from what i understand, the main reason people wear ninja squid is cause most maps heavily favor long range weapons, making approaches very hard, so to increase the likely hood they can even get across the battlefield they wear ninja squid to make getting spotted by long ranged weapons alot harder.
I kill ‘em with explosher. That thing is a ninja squid killer. You only the ground they’re on and do damage. I usually use eliter but man aim is tough. Explosher does wacky damage and inks an insane amount of ground.
That’s true but that’s not the only way to take on long range weapons. So it’s not easy for long range weapons to take the middle, they can support their team’s push, you can avoid their shots by putting yourself up against the wall they’re hiding on top of, you can throw a lethal sub weapon like a splat bomb, suction bomb, or autobomb, and push if it lands where they’re shootings at you from. Tenta missiles, booyah bombs, tri strike, and tri zookas can all do well against long range. Also slippery movement is good, don’t swim in a straight line while fighting chargers. Dodge rolls, squidrolls, and diagonal movement towards them is the way to go.
Definitely true. I hear that at super competitive levels, players can notice the moving trail as easily as the swimming splashes, and yeah it has happened with me that I see the trail approach me with no splashes. It's harder to notice, but it is there to be noticed...
@@slyllamademon2652 While you are not wrong there, a good chunk of maps don't have that good of cover to hide behind. Backline weapons are pretty good currently, so having ninja squid as a soft counter does help out at the moment
My biggest issue with the Ninja Squid meta, is that it makes me feel like any weapon that cannot paint decently well struggles. If I play a blaster, enemy has map control with paint and my team refuses to paint, it feels so hard to get back control. Painting is something I think a lot of people forget to do in ranked.
I actually main blaster - I think blaster can really utilize hitting around corners to test areas for enemies. Just listening for damage sounds tells you where ninja squids are. Though you do have to play careful and use the map terrain wisely.
My friends and I agree that the flatter color style of 3 also seems to make it insanely harder to see the small indents from ninja squid that you could see in the glossier Splatoon 2 ink
@@StarmenRock Yeah I have the OLED so I just play handheld exclusively and I can see a good amount better. It’s still no doubt worse than 2 by a landslide

*laughs in Nautilus 47* so glad I started playing and fell in love with the kit. Since I typically play supports, the kit and the pure offensive power of the weapon gives me the perfect niche for me. I can’t be a pharmacist, but I can be a harmacist. Point sensors for days.
I like ninja squid on my dualie squelchers because due to the lower fire rate it allows me to get the first shot on faster weapons like splattershots and gals easier without making it a trade because they opened counterfire just a fraction earlier
What song is this? It plays whenever I lose a anarchy series so the first time I heard it I was like "oh wow, thanks for setting up the mood nintendo" lol.
Thermal ink is also a nice counter to ns, I run it on my hydra build and it's good at covering ink they can hide in and for tagging enemy's from a distance to keep an eye on them.
Man I cannot wait for the secondary weapon kits we need more diversity, I mean just look at Reef Slider it's only on three weapons and two of them are bad.
as a ninja squid player since 1, it's bizarre seeing so many people use it in 3. almost no one used it in 1, and i didn't play enough of 2 to really notice either way. i'll definitely use this advice to become a better ninja squid main :^)
No actually! bc heavy weapons start out slower, -10% speed actually affects them less. NS is almost free on heavy weapons, but it's also less useful because they fight at long range.
If you are playing properly and are inking everything you can, the hidden lil squids can only come at your from the front making their attack very risky. No matter anyone's special technique, Volume of Fire defeats everything in this game and every other shooter game.
I wish more ability diversity was viable in s3. lde, ninja, and stealth jump are just blatantly the optimal build besides niche edge cases and anchor weapons. it could be solved by giving maps more cover and flank routes, giving people more opportunities to approach and jump without being deleted by an eliter.
To be honest I never had an issue with ninja squid, I automatically ink turf with a weapon with decent range anyway. But I can indeed see how it can get out of hand.
Should you even run ninja squid? You said that the ability is just a movement debuff once players begin to know how to counter it and I reckon through playing without ninja squid I can improve my approach as a front line. However, whenever I run ninja squid in matches I seem to be able to get more kills and overall win more. I'm conflicted as to whether I should run ninja squid or not.
Point sensor being good because of ninja squid was unexpected, already sad for whenever ninja squid is nerfed and point sensor is bad again. I’m hoping it’s on new kit for a weapon I enjoy regardless, I enjoyed the heavy splatling remix in splatoon 2. Also just a tip but the music was just a bit loud compared to your voice in this video, during the noisier parts of the song.
I really like this new dynamic- as someone who has always used ninja squid since splat 1. I actually find it harder to be sneaky in 3, because people are so much more on edge about my gear than in the first two games where they wouldn’t see me coming. It really forced me to come up with even more strategies to counter the players trying to counter me.
I like to use the reef lux and ninja squid together. I use its sub to go near there spawn and distract the enemies if they’re winning. Mostly only in turf war…
The background music is too loud, for next time, try to lower the BG Music so its almost inaudible but atleast there is something in the background, otherwise it blends with your voice or distracts from your Content and what you want to show.
anyone else just played charger SO much and they're SO used to tracking ppls movement at this point they can see the ink trail and follow it anyways 😭😭😭😭 or just hit ppl out of their ink out of muscle memory,,, these tips are rlly good tho, I get it now that there's been a 10% reduction in the speed decrease from using it,, as well as these new maps rlly favouring longer ranged weapons

I’ve never been a huge user of ninja squid. I prefer all the speed I can get and then I just swim slowly so no wake is formed to sneak up on people

There were a fair amount of people using ninja squid in 2. Though that's mostly in soloq, I don't think it's used often in tournaments from memory.

tbh ninja forcing opponents to run a point sensor instead of a bomb is already pretty strong
