My ranking combines story and gameplay. Some games have a great story, but suffer in the gameplay. When it comes to games that I have only watched the cutscenes of (Days, Re:Coded, UX, Dark Road), I'm basing it off of what I have seen of other people's gameplay and how much I think I would enjoy playing them myself. We have a very similar ranking, with just a few small differences. The main differences are our rankings of MoM and KH3. Although I suck at rhythm games, I enjoy them quite a bit, and I really liked playing to the music in the series. As for KH3, I like the story, but structurally, it was very unbalanced, and there were too many beat for beat recreations of Disney scenes. It made it feel like Sora was a visitor in his own game. S - KH2, KH1 A - BBS, Days B - DDD, Re:CoM, FP 0.2, Re:Mind, KH3, MoM C - Back Cover, UX, DR D - Re: Coded
DDD should be in F.That game (F)ucked up the plot so hard that it basically butchered KH3 before it was even a thing. Also, the game retroactivly made Nobodies an effing joke and made the story over convoluted for no reason.Definitly one of the worst game ever made
@@leonerd1763 it's because DDD is around when KH Series Director Nomura started being most in charge of the plot himself. The original trilogy KH1, Chain of Memories, & KH2 Nomura isn't credited as Writer at all. But ever since Days and BBS he became more involved with the series story creation. And come the DDD era he and maybe 1 other scenario writer Oka had the whole future of the series plot points planned out already hence DDD's time travel destiny stuff lol~
I'm positively surprised by how well days did in your tier list, even if just by the story! It's not a perfect game, so actually playing it might be a bit tiring at times but the story gets WAY more invested when you actually experience things. I'm happy with that lol I hope we get a Days remake one day(unlikely, sadly)
Rhythm games are a pretty popular genre. Alot of games have them, including FF which had new massive one last year. It's not for everyone, but it has more money then any other rhythm game on market. It was also done for Yoko Shimomura. She was waiting for a game like that, and they made a game just about her music. Also all Final Mix versions of 1, 2 and BBS are all DLC. The difference between remind and those is for years you had to wait for them to come over to the rest of the world, and you needed to buy the base game again. All the stuff like the Roxas fight, or Xemnas fight in 1, wasn't in original versions. One thing that sucks is they removed the OG title screens for 1 and 2, and while the new art is good, the old one is more consistent with 3s main menu art.
MoM is probably my least favorite KH game, but it's saved by Yoko's music. At the very least, I enjoyed my time with it, which is more than can be said for most games that I consider the worst of their series.
A lot of people just really don’t understand recoed because they don’t play it 🤦🏾 and I think when he says “story “ his talking about overall relevancy to the whole plot of kh but it’s more to than for a “story” people really need to analyze kingdom hearts from different perspectives
For someone just experiencing the KH series i am actually pretty happy about this. re:coded is only one i am kinda meh about , since you are right about it but also wrong , i am playing it right now myself cause i only watched the cutscenes before. that being said it is replaying KH1 story for the context of something extra from the point of view of recovering what was lost at the end of KH Re:COM and other things that are hidden at that point to the cast. There are new things there that are necesary but could be told diffrently , BUT THIS IS MY OPINION :D on that beat , The list is good.
Bit of feedback: when referring to the games, use the word “this” less and the actual name of the game more. Sometimes I like to just listen to UA-cam while I’m preparing food or washing dishes and I often don’t know what you’re referring to. Otherwise, fun list!
That's really interesting. I knew that KH3 was probably the first game for a lot of people given the huge marketing push it received. I'm curious; were confused at all during it?
Melody of Memory is by far my most played KH game (not my favorite, all three of the mainline titles go before it but its in 4th right in front of BBS). Rhythm games are a bit of a niche genre but if you find them fun you can NOT put them down. MoM is such a fun game to play imo so its sad to see it at the absolute bottom :
Even from people who like Re:Coded, they'll admit that the story is it's weakest point. And for KH3, the speculation was going CRAZY in the 6 years between announcement and release. A lot of people had their own expectations for the game that KH3 didn't end up meeting. I noticed my expectations getting wild tho, so I was sure to temper them and I LOVED KH3. For me, i'd probably rate the games like this. And I have played all of them, including x, Unchained x, Union x, and Dark Road. So i'll be judging based on gameplay and story. S: KH2, KH3 (Re:Mind), KH3, KH1 A: 358/2 Days, BBS, 0.2 BBS B: Re:CoM, DDD C: Union x, Dark Road D: Re:Coded, MoM Re:Mind and KH2 tend to occupy the same space. It is honestly really hard for me to pick between them.
the GBA chain of memory to me is just more enjoyable than the remake . Probably unpopular opinion but KH in pixels look very good and it aged so well. And the maps felt better than the remake . The remake felt cheap . The GBA feels like it’s using full power of the console .
Should i get into the series? The reason i havent is bc people say the story is confusing and complex I bought the all in one collection but im not convinced yet Can anyone help?
I would definitely get into the series it’s great but i was the same because I didn’t know which games to play in what order. I would say play number 1 then see how you like it.
@@StringoYTcheers Stringo, i started yesterday and aside from the clunky mod 2000s controls im enjoying it. I’ll check out your videos as i progress through the games.
@@guilhermejrmarin Yeah if you already have the collection, playing in release order is the easiest & best way to experience them. Also KH2 released after Chain of Memories and before "358/2 Days" originally, but maybe if you don't have patience for Chain of Memories' card battle system, there's all cutscene movies of it on youtube before going straight to KH2 with the most fun combat in the series in many fans' opinions :D
S: KH2FM, ReMind A: KH1FM, BBS B: 0.2, DDD C: ReCoM, Days, KH3og D: MoM F: Dark Road (worst grindy gameplay design in history which is a shame considering how epic the story of Xehanort is); My rankings are primarily for gameplay/replayworthiness and much less ranked for story. I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fan, but i still haven't played Re mind, because i hated Square so much for not properly finishing KH3 and then putting it into a 30 euro dlc, which is why i also hated KH3 (it was also too easy). Seeing someone who hasn't been waiting this long put it in S makes me looking forward to playing it now that i have bought it at a discount haha
Yeah the kh3 DLC's "ReMind" story finale episode should've been made available as freeDLC to anyone who owned kh3 og and then the kh3 DLC's "LimitCut" episode could've been the only one charged for had they added more main game features. Thankfully PC gamers with good enough hardware can get kh3+theDLC as a full game these days and install MODs by fans adding stuff fans always wished for in kh3 too like coliseum, play as Riku/Aqua/Roxas/everyone in full kh3 storymode etc. If modders could create what fans always wished for in kh3, Square should've just done what all the top kh3 modders did and put that into their official DLC if they wanna charge 30 for it but then still give kh3 original owners the real finale episode freeDLC
Re Mind is better than the original kh3 ending for sure even if it's not perfect, though it's still an improvement and the best fans will get until kh4 hopefully. In terms of gameplay, the true value of kh3's DLC is the LimitCut DLC episode superbosses for any kh players who enjoyed the most challenging battles of the previous kh games like kh2fm data battles, 0.2 secret boss, etc.
I agree original kh3 felt too easy even on Proud. But when Square rolled out kh3's criticalmode freeupdate a few months later it became the hardest criticalmode in the series lol. So I wish they had offered a feature to "drop down" a difficulty level in case it's too hard but without letting players jump up to higher difficulties after starting new game. Since it would be great to start newgame on Critical, but then drop to Proud or Standard at LimitCut when bosses are the hardest in kh history!
First game and I already disagree. I know it’s a common opinion to like the game but BBS just isn’t a good game. I don’t like the story and I genuinely think the gameplay is the worst in the series.. yes, even worse than Re:CoM.
