Jeff, this is Mike from Oakdale, my Aunt has lived in Bishop since the early 70's. I have driven bye this marker for years. Keep up the history work. I really appreciate you and Sara's efforts to keep our history alive.
Thank you Jeff and Sarah for another "Sunday Morning History Lesson". You are right. I've never heard of Dogtown. I am thinking....If those rock walls could talk, oh the stories they would tell. .....Russell D.
Great job as usual Jeff and Sarah .. I have driven over Conway Summit hundreds of times and never knew that Dogtown even existed. The older I get the more respect I have for our history. 👍☺
You are absolutely right -- I never heard of Dog Town. :-) It has a rugged beauty to it with the rock outcroppings, the many shades of green vegetation and the clear blue sky. Thank you for sharing!
Good morning Jeff and Sarah, a chilly and Frosty morning here in Ceres but still, promises of a beautiful day. Thanks again to both of you for sharing another wonderful, informative video of Early California Pioneers. I never tire of history. Those early Californio's were a strong and hardy people. I give them 10 thumbs up. Looking forward to watching your next episodes. Be safe. Stan in Ceres.
Checking for new history hunter videos is now a ritual for me on Sunday mornings. This episode was short but filled in another piece of the amazing story of California.
Nice and interesting as usual guy’s! Thank you for showing us these awesome locations and look forward to the next one! Take care now! Frank from Philly,PA.
Another great video. I explored a lot of these places back in the 80's; base camp was on the creek coming down from Devil's Gate. So many of your eastern SIerra videos bring back a lot of great memories.
LOL can't believe you read my mind on the snakes thing. have never ventured out in the desert without thick books and legs covered. but have run up on many snakes too. YIKES! Love the DESERT though so much out there to see..... enjoyed the Hunt. TY!
Yeah we hear from people all the time about snakes but we just don’t run into them. Rattlers give off a signal when you get too close. The ONLY place we saw one was in Yosemite on the Half Dome trail of all places!
I've driven past that roadside marker on 395 for probably 40 years. I had no idea there was enough to see and talk about to make a 10 minute video. Thanks Jeff and Sarah!
Brilliant job as usual Jeff thanks. it was short and sweet but very interesting. I get so interested honestly that almost 10 minute video went by like it was 2 or 3 minutes lol.
The homes were so primitive. They lived a very hard life !! I always love the old mining towns. Another great video. California is a treasure trove of history. Love love it 😀
@@jbenziggy I always enjoy your adventures, it makes them mine too. Born and raised in CA, have checked a lot of history out since moving to Nor Cal 50 years ago. I live above Coloma, gold rush country. Keep up the good vids.
Man! I've passed by Dogtown so many times but I never actually stopped to explore. I had no idea there were that many remnants left. Thanks for doing the legwork for me!
Makes you realize just how hard these folks had it and the extremes they would go through to find a better life it's kinda sad ......another good video Jeff and Sarah never miss any of your videos and as usual thumbs up
Oh my goodness! We love your town! If it wasn't so cold in the winter we would live there! Very charming place! Thanks for watching our stuff! We appreciate it! Bundle up! LOL
My favorite people Jeff and Sarah with her beautiful smile! Marry that woman! California is more than the best cities. It is old west history that is hard to imagine. Gold rush history goes on forevermore with Mexican outlaws like Pancho Villa robbing trains etc. An old woman I met here touched his boots in the early 1900s.
Hey Jeff & Sarah, Dog town... I found my first two flakes of gold there in 1997 Was the first time panning for fun. Then came the fever :0 and I`ve been looking for it ever since. As always you rock :) Keep up the great work!
I am a new subscriber and have been kinda “binge” watching your videos, for the last week. I really enjoy what you do. I lived in both northern and southern CA for many years and have explored many of the places you have. I just watched your videos of Virginia City and the Bonanza tv show. The burning map at the beginning of the show, always looked wrong to me! Now I finally realized that it’s the only (map) I have ever seen that is not, north/south oriented! It’s 90 degrees out, east up. Odd. Also I went to the Cape Kennedy space center twice, during the Apollo missions, and attended the launch of Apollo 17. It was fantastic, and a very different experience, back then! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the compliments and encouragement! We're having fun and we know good folks like you are too just watching! Yes, you are correct about the Bonanza map being reangled. That fooled a lot of folks, but to be honest the Ponderosa is totally fictional so they could have drawn the map any way they wanted. LOL. Thanks for checking out our episodes and if you want to recommend it to your family and friends on social media that would be greatly appreciated! We are on the verge of 35,000 subscribers and growing! Thanks, Bill!
You are right, I never heard of Dog Town before. It's amazing to see all those foundations but no buildings. It's also interesting to hear the theories about how it was named. And maybe, there is some truth in both theories. Certainly, it can explain why the term "Dog Town" stuck here and not at other locations. I'm also amazed at all the history in this small county in California that I never otherwise paid any attention to.
I got to thank you two for taking the time to share so much interesting history of California, I am from Covina, I just could never afford to go back! But I've grown to love it here in Kansas city MO, but I will never stop loving California, it's such a great place to live! There is so much to do and love about it (except for the traffic lol) but you guys are so talented in finding all these great places ❤ thank you so much ❤ and be safe in your travels ❤ 😊 ♥
Lance, such a nice thing for you to say. We love the California weather and geography, its coastline and its mountains but there is so much going wrong with our leadership that people are leaving in large numbers. The homelessness, high cost of living, onerous regulations and social engineering are sadly making this state a miserable place to be. But we are holding out until we can find something better! We will be safe! Hey thanks for watching our channel! We enjoy doing this as long as good folks like you watch and enjoy it!
@@jbenziggy you are most welcome! I do truly appreciate your time and effort you two put into your work! And yes your totally right about the crooked folks in office out there, my sister and brother inlaw live out there and speak of how bad things are going. It's really sad that with everything that their is to do, I loved being able to go to the beach one day and the next going up to the mountains and then go to the desert to ride bikes or like a friend had a three wheeler that my feet always slipped off and I'd run my feet over, lol. Like I said though you do such a great job with every place and the story's are so informative that I don't want to miss your next! Again thank you for everything!

Jeff & Sarah, naturally I’ve never heard of Dog Town. However, seeing Stone Age dwellings from the 1850’s was a surprise. If there was plenty of gold coming out of the mine, you would think the dwelling would be better. As usual a great learning video from Down Under😎😎🐝
