Great list, but there are at least 50 more that many of us could name. Tony Williams lifetime, Return to Forever, Holdsworth stuff, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny group stuff, Wayne Shorter stuff and more.
Tony Williams (Believe It)..Pat Martino (Joyous Lake)..Mingo Lewis (Flight Never Ending). Alphonso Johnson (Spellbound)..David Sancious (Forest Of Feelings)..Narada Michael Walden (Garden of Lovelight)..Passport (Cross Collateral)
Nice list I would add these for you to check out Terumasa Hino: Hi-Nology Miles Davis: Agharta Alphonse Mouzon: Mind Transplant Nucleus: Belladonna If: 2, 3 or 4 are all awesome Tony Williams: Believe It Eddie Henderson: Inside Out & Realization (my holy grail’s) Out Of Focus: S/T Demon Fuzz: Afreaka UK: Debut & Danger Money Bill Bruford: Anything Return To Forever: Where Gave I Know You Before Alan Holdsworth: IOU Live Santana: Lotus (live)
Jukka Tolonen was guitarist mainly in the jazz-rock fusion band called Tasavallan Presidentti but played also in Wigwam both supergroup in prog. scene. Tolonen has also several soloalbums and Tolonen! was the first among them.
Here's mine: L.A. Express featuring Tom Scott, Man-Child by Herbie Hancock, Turn This Mutha' Out by Idris Muhammad, Tropea by John Tropea, That is Why You're Overweight by Eddie Harris, Sun Goddess by Ramsey Lewis, Black Market by Weather Report, Giants by Giants, Soft Space by Jeff Lorber Fusion, Nexus by Gene Harris, We Got A Good Thing Going by Hank Crawford, Three by Bob James, A Secret Place by Grover Washington Jr., Love Approach by Tom Browne. Black Byrd by Donald Byrd.
You forgot Passport! Most people like Cross Colateral, but my favorite is Iguacu. Also, 5 other great bands include: Shadowfax (Watercourse Way), Gong (Shamal), Flora Puirim (Open Your Eyes, You Can Fly), Brand X ( Unorthodox Behaviour), and Pekka Pohjola (Mathematician's Air Display). Finally, Jukka Tolonen's Cross-section is a masterpiece.
Wonderful selection! Aera - Hand und Fuss (Germany) Secret Oyster - Straight to the Krakenhaus ( Denmark) Fermata - Huascaran (Tchecslovakia) Iceberg - Coses Nostres (Spain) Energit 1976 (Tchec) Area - Arbeit Macht Frei (Italia) Are in my top 10
Excellent set. Couple of new names for me which is great. In exchange try Ian Carr and his Nucleus early works. He's battling with Miles Davis who actually invented Fusion )). Of course Alphonse Mouzon early pieces especially Mind Transplant. Jaco Pastorius first solo album. Jan Hammer "Like Children" and Passport Klaus Doldinger up to 80s )) thank you again for the selection.
Great List Mishrazz. I have some of the same groups on mine but different recordings. Weather Report-8:30. (fantastic live music) Santana-Moonflower (live), George Duke-Feel (simply Outstanding). Mahavishnu Orchestra-Between Nothingness and Eternity (live), JohnLuc Ponty-Open Mind, Klaus Doldingers -Jubilee (great Live sound), Return to Forever-Romantic Warrior, Billy Cobham-Spectrum and the Zawinul Syndicate-World Tour (Live) LONG LIVE JAZZ FUSION!
Thanks for introducing a couple of new ones to me, particularly from Europe. But was surprised nothing directly from Brazil was in the mix. Suggest Azymuth as one point of entry. But I was pleasantly surprised by a few of your choices: 1- The first RTF album, with Airto and Flora, the title cut alone is worth the price of admission 2 - In a Silent Way! Though Bitches Brew is cited more often, I also prefer In a Silent Way. 3 - Children of Forever. Andy Bey's cover of "Butterfly Dreams" is still on my regular play list. Much thanks and cheers from Japan.
Is Pat Metheny / Lyle Mays too famous or commercially successful to be respected as a 'real' jazz musician? I would include one or two of their album (i.e., Offramp, First Circle, As Falls Wichita So Falls Wichita Falls, Rejoicing...etc).
Passport, led by Klaus Doldinger was a European fusion group that I really liked that has fallen through the cracks of time. I would substitute either of Stanley Clarke's self titled "brown" album or his School Days album for Children of Forever. Also, I'd pick Jean Luc Ponty's Enigmatic Ocean album over the one listed here. And Santana's Welcome album instead of Love, Devotion and Surrender. Weather Report's Black Market would make my list too.
It goes without say that these are 25 of the finest fusion albums ever made, if not just finest albums. To anyone reading this comment, please do yourself a favor: Find a hard copy (any format) of Rivers Of Memory by Jessica Williams (RIP). She plays acoustic and electric pianos, organ, synth and celeste. For some reason, UA-cam uploads from that album have a much slower playback speed
Well, he did mention "Sweetnighter" and Chick's "RTF", so I gather he's only giving one citation to one individual/band, and they're his personal faves. In such a list, I would've included the two volume "Montreux Summit" recordings which are like a "who's who" of jazz fusion all live at one gig in 1977.
Eleven of your 25 have been my mainstays for years. Of the other 14, I own recordings by most of the artists you mentioned: Herbie Mann, Terje Rypdal, Return to Forever, & Larry Coryell (who fronted a 2nd-tier fusion band called the 11th House), I might suggest an 80's band called Material, with Bill Laswell - "Memory Serves" in particular. Very dark, avant-garde stuff. I also like a guitarist named Joe Beck (not Jeff - Joe). His early work could be a tad self-indulgent, but he matured beautifully, and his final work was tasty & very mellow - more jazz, less fusion, more age-appropriate for an oldster like me. Been listening to a lot of Snarky Puppy lately - technically fusion, I guess, but with the emphasis on jazz.
Okay. I don't get it. I appreciate the inclusion of In a Silent Way. And agree with many of your selections. But where is Bitches Brew!? Glaring and dreadful omission! (For that matter, you could include Jack Johnson on here as well.)
Great list! I would also include the Dixie Dregs- Dregs of the Earth. That has my favorite Dregs' song. Pride o' the Farm, a Jazz, Rock, Bluegrass combination!
def some good stuff.. tony williams lifetime would be another great.. earlier Jan hammers solo stuff is also great.. casino by aldimiola is a fav of mine aswell. lenny whites solo stuff is also very strong like his record big city
hi Mishrazz, what i see , otherwise a very nice list is that the band Casiopea with LPs Mint Jam and Thunder Live (otherwise several good LPs are never in your list with regard to Jazz Fusion albums. Do you not know Casiopea or am I the only one who follows you who likes this band ? greetings Gerard
The album you selected by Jukka ! Just heard some of that and wow what an amazing guitar player and band . The drummer is really tight and the whole band . He is from Finland ?
Thank you for the sharing man! I own a couple LPs that you showed us and they are excellent choices if you really like experimental jazz fusion! One idea for your videos, maybe you could put down a list in the description bellow for better search of the names of every LP!
Haha but everyone is only as knowledgeable as what he has been exposed to! I myself I’m working on a video about Jaco Pastorius! I’m not an expert, but I’ve done quite a bit of due diligence, and I have almost all of his recordings, including his very first one that he did in 1974 while he was still a teacher at the University of Miami! But it is fun to hear other peoples experiences into jazz, especially progressive jazz!
Why don't you make videoes in a language you normally don't speak, and then we can talk. The words don't flow freely, wich makes it harder to express mye Thoughts and opinions.
I'm sorry, but you don't really know Jazz Fusion. Where are the artist like The Brecker Brothers (Any of them), Return To Forever ( Romantic Warrior for ex.), Jan Hammer (Oh Yeah), Tony Williams Lifetime, Miles Davis (Tutu), Brand X, Roy Hargrove's Rh Factor for example. I'm not saying that some of your choices aren't bad, but there are Artists & albums missing, that if you're making a list like this they should be added.
It would be nice if you had tied the artist together with the albums you presentedn i.e. Jean Luc Ponty & George Duke played with Frank Zappa and so on. It would give the novice collectors a wider scope of of the genre. Great list.
Great list! Includes 2 of my favorite fusion masterpieces, Elegant Gypsy and Birds of Fire.
My favorite Jazz Fusion LP. Rough Draft by Apprentice. Hard to find, tough to beat!
Wonderful vinyl collection, something to be proud of. Thank you.
Great list, but there are at least 50 more that many of us could name. Tony Williams lifetime, Return to Forever, Holdsworth stuff, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny group stuff, Wayne Shorter stuff and more.

Elegant Gypsy is easily one of the best recorded albums Ever!!

Passport had a stream of excellent albums, Infinity Machine was my favorite album from them.
Appreciate your list.
Never heard Belonging described as fusion.
Been a favorite for many years.
the Deodato "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is fantastic.
Also listen to Caldera. A Latin jazz fusion. Great.
Wonderful selection!

M.O.- "they know what they're doing."
Truth.

Interesting that for a jazz fusion video you are playing Gentle Giant as the background music. Love them.
Very strong selection. Congrats, you know your stuff.
Is Pat Metheny / Lyle Mays too famous or commercially successful to be respected as a 'real' jazz musician?
I would include one or two of their album (i.e., Offramp, First Circle, As Falls Wichita So Falls Wichita Falls, Rejoicing...etc).
100% agree, maybe put Bright Size Life in there just so Jaco can join the conversation, his solo album could probably go on this list
Feel by George Duke is an excellent choice, followed closely by The Aura Will Prevail.
Hello from Brasil !!thanks pelo video .
thanks for the list

Nice to see early Weather Report. As great as Jaco was the pre-Jaco band might’ve been better.
I'll say was and still is
Billy Cobhm TOTAL ECLIPSE IS ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL .
Jukka Tolonen...OH YEAH!
1. Mahavishnu Orchestra 2. Weather Report 3. Return To Forever
Mwandishi Headhunters > Weather Report >
Great selection of albums, Barefoot boy is ? Never heard it but always enjoy Larry .
A lot of good picks there, of course everyones list is different. I would have included michal urbaniak and david sancious for sure.
I discover and look for good music!
you should have made us listen to a sample from each disc,
you have to pause and go to UA-cam one by one!
Nice ones

Jukka Tolonen plays In band tasavallan presidentti
I think was jazz critic Leonard Feather who said that jazz fusion was a dead end street with a few nice houses.
Good list ut where's Weather Report Heavy Weather or Return to Forever! Dave Grusin and Bob James??? Just saying! I subscribed to hear more!

Seconded - Material are amazing. Also love Joe Beck, he's all over those 70s CTI records; Joe Farrell, Esther Phillips etc

I love many on this list, but near the top of my personal list would be UZEB and Alain Caron's solo work.
The album you selected by Jukka ! Just heard some of that and wow what an amazing guitar player and band . The drummer is really tight and the whole band . He is from Finland ?
Nice video but You forgot STEPS AHEAD " magnetic album" my friend !
Yes! I loved Steps Ahead! Magnetic is a great album. Thank you!

Listening to your comments, you not equiped to handle sucha genre

Ew, gross, such an ugly display of personality 🤮
Wow, didnt know that music had to be 'Handled'
Quite an unfriendly comment!

Oh, but I do know jazz fusion. Of course there are artists and albums missing. These are MY favorites. It's not an objective list.
You mentioned Stanley Clarke, however, you neglected Return to Forever. Just sayin'...
He featured their eponymous debut album, with Airto & Flora Purim.
😂😢
Trying to get views? Sad either New to Fusion and or too Young to know
