos and even governments. Shina came briefly and ended it. A flash in the pan. Change your approach and protect the heritage of KSA. For life. KSA is the man. I ask again. Where is Bob Aladeniyi with his skills on instruments? Where is Bob Ohiri with his skills on instruments. Where is SSP with his skills on instruments. This man did not give KSA for Ekilo Fomode. Synchro System and other hits. He got nominated for Grammy. What is this man talking about. I will neither doubt nor question the guest's opinions or experiences about the foremost Juju and Fuji music band leaders. However, the question should be asked: "If SSP was so good musically, why hasn't he lasted over the decades?" He was playing the guitar since the 60's and singing since the early 80's, yet his best period was between Ace and Experience (four years, '89-'92). KSA and CCEO have a more lasting legacy that SSP never matched. Even the Admiral was in a class of his own and was well respected, too. Also, when it comes to fetishism/confraternity, there is hardly any Nigerian musician who hasn't had a taste of either. Further, music evolves with the passage of time, and a good musician must evolve. I don't see how the changes over the years in KSA's music dented his legacy. For me, it got even better.
