Respect to you for placing "Are you sitting comfortably" so high. I do not understand the hate for this album, it's fantastic!

Some good thoughts here from one of the rare breed that is the IQ fan.
Have to disagree with regard to The Great Spirit Way - I think it's a masterpiece - but obviously you're entitled to your opinion.
I also love Shallow Bay and Fallout.
Dark Matter was the album that got me into IQ too - glad to see the middle of Sacred Sound does the same for you that it does for me.
Love the bit in Harvest of Souls where he sings "all you lose is yourself" and the whole song changes key. Beautiful.
Also, not sure I agree with your assertion that IQ have never had great keyboard players - the solos on Further Away and Sleepless Incidental are as good as anything the likes of Tony Banks could have written.

I have to disagree with the whole bit about IQ never been known for having great Keyboardists. Martin is well renowned enough to be close to some of the biggest prog names in history and has collaborated with the late and legendary John Wetton, in my opinion, the world's greatest bassist of all time. But Neil Durant, is the very reason why IQ's sound is more edgier with jazz infusion into their prog sound. A song he wrote almost entirely is one you complimented lightly: Perfect Space. That is entirely his own flavor, which completely tells you his story. He is often held down by the confines of prog. If he were given wings to fly more, he would end up with more things like that and Fallout, which is his favorite Resistance song. I have seen him play whole pieces of music that Martin Orford did that he would never do live such as the harder bits in The Last Human Gateway. Martin Orford has complimented him directly. Finally, the reason why Neil Durant is a very fine keyboard player is because he is very passionate. He does it from his soul, and not to show off. Which is why perhaps he might not stand out sometimes. He does small things that matter. Take the song Hardcore for example. Listen to those small sounds and tell me that isn't sounds directly from heaven. His favorite keyboard is the Mellotron. It takes a professional to choose that over something flashy like a Kurzweil or Triton. This is coming from a fellow keyboardist. Remember...he had to learn every single song from IQ's catalog, and they don't give him a lot of warning more than half of the time.
Get to know him yourself. He is a very skilled Keyboardist. In the words of Peter Nicholls, "Gorgeous."

The Wake was released in 85 not 86 and Tales was in 83 not 85. I love them since the early years and, even if my faves are sung by Pete Nicholls, I always loved Nomzamo and Sitting even if some more AOR tunes are there, they still managed to give refreshing and complex tunes like Human Nature, Nostalgia/Falling Appart at the Seams, Nomzamo, War Heroes or Common Ground. Through My Fingers is a delightful tune even if it's not really prog rock.

I've listened to the album about 20-30 times from end to finish and it's a great album, but it just doesn't overtake any of my top 3.

@@ZoltanvamosOfficial As Rob said, you haven't listened to it enough. None of us have yet. Give it a couple of years, then we can judge it.

@@barrydavis8434 I would say I have, i haven't stopped listening to the album since it came out. And i don't understand why people are so upset that it's not higher, it's up pretty high and frankly i would've put it lower if I hadn't listened to it as much as I did. I could've and kinda wanted to put Ever higher but I listened to Resistance enough to hear that it had material that was better than on Ever. But that being said it also had material that was very weak.

@@ZoltanvamosOfficial I'm not upset that it is higher - or lower. it's your opinion, which is yours and perfectly valid. My point being, i suppose, that great prog, and especially IQ, is hard to judge in the short term. Its quality comes not just with the number of plays, but the time over which it is played. Out of interest, just put a note in your diary for 2 years from today, then come back with your thoughts on Resistance. I don't care if it goes up or down, but just what you think of it in 2 years time!

@@barrydavis8434 I'll give you that, but I think it's completely subjective to the listener. When someone listens to an album, and a different person listens to the same album, they will gradually have changing opinions depending on the brain. So for me, it took a while for Resistence to grow but it was worth it because it's a great album. However despite its flaws, it still have premium IQ material that I was able to thoroughly judge.
