    I am a teacher and deeply appreciate the excellent job done with this tutorial. Your instructions were clear, concise, delivered in a measured and moderate manner, with perfect volume and tone. In addition, the visual of your demonstration was easy to see (with adequate close up of the stitch, excellent choice of yarn color to shown stitch definition, and placement of the hands & needles in such a way that all steps of the stitch, both front and back, were easily seen), shown in a sequentially precise manner with just the perfect speed of the hand & needle movement, demonstrative of all of the step details of the stitch, and repeated twice for clarity. This was one of the best tutorials I have ever watched for knitting stitches. THANKS so much!!

    I was born and raised in Easter Europe and in the method of knitting from that part of the world the “ssk” is not necessary . We roll a length of yarn on the left hand index and the yarn is pulled from back and below the needle through the knitted stitch therefore the knitted stitches come facing the direction which you obtain through the ssk. I tried the method of knitting here in the US where you roll the yarn around the knitting needle , but is goes much slower than what I learned as a child. That’s why I couldn’t understand the ssk and I am so happy for your explanation. Thank you!

    My question is: I do the slip slip, then I simply
    insert my left needle into the front of both stitches on the right needle. Isn’t this the same thing without having to transfer them back to the left then reinsert the right needle again? If not, I’ll change how I do it; but, it seems to be an extra transfer and removal of a needle which doesn’t necessarily need to be there. But I loved this tutorial because every so often I forget how to do such a basic, simple stitch. THANK YOU!

    Jen Lester, if you know continental way you just do simply k2tog because you already take the stitches from the back of your needle. I knit continental style and was very confusing thinking that SSK is something new that I have no idea how to do. it is really not. ;) makes reading the pattern more difficult. For me at least.

    It's simply a k2tog but if you have a close look all it's really doing is changing the direction of the stitches and making it easier for you to k2tog tbl. It's much of a muchness as they say. Do it it however you want to...no judgement here

    My pattern directions say to slip two stitches knit wise from left to right, into the front of the two slipped stitches and knit them together,wrapping the yarn around the right needle as normal.

Once done it randomly like you did it and it looked horrible. Do it at the very beginning of the row then it looks so much better!

    Why do you put them back on the left needle?

    • @Simpawknits
      @Simpawknits 8 років тому +7

      +Kendall Foster I usually don't. Since they're already on my right needle, I slip my left needle in front and just knit them together through the back loops (using the right needle that's already in place). Either way is fine but I think while teaching the technique it's best to have the student put the stitches back on the left needle since they're used to stitches being on that side for working. When teaching in person, we can gauge the student's comfort level with either choice.

    Hello! Wendy there is nothing with the ssk presented in this video, and I believe beginning knitter should master the basics, and need step by step instruction... On the other hand (lol) its really a matter of preference, and as knitter gain experience we look for shortcuts...Thank you for sharing!! ;-))

    Enemerio is partly right. If you look at the two other videos from the CraftsChannel and the Knit Witch. It is not necessary to transfer the slipped stiches back to the left needle; Instead, insert the left needle IN FRONT OF the slipped stiches, and then knit through the back loops.
    I'm not an expert by any means. Look at those other two videos and tell me if this is correct.
