My theory on the DX is on purpose early on Dave D made the plastic so it can't be recycled so nobody could make the exact same plastic in a mold and has stuck with a similar plastic blend now even when Dave D does not need to.
excited to eventually have a full bag of trash panda molds
I’m loving the nerd science behind all of this. Keep up the good work lads
I had a feeling 165g baseline would be flippy, but those are literally Rollozones. Loving the look into the madness of "It's working! Now it's not. Now it's really not. Now it is! WTF!?"
That’s so perfect. Not only is it the Rollo of Ozones, but it can do a barrel roll in the sky
8:10 I would love to have THIS particular disc! The way that blue comes out from the injection point is super rad!
This was a blast. Your having way to much fun with this. I’m living vicariously through you guys from this moment on.
You should try to do floppy disc and see if it would make a floppy disc
Dude...Y'all rock! Don't ever stop!
It's great to see you pushing the boundaries, and learning stuff, while you take us along for the ride.
Thanks, Jessie! :)
Love learning more about the science of all of this!
Trash panda makes the best discs, keep up the good work. I hope y’all still working on that new midrange. Good video.
I really enjoy that the hopper is labeled, just in case anyone mistakes it for something else.
It kind of makes sense that Innova DX plastic is formulated in a way where the faster processing time works best. They've been doing this a LONG time and I bet they've got their system (especially for baseline) pretty dialed.
Trash Panda Team, you may have highlighted something that I've believed to be true for a long time! I'm curious what you think after your experience today.
Plastic blends are just proprietary names, not actual blend recipes. Whether it be plastic availability, player requests, or other things beyond my pay grade, the blends never seem to stay consistent across older manufacturers.
I wonder if the DX you have spans such a long time frame that each batch is inconsistent due to this?
oooh please do a "flatter" Ozone ! --- and find an euoprean retailer
Why not do dx on the inner core?
Totally put some of these into a surprise box for the holiday disc swap!
I literally signed up for the disc exchange as soon as the email came in. Much love for the opportunity this year to participate as I missed it last year.
P.s. love the mini series but you got me excited for Bondanza
Can you please do a video on how you write ✍️ the disc weights so teeny tiny small?
i love watching the learning experience creating something new/different
Disclaimer - I have no history of creating fan fiction I just went all gas no brakes.
@5:52
K - Bathroom? you want to go have a bath?
J - Let me just say bath, and you, 5 seconds
K - Ok, try [redacted by arm]
J - A Precious?
J - Discs first, then a bath is the plan?
K - Make sure not to tell googly eyes
Love seeing y'all doing some trial and fail fast runs! It makes sense that the plastic was meant to be handled and injected quicker because Innova probably mass produces those destroyers, just cranking them out as fast as possible, where as a premium plastic might be more finicky and take more time, different heats, and injection techniques? IDK y'all are the experts 😆
Absolutely loves this channel
@TrashPandaDiscGolf I'm a Millwright at a very small dairy, and trying to make 25000 half gallon cartons and all of them have the tinniest little leak in the top corner no matter what we try. I even have an expert here. At least you get to throw them afterwards. Great content as always. How loud is your machine, I noticed your operator Kyle wearing ear buds. Try a pair of Shokz bone conduction head phones. He can wear ear plugs and save his hearing without blasting his music louder then the machine, changed the game for me for over 5 years now. Once you lose your hearing you dont get it back.
This is really exciting!
Ngl, I live my dunes, but would really adore one in baseline plastic!
New to your videos, and disc manufacturing videos in general. Would love more detail on what's wrong with the discs being made. Not sure if that's cause I'm new, but might not be a bad idea to talk about that in the video!
this is interesting on so many levels. Initially, the idea that you predominantly found DX destroyers makes sense and it made me think, "I wonder what the most exchanged gift disc is for the swap?" i'm going to assume it's not a DX destroyer based on requirement to send premium plastic foremost. It would be interesting to know which mold is exchanged the most.
Love to see you living the dream bro ❤
It's funny yall mention smell. I worked at a medical manufacturing company for a while and we switched our plasticizer's for our product and there was a distinct smell difference from the prior to the new plastics.
i do hope that some of the better discs that you end up making this week get to be enjoyed by people.
Does setting the disc on the top of the flight plate potentially remove any dome as the disc cools? Is it possible to set the disc on some kind of mandrill or mold that will increase the dome as it cools?
It would be essential to have calibrated equipment to ensure it cools evenly and completely level… or else you’ll get lopsided discs
Why is it cooled on the flight plate and not the rim? Also, how would a water bath cooling effect the discs.
Kinda wanted to see y’all smash some hyzer flips. Amazing work (:
You guys should purposefully make a blue and white burst mix like that first blueish destroyer that came out it's perfect for the ozone
An orange Ozone? For me? I accept you
What kind of injection velocity and backpressure are you using? Baseline normally wants to fly through in sub-45 second intervals with minimal cooling and not alot of time in between where the material can dwell. Also, if you aren't sorting by weight as well, you are introducing different levels of polymers that act in specific ways (weight-reduction agents and high specific-gravity material) which will make each prior adjustment seem backwards as new material comes in.
The super flippy grenade shot is a thing of beauty that everyone should at least try 😂
You guys should do a rubber blend of fully recycled material. Similar to vibram discs, I've always wanted a disc like it!
That final shot was fantastic
I feel like it makes sense that innova DX likes to be injected quickly? They probably formulated it as such to mass produce a lot of discs when they were the undisputed kings of the sport
My buddy and I have found over 1000 discs in local water holes and the by a large margin the top two discs are Destroyers (although not DX) and DX Leopards.
I worked injection molding for about 5 years. Different plastics definitely have different smells. The worst are PVC, ABS, and fiberglass infused PE
How many times can you recycle discs? Do you know if there's a lifetime on the plastic at all, or does it refresh when you grind and melt? Difference between base vs. premium? Do we need to wait a few years to find out? These videos are so cool!
DX inner cores would be great for kids getting into the game. Can you get the same flight characteristics?
Question regarding stamps. I know that you don't do stamps (at least foil stamps) on your discs, and I understand that one of the reasons is that foil stamps (in theory at least) affect the recycling capability of a given piece of plastic. So, how are you dealing with this when grinding up old discs (from other manufacturers) to recycle? I don't imagine that those DX discs have foil stamps (but don't know for certain), but surely you come across lots of foil-stamped discs in your recycling, yes? How are you approaching this?
So out of curiosity, does mold matter as well? Would there be a chance that the different classes of disc (putter, mid, fairway, driver) will have different plastic densities despite being the same plastic blend basically? Asking cause I feel like there was a comment about this in the previous video but i cant remember.
How does the cooling speed affect the disc?
If you have done research on cycle times of other discs/plastics, can you back into an inference of what plastic it might have been?
Aw, I was really wanting to see any damage from the pole hit. Did they have regular DX durability?
How long from hitting the start button does it take for a disc to get made?
I'm genuinely curious, I know when you get plastic from other sources you have to gind and dry, but since you've already done that, when you are testing like this can you actually grind all those fails immediately and use it while testing or would you have to dry again? Also I am assuming grinding doesn't take long and I know I could be wrong on that.
Hi Jesse - - why do dimples not work on a discs in the same way it works on a golf ball ? i've seen Titleist's videos where they experiment w dimple patterns, balls without dimples, half covered and such, and one should think that dimples would benefits discs aswell, maybe not as much as on a golf ball, but atleast some...
An even flippier ozone sounds real nice
Is it possible to recycle floppy discs and if so will it still be floppy?
Do we have any concerns for inhaling hot plastics like that?
... are you releasing this week of test discs....?
The disc that hit the pole, was the disc damaged ?
I feel like there could be an improvement in the cooling process. Instead of putting the disc on a flat surface, why not set them on a cooling rack that only touches the rim of the discs? Letting it cool on a flat surface must affect the dome, unless you're wanting a flat result.
So... random idea I'd love you to test. A dude made a test where he cut a circle out of the middle of a disc. He kept cutting more and more out and it made the disc more and more understable.
I'm noticing that some of your "not right" prototypes have a big dimple in the middle...
Has anyone ever tried to play around with that dimple? see if adding that and possibly increasing the diameter makes a disc more and more understable? Or any change at all really haha.
Stay rad, dig what you guys are up to.
....oh and I find the DX plastic way way way more flippy than any other plastic Innova makes, so makes sense your stuff is flippier. I can throw a DX Wraith and get great flight out of it, I can't throw a star wraith. Same goes for their beast, and destroyer, I can get them to stand up and cook, but in star plastic I need to disc down.
Same weights too, no clue why!
I absolutely love these behind the scenes videos.
if you guys can send a scuba suit my way im sure i can find a bunch of overstable drivers that didnt clear my local creek 😅
Flippy Ozone that requiew faster flow to mold = Flozone!
how cathartic is it to be able to just drop a disc you don't think came out well into the grinder?
I mean... if it's that flippy an Ozone, make some ET2's out of it for a stable 9 speed!
Hey Trash Panda, next challenge is to mixed in neutron plastic!
I want one to hyzer flip all day 😂
Destrozones
I wonder if there might be a copyright issue selling discs made from another company's proprietary blend of plastic.
Throwing at altitude and it is still that flippy? It must be a -5, or could you have created a -6 turn disc?
I want a DX Ozone like no other... how can I get it!! (Havn't finished the video yet when typing this but had to comment). I actually really like how DX plastic feels.
EDIT: Just finished it, and indeed I want one! What are you planning to do with these creations over the 5 days?
EDIT #2: Just watched the third video, and bought this and the inner core. Those boxes with all 5 must have sold out fast!!
Are there any legal ramifications recycling discs from other manufacturers and selling them? Would Innova come after y'all if you sold what used to be destroyers as ozones?
@DiscGolfdotLaw
Can we buy these yet?!
Please let me buy one of those swirl ones from the beginning!!!!
The Destroyder
I would so bag some of those that bumped out
Better fly as good as a destroyer.......
Give me an MVP overmold ozone please. You can call it Stealth.
I truly love my beat up Innova made D-line FD, its beat up so much it wont go anymore understable. Throwing insanely flippy discs is own sience smooth+alot hyzer+less power and those can become a weapons.
Probably have 1mil Destroyers to recycle lol
That last shot though 👀
First
Keep on keeping on folks. You are fighting the good fight. Many thanks.✌🏼🥏
