      Joakim Tollerud I use the 2-5 the most with photo and video I returned the 6-9 just make sure to buy it straight from PolarPro , b&h send me used and scratches on them twice, I feel like since they don’t have them in stock regularly people use and scratch them they do scratch easily and they return it and it gets sent to the next person who put an order.

    Erwin, I just wanted to say, “Thank You,” for the video, as well as the level of detail that you put into your video pre-, during-, & post-“test.” At least for someone who really used to love photography as a kid w/ a nice point & click for Christmas in the late 80s/early 90s (was btwn ‘89&’91) & a moderate-level ($-wise) self-adjusting Canon variable lens camera as a graduation gift for my Masters in ‘03 to use throughout my time in the PhD prgm at Arizona, I’m the epitome of what I always tell my students now (as a prof at Auburn), PhD doesn’t mean being the smartest in everything, or even, say, a lot of things; expertise is very specialized & the more you learn, the more you realize how little you, truly, know both w/in, & esp outside your field(s). So as one who’s fairly ignorant in photography (which I always have to explain is not the same as being dumb), I really appreciate(d) your approach in educating me, & lessening my, & others’, ignorance on the topic of (VND) lenses.And your method, at least for me, was perfect given I definitely didn’t want to fall prey to any promotions/branding effects given I’m a marketing & entrepreneurship professor, as well as a long-time #PeterMcKinnon fan/follower due to his earlier magic & Card development. Thank you, again, & you’ve got a new subscriber who’s looking forward to future videos/education. 👍👍

    I really enjoyed watching this video, learning about how the videography side of the house uses ND filters as much as the photography side of the house! I appreciated your honesty, also the end cap. If you have money that needs to be diverted elsewhere instead of on a good piece of kit such as the polar Pro ND filter spend it there!
    I'm a landscape photographer, but I also believe in putting the right gear together. I don't believe in putting cheap glass at the end of a expensive lens attached to an expensive camera body! A lot of ways within both of our realms, you get what you pay for. 👍

    Thank-you! This is exactly what I needed to know; I was “on the fence” about it, so now I just ordered it. If you happen to still see comments... I have been wondering if/when/how you would use both an ND filter *and* a diffusion filter like Black Mist... I already know I almost always need ND because I shoot outside in daylight. But I really like what the diffusion filters do...

    • @erwinmarionneaux
      @erwinmarionneaux  4 роки тому +1

      Glad this helped! Place the diffusion filter on first, and then the Nd filter on last when you use both because like you said, you’ll just about always need an ND filter shooting outside.

    So you said a Variable ND can give a weird polirised effect to one side of an image as they are just 2 polarisers. You said the Peter Mk one fixes all those the other things but didn't specify if it fixes that problem. Would this be suitable for high quality Portrait photography? Or is it worth buying a specific ND?

    • @erwinmarionneaux
      @erwinmarionneaux  4 роки тому

      I have no need for circular polarization unless I’m trying to shoot through glass or something like that. And as far as which one to choose, 2-5 covers majority of normal filming. 6-9 would be helpful if you’re doing long exposure photography or it’s very very bright out and you’re trying to film at f1.4 or something.

    • @Tnapvrvideo
      @Tnapvrvideo 4 роки тому

      Thank you. If you do need polarization, do you simply switch out the ND for a CP? And, regarding the 2-5 versus 6-9, for simply cutting down bright sunshine for landscape still shots, do you think one would be better than the other using a 24mm fixed?

    • @erwinmarionneaux
      @erwinmarionneaux  4 роки тому

      Yea if I need polarization I’d just switch it out. A 6-9 stop reduction of light is a lot. Maybe a hand full of times I’ve been in a situation where I wished I had maybe 6 stops but I definitely see the 6-9 filter focused at photographers who do long exposure. Any normal lighting condition wouldn’t need anywhere near that much reduction for video

    • @Tnapvrvideo
      @Tnapvrvideo 4 роки тому

      Excellent. Thank you! I will get a B+W cpl and a McKinnon VND 2-5. We are basic still photographers. We use one lens on our Sony a7riii: a Sony 24/1.4 GM. That's it. Long exposures are not something we do. We just shoot for our own enjoyment, and we print and frame an image once in a while for home decoration.
