The song is actually about having her drink spiked by a guy she thought she could trust and when confronted he started to cry. Her whole journey is one of bad things happening. Sexually assaulted by a producer, her record company refusing to release any of her music and forcing her to write for others, She then went Independent and released her debut album which won her 6 BRIT Awards in one year which no-one had ever done before.
No it's not. The original track is about Raye's relationship with a man who put her through hell and then cried about it (via Spotify Storyline). The spiking incident came later and Raye said it gave the song a whole new meaning which she found therapeutic at the time.
@@nubbypk "This theatrical metaphor isn't just for effect. Raye wrote the song after a chilling experience when her drink was spiked by a man she knew and trusted. "When it happened, he was right there, crying in my face like he was the one hurt," she told Apple Music. "I was like, 'Wow, I have a song for this.' It was liberating."
Thanks to your reaction, just found my new favorite singer/performer. Just watched RAYE - Live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2024 - awesome. I'd love to see her live - what a talent.
YES FINALLY!!! I’ve been waiting for you to come in contact with Raye. She is a bloody revelation and there’s SO much incredible content from her. Her videos are amazing. But her live performances are where it’s at. And that’s your whole jam. I’m looking forward to your journey with Raye
She’s up for several categories in the European VMAs with a few days left to vote (along with The Warning for the Push performance) The acoustics at the Albert Hall are just about perfect, wherever you are in the audience you hear every little detail of the performance.
Yea Raye is amazing . She won songwriter of the year and Album of the year at the Brit Awards 20204.. Think that was about 19-20 sec.. She got a run just as long if not longer when she did *Its a mans world* at the AMA's. Where she also have an orchestra..Def worth checking out too. ;)
'bout time, Bud 😉 Raye is amazing! Very much worth listening and reacting to. She's my best find THIS year, no doubt about it. Dominik put me on to her and I guess you'll see him in the comments here pretty soon 🙂 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
You guessed right buddy, how did you know? Time was overdue, but here in Bavaria we have a saying "Je später der Abend, umso schöner die Gäste!" - This was a beautiful reaction and I want more of that! Peace out, enjoy your day!
Omg I'm so excited!! My personal favorite is her cover of Feeling Good (Like A Version). I'm SO happy you're getting into her! Thank you for this reaction, it made my day :)
How great to see you finally got on the RAYE train. She's the best discovery I made in 2024, incredible gem of a human and 100% artist. And man can she sing, and that on top of her being an incredible writer, awesome musician and producer and very charismatic yet humble performer. I don't want this to get too long, so check out her Wikipedia for more details of her background... Some essentials: Brit Awards Medley Genesis MV It's A Man's World live at Montreux, North Sea Jazz or AMA (short version, but with another incredible long belt with amazing runs) Worth It live at he London Hilton Buzz It Down live at Royal Albert Hall Ice Cream Man MV Escapism MV SNL performances full album Review (My 21st Century Blues) everything live... You're in for a journey, I'll gladly share the ride! Peace and love from Bavaria!
The Royal Albert Hall is known as the HOLY GRAIL for musicians. It has the best acoustics ever. Hayley from Paramore said it was pinch me moment as she performed on that stage. Everyone from The Beatles to Adele have played here. PINK FLOYD playing here is ear orgasm music. I've seen Sinatra, Sammy David Junior, Liza Minnelli on the same bill. EPIC doesn't even describe the sound. It's a beautiful venue. It holds the proms every year. RAYE is phenomenal we love her she is a lot like Adele in ways that she is a London girl and with that comes some big attitude. As a Londoner my self. They don't make English girls better than here.
I love her so much. It’s so hard to convince Ren reactors to check her out. And some how ppl started to see her lately. She’s British independent artist. Check her SNL performance or Brits Awards performance next
Similar story here, Jesse. Our friend Ashlena kept talking about somebody named Raye, I thought she meant Lana Del Rey! 🤷♂️ Finally figured it out, my first exposure was this same performance, what an incredible voice and performer!🔥🙌🔥
Now she's grammy nominated!!!!!
As she should be!!

@@jedislap8726 yes you are exactly right. When she said "I have a song for that" its because she had already previously written it.
The one about having her drink spiked is “Black Mascara”, the sexual assault one is “Ice Cream Man”
Her Brits 2024 medley ima THE performance to react to
