bought this guitar without even playing an 8 string before based on this review. It's a solid good guitar. Would highly recommend it if you're getting into 8 strings!
I bought this guitar off a friend for 250 with strap locks, strap, and case. Probably the best decision I made cause I love it. Although it is a bit short scale
@guitaristman23 haha, I know man! This had come out of the box with something like a 60. for the low string, i recommend using at least 74. I think I mentioned that in the video :)
Of course, like with any guitar. Having low gain settings and pushing the upper mids helps with low tuned guitars, you want to back some of the bass off to so it doesn't get to boomy. I would recommend trying a tubescreamer with the gain backed right down or an EQ pedal taking out some of the lower mids and pushing some of the higher mids slightly infront of the amp.
i believe all LTDs are made in Indonesia like my 2 are and i think the main difference between the 2 is 208 has ESP pickups and the 338 have EMG pickups :)
the baritones!!! go with the baritones!!!! the extended neck is...just amazing, i love baritone guitars, trust me, you will to. A regular six string is good, but if you really want a open, gorgeous, ominous tone, go with the 27" or higher scale length, but keep in mind, u wont be able to tune above C easily, it gets extremely tight. But tension wise, the 27" will blow the 25 1.5" outta the water
On the other hand, I'm pretty iffy on a 25.5 scale for that bottom string. That's pretty short for a string that low. Tension could possibly be an issue. Even in the video, he mentions that he wished he had heavier strings to maybe compensate for that. Best course of action is to try to get your hands on a couple different guitars in a store and see what works for you. Personally, I'd go for an Ibanez or Schecter for the longer scale length, but that's just me.
thank you for the review! It's good to see someone who gets the music that would be played on this (ie not just nu metal/10000% distorted). Do you play with just a guitar amp or do people sometimes have a cross over with a bass amp (kind of like Chris Squire in reverse)?...The dude from Earth (I know he plays a six string) but he uses a little bass amp
Although you're playing in the same area as the bass is, lots of ERG players tend to cut frequencies bassists are emphasising. So many people say what you're saying without having any idea what they're talking about.
You'll still need a bass player even if your guitar can go that low. A guitars pickups are very different to bass pickups. Meshuggah's guitars and bass are at the same octave but they still need a bass to thicken out the mix or it'll sound really bland (even if the bass is heavily distorted also).
Omen guitars are good, not the best of Schecter's, of course, but fine... I just dont like how the 8th string sounds on basswood, but it's ok. If you get more money you can buy a Septor from Agile, they're cool. Also, I would not recommend 30" scale, dude, it's LARGE. Too hard to solo on such guitars cause i like to move around the neck and distances are fucked up. Maybe that's just me. I decided to get a 27" left-handed 8 string septor and I'm okay with it.
Extended range seems to mean "overlaps with the bass" nowadays, but mostly, I'm surprised they haven't gone into higher registers instead. Or has this been attempted and I just wasn't paying attention?
25.5 inch scale? Is that not waaaay too short for an 8 string? Going to suffer with string tension problems unless you're using suspension bridge cables for strings.
Awesome review! Iam a pretty small dude with my 1,70m and have proportionally smaller hands. I wanted to buy an Ibanez RG8 at first, but the 27" Scalelength just seems too ... big for my hands . (Haven't played it yet but i guess it would be too much) Because of that, i thought about buying the ltd - h208... Would you say the Ibanez and Ltd are equal in terms of quality and sound?! I'd be thankful for your advice :)
I wondered if you would mention Monuments! Some of the riffs you played in the demo sounded so very close to their style. This seems to be a really nice 8-string. I might consider buying one as I've been having some trouble with my Ibanez RGA8; particularly with the bridge. The RGA8 is 27" scale though. I've grown up playing 25.5" scale all my life really, but I've gotten used to playing 8-strings in baritone. Would anyone recommend trying 25.5" for 8 strings instead?
I got this guitar, but even with the distortion preset on the amp it doesn't sound like its got enough gain. I'm using a Vox Valvetronix vt40+ and don't know whether its the amp or the guitar itself, I've attempted to get a clearer tone out of the bridge by lowering it but the guitar's lower strings aren't very good for higher gain they sound like they should be used for jazz. I'm about to buy a Dimarzio D Activator pickup for the bridge will this improve the sound of the lower notes?
@IAmKillerism ESP. Schecter, in terms of quality, will gouge you in the lower priced guitars. Those "Powerful" diamond series pickups are shit. ESP all day.

I don't understand the dislikes, this better than most other 8 string demonstrations on UA-cam and Sam Bell always knows what's up.

what a lovely gjentelmen

I actually dreamt I had an 8 string guitar this night. And I shredded off the top thick strings... had to buy new ones.

Meaty low end! I've got the LTD D-6 bass, it's cool to see their 'extreme' guitars too. The neck sure seems about as wide as mine!

The neck is thinner than a Schecter neck, not quite as thin as an ibanez wizard neck though. Very nice to play :)
this needs to be available lefty, i love my old h-207 and want the 8 to compliment it. DO IT ESP.

i have one, it alryt, just use thicker strings if you want more tension but the stock strings aren't flabby
Or get really heavy gauge strings, I have a .80 for my F#. It compensates for the short scale :)
That would be a interesting experiment.

I would buy this if it had a decent scale length and the back neckjoint wasn't MASSIVE, they should have it small like the Ibanez RGA8
Although you're playing in the same area as the bass is, lots of ERG players tend to cut frequencies bassists are emphasising. So many people say what you're saying without having any idea what they're talking about.
they're quite thin, and comfortable as fuck
With a standard scale It might be better to tune it up with a high A
:30 mark sounds like the beginning of the first solo in Tempting Time by Animals As Leaders.
i have a rg8 but this looks like a step up im down i need a black 8 anyway

How useful would this be for genres that aren't metal?
You could try some insane jazz/blues?
So, Gerty on drums?

it can handle heavy really really tight dist ?

outro music???
Or you could get a seven string bass that is the bass equivalent to the eight string guitar note\tuning wise.
my christmas present
@gioomadze Well, someone still has to stand next to the drummer....
Sh*t, how do you get that tone? Is it plugged straight into the amp? (6 min. aprox.)
I wondered if you would mention Monuments! Some of the riffs you played in the demo sounded so very close to their style.

What about Tosin Abasi?
Does it stay in tune pretty well?
So,man, what's the main differense between 338 and 208?i mean,sound...and second:both made in China?
2:19-2:24 does anyone know similar songs on that riffs?
What's the first chord you are playing?

I'd rather get this one and put 808's in it, that getting the 308 model. Bolt on, unfinished necks
Yeah that's true.
great 8 string guitar band..Animals As Leaders
1 drummer and( 2) 8 string guitar player's
cafo :)
@gioomadze we just give em 6 string basses and tell em "keep up, damn"
Even then, the strings gonna be too thick and make a hell of a buzz and intonation problems
seems very short scale
what's with playing? xD
@IAmKillerism ESP.
Schecter, in terms of quality, will gouge you in the lower priced guitars. Those "Powerful" diamond series pickups are shit. ESP all day.
So no more bass players? :D
sounds like someone's been listening to Animals As Leaders
@TheMACcar Or maybe they give talented open minded people more scope for fresh music :)
that is a tree :D
8 srings and 8 fingers on one hand :-p
how the hell do you make an 8 string 25.5 inch scale. that's ridiculous. . . needs to be 27 at least imo
Six strings is enough.
Do Nevada have a lefty in stock? Do ESP offer a lefty? I'd have one if they did
2:19-2:24 does anyone know similar songs on that riffs?
