Not only do we need Western omnbus, Rawhde Kid, Two-Gun Kid etc (a favorite of mine was the Western Ghost Rider), but we also need a Sgt. Fury omnbus - and include the Leatherneck Raiders - for all us Silver Age fans. In August 1961 I was 7 years old - there is silver in my hair now.
I have to say, the standard edition cover is really beautiful! So is the restoration work.
two omni overviews in one day? I must be dreaming!
This is one i and many others will skip i think
Im glad you're sheding light on Walt's Comics, cause it's hard or impossible to get some of these new books in EU without them
I second your call for a good Western omnibus from Marvel!! Those pages looked amazing.
I absolutely love it , it’s a beautiful time capsule and historical document, in this you see Marvel begin to truly form its fascinating and it will be in my collection 😄
This one's not for me, as I'm not one for "random" compilations. But I do appreciate the work Marvel has been putting into restoring their Golden Age and Silver Age omnis. Also, that's a decent sized text on the spine.
@10:57 That expanded white streak on Reed in that bottom left panel, though. 🧐
Dang! Thanks for doing this overview. I want this thing so bad. Just a little too rich in pride for my blood. Restoration looks so beautiful. Marvel does an amazing job with these books. The Timelys Greatest omnibuses are STUNNING. Some of my faves in my collection.
Beautiful book. Thanks Marvel
This book is gorgeous in person, but that $150 price tag with a much smaller page count than most omnis will keep me from getting this unfortunately. Maybe they'll get remaindered down the road and I can get lucky on one. The DM cover is awesome.
I've pre-ordered this omni, really looking forward to it, just to see what else was in the spinner rack back in the day. Hopefully this leads to a Millie the Model omni! If not, would be interesting for a similar theme for other big months in Marvel history.
I might be one of the only people actually interested in this Omnibus. The context surrounding Fantastic Four #1 is something I'm really interested in, and "What Marvel Comics looked like when it came out" is part of what I find interesting.
"Look Ma, theres one over here" Points, stares and takes picture of Felix. On the News the following evening " This just in, one of the two people that bought Marvel 1961 Omnibus" was Felix Hadler, he was unfortunately unavalable for comment. In other news the other person that bought this book is currently in hiding and is believed to planning to relocate to Mars".
This will be be ultimate test of how well humour translates over the internet 😂🧐
@@JennySparkz Well, well, well, jokes on you, I'm too poor to get it right now
Is this available at Ollie's yet? Or do I need to wait a couple of months?
I actually have a strange opinion about omnis like these.. Although it's definitely a very interesting idea and I think it's pretty cool, I'm certainly not going to purchase it.. BUT, the more omnis that Marvel puts out that I don't want to buy, the happier I actually am. Marvel is releasing so many awesome omnis lately that it's putting a strain on my wallet. So I'm GLAD whenever I see something that I DON'T want because it means that it's another $70 - $90 bucks that I DON'T need to spend. Lol
I feel the same way! Marvel has been releasing so many good books that it's a nice reprieve to have an omni come out that I'm not interested in.
Why is the font on the spine so big...dont answer that I'm just bitter my FF volume 2 and eventual 3 don't match my volume 1
That's a very particular Omnibus for a very specific subset of hardcore Marvel True Believers. I do love the "time machine" aspect of this, and FF #1 was truly a landmark moment in comics, but I can't help thinking a DC Omnibus covering the same month would be more fun to read overall... and maybe a bit more enlightening in the context of the times since those well-known superhero comics were the behemoth that Stan and Jack were taking on when they created the Fantastic Four.
Thanks for doing this overview. It's not really for me, but it's nice to see the build of the book and what the contents look like.
Straight to Ollies
This feels like one even Ollies would pass on. "We can't charge people - we would have to pay people to carry it out of the shop".
The Venn diagram of people who like Millie the Model/Gunsmoke Western/ Tales to Astonish don't have FF 1 in another version and will pay $150 for a 520 page book is a black hole.
Just wait for September 1961 Omnibus
@@SuperSilver316 LOL. When it comes out I'll look like a fool for not believing.
"I have all of these in the original floppies" Richie Rich
I would pay no more than $40 for this omnibus.
I'd take it if someone gave me $40!!!!!!!!!
$34.99 is a better price!
“You will notice one missing”… FF#1 is right there omar… third row.
Hahahah! Yeah.... nice catch! :)
You get a NO prize! Just kidding… not sure how I missed it :)
@@NearMintCondition ha ! No prize , makes u miss stand banter sooo much!
I've already ordered mine, this is the equivalent to the Amazing Fantasy omnibus I got for my Spider-Omni shelf, in that I think it'd be a good starting omni to show what was coming out,
when suddenly this phenomenon hit the shelves. So this book will start off my Fantastic Four shelf, same way the Amazing Fantasy one begins my Spidey one.
Of course, this one's a bit bigger than the Amazing Fantasy one (and pricier),
so it took some self-convincing, but we weren't getting any omni's a later week, so I got this one alongside Starman (first time reading that, can't wait to see what the hype's all about). 👍
But overall, great overview Omar, keep up the amazing work. 😌
I'm going to get this. I think it's good to see where comics were at the start of the marvel explosion.
I don’t buy modern compilations but I bought this Omnibus because I like reading Silver Age comics in different genres. I hope Marvel does the same thing for the 60th anniversary of other characters with Javier Rodriguez drawing the covers!
I think this might be a trend. I always wanted to collect all the comics that came out the month I was born.
You gave me the idea to go check the comics that came out when I was born on Mike's Amazing World of Comics Newsstand Time Machine!
Glad this book exists but I will have to hold off my budget is already tapped between x-men and Spider-Man titles. As far as reflectiveness in surfaces it tends to go flat, matte, satin, semi gloss, gloss and then high gloss. Thanks for the great videos.
I understand the art restoration and that some of these comics are getting incredibly expensive but I cannot justify the page count to price ratio. It's still an insane price in other sites like OPB or CGN. For the same price, we are getting a Fourth World reprint that contains 1500+ pages, a Deathstroke omnibus with 1300+ pages and Green Arrow the Longbow Hunter with 1400+ pages. If this omnibus had a 75 USD cover price than maybe I could justify it but being 150, sadly going to pass.
I totally agree with that. At a lower price point I’d be all over this!
Same. I’d love to get this omnibus but I can’t justify spending so much money on it, even with discount 😕
Nice omni but way too much double dipping for that high of a price. But thank you very much for the great overview, Omar!
Such a strange idea for an omni.
ff#1 is not missing from the back. It's on the second to bottom row, second column.
Love these omnibus; means I save another $150.
Patsy Walker has never had an epic or masterworks, they get the occasional appearance. Really wish they would run a few epics for those as they were quite decent (I have a number of the Atlas comics). Will probably get this volume but it is way over-priced at the moment (for my budget anyway). I would love to see this in a paperback form as well and would love to see other months created as well. I miss the variety of different comics, to now basically just super hero comics (at least there is still Ed Brubaker crime tales). I definitely think they look better than they did back in 1961. I also wish they would run an epic or two of Patsy, Linda Carter, Kathy, Millie, Westerns etc - I suspect they would not sell amazingly well
Isn’t Linda Carter “Night Nurse?” When do we get that Omnibus?
I just ordered June 1962 but Omar do you think Marvel will make more books like this?
Hey Omar, I think the paper name you're looking for, that comes between Matt and Glossy, is Satin.
Thanks Omar, While this is not for me I would definitely be down for some western comics omnibus.
Great job Uncanny Omar as usual but when you showed the back cover I was able to see FF#1's cover
Marvel comics got really good around 1964. this is a cool omnibus if you want to have it in your collection, but overall it's too specific to pick it up if you're just interested in specific storylines.
Omar usually bats a thousand when it comes to pitching new omnis for me to buy, but this one I can safely say is not for me. Cool it exists but it's not my era or anything I am particularly interested in. Excellent overview though!
An interesting time capsule book. I wonder what material they would use in a follow up edition.
If they do something big based on date, perhaps September 1962z
@@NearMintCondition You nailed it. That's exactly what's coming next.
I'd be all over a Silver age western Omni or at least another masterwork. Throw me a bone here, Marvel!
Are they nuts??!!! $150 cover price for LESS than 600 pages???!! Why???
Because they had to do a ton of art restoration. Most of this hasn’t been reprinted before.
Sure, sure.... that's not good enough of a reason.... many Omnibuses are restored for the first time, that doesn't mean they are getting ultra high prices no? Or let's take the Masterworks, each is restored right? Still the price is pretty stable.
Milking the nerd. Yummy money. 💸💸💸
@@ZsoltSchumacher i dont know man. Those masterworks are pretty damn expensive now. The new Spider-Man masterworks coming in November is $100 for 472 pages. The new Dazzler masterworks is $75 for 302 pages.
Many of the omnibuses we get aren't from 60 years ago and the ones that are have often been collected in Epic format and Masterworks before, as well as having their original prints cleaned up for the Essentials collections before that, well before they ever made it to the omnibus collections. Much of the content here has never been reprinted anywhere at any point. Tracking down the originals and cleaning everything up is a long and laborious process that is going to cost more in the end.
How much it double dips with Masters of Suspense vol 1-2 omnibus?
Thanks for your review. It saved me a purchase. I think i will pass on buying this one because it looks like something I would skim not read. Cool idea for a book however
Was that a hint .. hint for upcoming Western Omnibus?
I wish.
Are all of the Jack Kirby comics in the fantastic 4 omnibuses
Just his Fantastic Four stuff.
Omar Kathy Look like the Archie Comics, also did the Epic Collection Reissue #1 of the Fantastic Four: The Greatest Magazine of the World
Lots of books took that formula back then. Yes sir.
Coming to an Oliie's Bargain Outlet store near you.
Thanks Omar, was curious to see inside this one. I have the Rawhide Kid Masterworks, but would also love to see more Western Stuff collected (plus the Atlas 50's sci-fi stuff which includes art from the likes of Joe Maneely, who still needs his own omnibus too in fact, please tell David G!).
I'm surprised they didn't use the mini font on the spine for this one.
Didn't Linda carter become the Night Nurse?
(3:22) Kathy and Sabrina (From Archie)look alike each other
Kind of a neat looking omnibus. Going to pass on this, but still a neat item! Hopefully people enjoy it
This is so a definite pass. I feel bad for all the trees harvested to print this book.
Lmao 😂
I love the overall design of the book but I think literally the only people buying this are completionists
500 pages for $150? That’s a bit pricey IMO.
...loki is 1000 pages for only $43.00!!!
Since this is the beginning of Marvel's Silver Age, I'm shocked they didn't do the horrible micro-font spine they are giving all the other silver and bronze age Marvel omnibus collections.
😁😁😁
August 961????
Fantastic Four are lizard people.
520 pages 150$?!? W T F !!!!!
This one's a hard pass for me.
This was intresting to see what this Omibus is about but its way too overpriced for the Not so great content it has. Spiderman vol 1 is cheaper than this collected work
HARD pass.
Easy skip for me but I can understand why they did this
This could be headed for clearance and end up in a bargain bin
This Omnibus looks truely awful.
Each to their own.
First
:)
@@jeffsuter344 That’s never happened so I have to celebrate that 🎉 😆
I braved this video to give it a like for Omar, but a massive dislike for this omni. It’s disappointing that Marvel would waste paper on this crap when there are so many things people want.
