@@nibblypig6291 I can see where the original post is coming from. I'd say they could mean tolerance. There is an increasing lack of it towards those whom think, act or hold views different to them. For instance, when I started cycling 53 years ago, it was unheard of for someone to abuse me for simply being on the the road, now I would say it's a weekly occurence, no matter how helpful or considerate a cyclist I try to be (I also a car driver of 44 years).

The irony being that that area of Surrey has remained a bastion of privilege and wealth and to this day indulges in the type of NIMBYism the authour / playright is yet to meet / acknowledge.

In England during the 50's there was a brand of film called "Ealing Comodies" always a wonderful cast of characters stop the closure of a steam railway line etc etc. This is an audio version of those "let's make the village a hip spot" movies. In a lull after the exhaustion of the War nothing happened and in the late 50s and early sixties the Country woke up. I thought this play was a delight - old Vicars and shopkeepers looking for the bacon - where I lived was exactly like that. This is also pre-sexual revolution so there's not even a stolen kiss in the bakery. Thank you, this was a delight and gave me a warm feeling- it's an audio cartoon of course but this life style actually existed .

What you imply is that everytime you listen to anything you have to pay every time, which in a country in the midst of recession with foodbanks and more austerity, is probably impractical at the present time.

There’s an episode in the wonderful series Foyle’s War which reminds me of this. Developers want to destroy a village green that goes back to the Magna Carta. Foyle mentions that it isn’t just any old green but an archeological site... w plenty of findings... which info saves the Green & the people of Hastings from turning into an ugly “modern” town. Both that & this story show that going forward isn’t always progress. Wonderful, even suspenseful, &, at the end, poetic listening. Many thanks! 👏👏👏

The BBC has changed so much that old fashioned fiction has given way to wholeness so that all we hear is personal angst dressed up as a story. Everybody is dead miserable, with mental health problems and all are portrayed as victims, with men being the oppressors. That's not for me. I can get that at home every day of the week👍
